PackardGoose.com Forums

Uh oh...

BBP - 24-3-2006 at 19:40

Anyone else having trouble opening the Zappa.com forum? When I try to load the page, the server says it can't be found. This is worrying...

aquagoat - 24-3-2006 at 19:44

Doesn't work for me, it didn't work this morning either.

Puptent - 24-3-2006 at 19:46

Here neither. Two days ago, an administrator (gee, didn't even know they still had one) posted on the boards that they were going to upgrade the entire site soon and migrate to new message board software. That might be the reason, or it's just some technical error, I guess

BBP - 24-3-2006 at 21:51

Whoa, I missed that... That could be the reason. When the forum crashed last summer I got loads of codes rather than a page not found message.

scallopino - 25-3-2006 at 10:38

Same for me yesterday, but normal today.

aquagoat - 25-3-2006 at 10:45

Yes it works well now.

BBP - 31-3-2006 at 21:51

Wanted to log in just then... got a "we're doing forum maintenance" page.

PS Scallopino: your shoe-lace is untied.

aquagoat - 1-4-2006 at 18:53

Still doesn't work.

polydigm - 2-4-2006 at 00:02

I noticed the zappa forum was in maintenance mode Saturday morning in OZ time. It's now Sunday morning and it's still unavailable. I came here thinking I would find lots of zappa forum addicts compensating, but I was wrong.

;)

Yes, troubles here. My original password was deleted and the one supplied by "Packardgoos" sent to me in email worked only once. To add further mystery, when the new password failed I tried the old one and it worked.
Very strange!

I think the cause lies in the upgrading of the forum and the back up on data we had to install. Anyhow welcome here.

As I've already said, I've been reading about the progress of this forum for some time now and I'd already considered visiting. This weekend's down time was just a catalyst.

Deepening Mystery

Thanks for the welcome! Yes, this gets even stranger: I can never tell when the Packardgoose site is just going to let me right in and when it's going to require a "password" which means it probably won't take *anything* I give it - but not always!
Hrmm...I've been set to wondering, "Oh, I *do* wonder what ideas scallopino has cookin' in his head?":rsvd:

Thanks for the welcome, DED! The teduim of constructing a web site is a horror show to me and really oddball things still happen no matter what. (One example: I'm here!) But technical fuck ups are inevitable.

I don't know about that - there were many posters, not just Isaac, and when doing a last 200 posts, you could bet there'd be arses, tits and all, shoved in the air, quoted and re-quoted so several had to be scrolled through. There were a few threads I had to skip altogether in order to miss them - random photos, AAAFNRAA or whatever it's called and the pointless and insulting Don't look at this thread. I asked nicely if they could be put behind a link but that seemed to generate a spate of pics as I knew it would but I couldn't help asking - it was a last hope for staying on the forum and such a small thing to ask.

I just can't understand why people have to post these - why not just surf for your own to look at and not display them for people annoyed or upset by them to see.

I live in hope that one day someone will be dismayed to see one posted for all to see and it will will be their daughter, missus or mum - it wouldn't be so funny then would it.

I can't believe that many girls are happy with this coarse behaviour, they just don't want to make a stand and be unpopular.

I'm not a prude - I'm a Zappa fan - I just don't like being reduced to decoration which is what these pictures do to ALL women, not just those sluts prepared to open their legs for complete strangers to wank over.

Well, I suppose I'll have to stop coming here now as well as that'll be the cue for a deluge of smut.

[Edited on 3-4-2006 by floss]

Puptent - 3-4-2006 at 17:02

The naked women personally don't offend me at all, but it is an annoyance when browsing the Zappa forum at work. I only use the 'show last posts' option at home because of that.

I guess it's one of the downsides of having an unmoderated forum, just like the incessant feuding between some site members has also ruined many interesting threads.

DED - 3-4-2006 at 17:13

There are so many sites with free porn today, it is totally beep to post them in a zappa forum. But I think the forum is hacked or something. They tried to do it here, That's why we do not send you a welcome email or a thanks email when you write in the guestbook. Members who try to blow up the forum are deleted or banned. We check every day the last postings. We are Dutch and used to a lot of things, but there is a place and a time for everything and this happens to be a Frank Zappa Fan Site and that's what it is.

Altough we not must forget that the modern world is influenced a lot by the porn industry. Philips invented the video 2000 system but did not bring out any porn. The reason that VHS became world standard is hat they did. There is a lot of money in this industry and they are willing to spend it on innovation. In their struggle for customers they try almost everything and a lot of it is not appreciated.
Think of spam mail and think of teletext services of commercial stations in Holland if you asked for the index page you always read something like "willing wives page 489" 24 hours a day 7 days in a week. To avoid that people with page memory zapping around the service they degreased the speed of the service, so it take some time to load. The enormous amount of it last years has made me immune to it.
But this forum stays clean as long as Bonny wants to.

