Just out of interest, which Beefheart albums have you heard? There is alot more to him than his work on Bongo Fury.

The Captain's music is definitely an acquired taste. First time I heard "Trout Mask Replica" I thought he was a total crackpot and all the music on
the album was just made up on the spot while they were recording. Of course after listening to that album a couple of times I realized that virtually
everything was actually carefully written out in advance and rehearsed to death, and I've grown to like his music a lot. I can see why it's not for
everyone, though...
Regardless of what you may think of his music, it's not true that he would have been a nobody if it weren't for Zappa. He actually had a couple of
albums out on major labels a few years before his appearance on "Hot Rats" and he was already some sort of cult figure in the UK and Europe, thanks to
John Peel.

That was the first Zappa album I bought on my own when it came out so it's special to me. Terry really does a great job with the subtle hi hat work
on some of those blues based numbers. i learned a lot listening to that album about making my hi hat sizzle by leaving it part way open.
