yeah I remember them. My sister has a shirt with To Drunk To Fuck on it (which caused a lot of hilarity wherever she went).

aquagoat - 4-4-2006 at 08:07

Black flag was OK too, in my opinion, so are the Misfits and Poison idea and many other actually. Minor threat, bad brains.....:guitar2:

"Nazi Punks Fuck Off" and "Holiday In Cambodia" were my only two DK's albums and were yet another example of those mysteriously disappearing things that were never found again after one of my parties.

--Batchain:rolleyes:

I know that feeling Bat. My copy of NWA Straight Outta Compton was nicked from my last party. That was years ago though, and I have since learnt not to have house parties cos its not worth the hassle most the time..!!

zazkia - 9-4-2006 at 00:09

hmmmmm
I used to think that DK was the only American punk band, I was a big fan... until I started to get annoyed by jello's voice. and then later I got annoyed by his opinions. And even later that Slayer album came out, covering better American punk/core bands... uhmm who was on it... i think errrr we're just.. a Minor Threat .... and DSJIWPDIJOEIJJNVSDBAME or something and Verbal Abuse so that I came to revise my DK ideas from the very basis it was founded on.
Cool artwork though...
I have the TDTF tshirt. One day when I'm fired I plan to wear it at work! (Now first thing to do is get a job :bouncy: )

The Butthole Surfers were a fine american punk band, so too the meat puppets. black flag was fun in their day too.

But I am ashamed that no one has mentioned the obvious, the kings of american punk (Iggy and the stooges are the gods . . .):

beat on the brat
beat on the brat
beat on the brat with a baseball bat
oh yeah . . .

punknaynowned - 3-9-2006 at 12:01

and patti smith is a goddess. never pass up a chance to grab a cup of tea and talk politics and mythology with her . . .:bouncing:

Well this thread has named just about all the better punk bands out of the states...My fav would be the DK's.

As for Iggy-he needs his own thread. Not punk however, never was never will be. Just pure Rock and Roll.

I liked the first couple of Butthole surfer albums.

And.....ZOOGZ RIFFT.....check him out.

Yeah. I have extremely mixed feelings about the Ramones. I think they were simultaneously one of the world's great bands and the world's worst band.

In other words: They were the best of bands, they were the worst of bands. They wrote songs of gold, they wrote songs of shit.

I don't have any mixed feelings about people who wear Ramones t-shirts. Lame. Especially young people. Ramones shirts and Che Guevara shirts have lost all meaning.

scallopino - 8-4-2008 at 12:43

Their music is sometimes unbelievably brilliant and then unbelievably stupid, like the start of 'Rock n Roll Radio' for example. God that's a stupid introduction.

Badchild - 8-4-2008 at 15:53

Oh yeah! forgot about the Ramones....Nice Clean American Style Punk.....No danger involved in them....the Bsurfers or Black flag however are another story.

Anyone know Die Toten Rosen ?? Now there's a fucking good Punk Band! Still around too!

LaMarrBruister - 18-7-2008 at 18:50

Dead Kennedy's the only decent American Punk band? That's worth a laugh.

When speaking of American Punk, one must mention the godfathers of Punk:
Iggy & The Stooges,MC5,The New York Dolls, and The Ramones.

Also,bands like Richard Hell & The Voidoids,Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers,Fear,Black Flag,Misfits,Minutemen,and the Cramps...just to name a few.

There's also no denying the countless 1960's American Garage bands that had a huge influnence on the Punk genre.

BBP - 19-7-2008 at 09:05

Complaining at Vivien is little use. He hasn't been here in ages.

Jakeobs - 19-7-2008 at 18:50

Fugazi gets my vote (though I guess it's debatable as to whether or not they're actually a punk band).

Isaac - 7-10-2008 at 00:13

I like a lot of different bands in different genres, but the two punk bands that I enjoy a lot are Bad Brains and Hed PE.

New York Dolls

BBP - 7-10-2008 at 15:15

Never been a punk fan. I like Nina Hagen though. She's a great singer.

Huck_Phlem - 19-10-2008 at 05:15

Jello lives in my hometown now.

scallopino - 20-10-2008 at 03:28

What town is that?

Huck_Phlem - 22-10-2008 at 04:55

Martinez California. I don't live there anymore but not too far away.

MTF - 22-10-2008 at 08:17

Jello ran for Mayor of San Francisco once. As I recall he came in fourth out of about twelve.

Anyone remember The Nuns? Leila and The Snakes? Psycotic Pineapple?

Didn't think so...

BBP - 22-10-2008 at 12:59

Who?

Huck_Phlem - 2-11-2008 at 21:51

Yea I remember them! Do you remember the Humans? I saw them in Santa Cruz. Real good band.

feetlightup - 7-11-2008 at 22:02

Been a punk rock fan for many many years. Although I haven't really picked up any new bands since college - it really is a generational thing to me, and I just can't relate to today's punks. I still smile when I see a kid with a Misfits logo on their jacket though. Some things never get old.