Well, I've never understood how people find themselves personally reduced to anything in any way by something they themselves perceive by some metaphorical means -- it's just simply not a reality. If you somehow feel debased by what you call "smut" then you've got over 100,000 years of it hanging around in every culture that has ever existed. I'm sorry to hear that you react that way, you've never given voice to that sentiment in the Zappa-dot-com forum so I'm surprized to hear it from you here and now.
I'm only going to caution you not to make any generalization on behalf of others in which you conclude that they must be silently enduring some hardship in order not to be "unpopular" with no other possible explanation other than your own. That would be grossly unfair and would have to be verified on a per-person basis and not based solely on your projection of some given universal that all in any alleged class must, by definition, share your personal sentiment.
Your only other option would be to take that up directly with an administrator and ask if they would agree with you on the creation of some forum restriction you might wish to propose. Anything else would be absurd.
I'm sorry to see you leave based on the principles you just stated but you have to do what you are most comfortable with and use your own judgment.

Well, the Official Zappa Forum is definitely back with lot's of teething problems. But it had to change, the software was pretty archaic compared to what is now available. I think the admin there are to be congratulated that they are trying to recover as much of the old stuff as possible. They were between a rock and a hard place, they couldn't just keep on using the old system, that would probably eventually lead to another major crash which would be much worse than what's happening now. The main thing is that the lines of communication are open again and I'm looking forward to the wrinkles eventually being ironed out.

Anyway, I still intend to keep visiting this place, it's been a pleasant alternative so far.

Well, fantastic! At least it didn't just shit the bed after misleading everyone into believing it was coming back when it wasn't. (That was just my cynical worry.)

I believe I HAVE voiced an opinion on my sadness at the way some forumers at Zappa.com think it's fine to treat or talk about their own partners or other women. I always got put down, as expected, as some sort of killjoy. I don't really care about that. I just think that if I wanted to see porn then I would buy it or surf for it myself - rather than being insulted and angry each time I see it staring me in the face at the village shop or the local newsagent or when I scroll through recent posts on a forum. OK, maybe I am in the minority - I wouldn't know - but I did say in my post that I couldn't believe that women found it acceptable and that they must just not complain as it would make them unpopular. I truly believe that. I have grown up in the UK with naked women on page 3 of the newspapers every day and even when I was younger I thought it was horrible. The women were commented on, torn apart or drooled over, depending on the viewers, and the pictures and their accompanying text, to me, always made the women out to be ever-ready and up for anything. I have been assaulted in the street in broad daylight by a neighbour acquaintance who completely out of the blue squeezed one of my breasts in the high street, a group of 3 teenagers set about groping up my skirt one afternoon on my way home from work. Even a "friend" of my parents thought it was funny to pull down a top I was wearing at a party at my parents' home and expose my breasts to several other guests. I put these horrible encounters down to the fact that women are so often portrayed as playthings and many men cannot separate those on show from those who prefer to share their bodies only with those of their own choosing. These encounters all took place in the 70s, before the internet which brought a deluge of porn to the mailbox, and the current "lads mags" (not considered porn, and regularly advertised on TV) showing naked women pressing their bodies together and pretending to be lesbians on the front covers. Before magazines advertised sex chatlines and a choice of naked women wallpapers for your mobile (cell) phones. Before satellite TV brought commercial breaks showing not much other than naked women on channels not at all associated with sex programming. It's everywhere. One newspaper in the UK now seems to specialise in pointing cameras up girls' skirts in an attempt to get near-gynaecological pictures on its FRONT PAGE and commenting on their current stage (or not) of hair removal! Several of them have naked women on the front cover as a matter of course - there's a war on (or a peace being worked on if you listen to our governments) and their front pages consist of naked women in provocative poses! Maybe you don't get that in the US but I am heartily sick of it, all spread out over the counter at the station kiost where kids are buying comics and sweets on their way to school. I just think that once upon a time porn was something that people looked at at home or in a cinema with other like-minded people and porn stars were never confused with other women. Now it's got so mainstream that business deals are conducted in lap-dancing clubs and it's tough if the businesswomen don't like it - they have no choice.

That's my experience in the UK. A sea of sleaze. Drunken people having sex with strangers in the street, sex meaning so little to them these days. I may be wrong but I put it all down to those 1970s beginnings, when it became acceptable to put naked women in the newspapers purely for decoration.

People are quick enough to denounce paedophiles but to me a waxed and siliconed woman looks like a child with tits. It's acceptable, indeed fashionable, to show off your bra but apparently UNacceptable to show any line UNDER your clothing which indicates that you are wearing knickers! It's OK for the ACTUAL underwear to be showing above the skirt or trousers though! So, fashion dictates that your pubic area looks like a child's, you look like you're not wearing knickers even if you are and you push up your tits (or more likely artificially inflate them) so all in all you look like something out of a "lads' mag". That's exactly how you will get treated. Unfortunately, so will the rest of us. (Note: I don't mean YOU in that sentence.)

We had the discussion on smoking and although smokers rightly think that they should be able to do what they like with their own life, it has been established that it affects others' lives too and those other people have a right to clean air and the smokers should keep the smoke to themselves. I think the same about the pictures. If people want to look at them, and people want to make money by displaying their bodies instead of working for a living, just don't display it in my face. No-one's telling them to stop doing it - just stop foisting it on people who didn't ask for it. That's all. I don't expect any forum to change its rules - I just left when I'd had more than enough. I may dip in again from time to time. You may be comfortable with it but it seriously makes me feel like a worthless piece of shit and that I can do without on a daily basis. We are all different and will have different reactions, but people NOT annoyed or upset will have no reason to complain and those that ARE annoyed or upset usually don't either as they get put down. Everything just gets coarser and coarser.

That aside, poo pictures, arsehole avatar (too revolting for words), Trendy - all totally avoidable if I don't go there (as long as they don't come here.) I live in hope. :umm:

DED - 4-4-2006 at 14:13

A lot of people need a whole lot of words to express themselves. With the posting of a picture of any kind you say more then all these words in a instant. Remembering the time that I was temp. teamleader in crisis team of data typists. (All female). The things that are discussed openly then were things I really didn't believe it was on he mind of woman.
The above posting is, and that's my pinion strictly personal and not representing a gender. As a guy I can enjoy the beauty of a fine shaped female. But I know that it takes more than 2 days, over 1600 pictures and a staff of 20 people to get the centerpage of Playboy. Mostly ot a girl anymore, just a living robot. And I understand that it is hard working.

Are you upset? Possibly you were far too much an etherial entity to have been cursed by being born in a thing so crude, grotesque and vile as a human body. Well, you do live in hope -- however many times you've suffered the tortures of experiencing the unwashed vulgar masses dashing it.
Commendably, you've braved it, and, even exposed yourself to its excesses of your own accord, while being made to feel even so much more like a lowly turd!

Yep... Of course you could ask the admin to change your name, which I might be doing. Plus I'll have to make a new avatar.

I never said the human body was crude, grotesque and vile - your words - I just don't like the display of it in a sexually provocative manner to people who have not sought it out.

I personally find it inexplicable why women are happy to be displayed in that manner and I don't want it thrust in my face. I don't see anything wrong with that sentiment. I'm sorry my long-winded post caused you to became sarcastic - I was only trying to get the reasons for my feelings on the subject fully explained in one go so you could hopefully understand it from another's point of view. I believe this would be the honest view of the majority of women but they don't make it known. That's just my opinion and you are, of course, welcome to disagree. Maybe EVERY woman on the planet except me - yes even Barbara Bush - is just dying to get their kit off and shove their arse in the air for your entertainment. Now you've made me go all sarcastic!

DED said about a centrefold picture that it ceased to be a girl - and to that I say ... PRECISELY! It's reduced to an object.

I don't want to go on arguing about it - maybe no-one DOES agree with me but if they do, I'd rather someone who stood up and said I don't like it than one who just put up with it rather than complain.

I refuse to take seriously anyone who is drawn to something they only find "offensive" and continuously repeat the same blather and empty cant because I've seen and heard this irrational behavior too much and too often to be serious about it. It is never any different wherever and whenever it shows up and only grows more tiresomely obnoxious the longer it is repeated.
In my last post was I was intentionally ironic and mocking and I can't believe that there were many imbecilic enough to have missed that fact -- possibly you were or simply feigned that you were.
Typically it is as simple as it is predictable: Someone is immensely pissed off, offended and enraged -- but the only thing truly unbearable to them is not to be pissed off, offended and enraged.
You've more than amply demonstrated that you dovetail neatly with that description. The fun is in the ride not in reaching the destination.

What do you do when you listen to one of Frank's records and there are songs about sex, floss ? Do you call Gail or Ryko discs to ask them to hide these songs behind a link ?

Now here's my solution: if you don't want to see these pictures of naked women/men, don't watch those threads, it's as simple as that. I'm tired of sterile pseudo political debates where everybody insults one another,so I don't read them anymore, I don't ask them to stop talking about politics, why don't you do the same with the sex threads ?

And please, don't tell me the Zappa forum is overflowing with porn, cause that would be a lie. Right now there are perhaps 4 or 5 posts about that out of a total of 212747 articles. Censoring those threads is like cutting out parts of the lyrics of "Let's make the water turn black" or "Bobby brown goes down". It would be in total contradiction to the spirit of Zappa's work and fight for freedom of speech, but who gives a fuck, apparently not you.

--Aquabot

Yes - very funny Aquabot - but Dweezil wasn't shoving an erection in anyone's face was he? Was he even showing anything that wouldn't be seen walking down a street in the summer? That's not the same thing and you know it! When was the last time YOU saw a naked man with an erection on a magazine or newspaper cover in a local village shop? I've never seen one on the Zappa forum. Actually I've NEVER seen one OTHER than a partner's in all my 49 years! Did they act out the scene in Dirty Harry when a man with an erection chased a girl down the street "with intent to rape"? No, because it wouldn't have been allowed. It's not the same and YOU know it.

--Aquabot

A song or the written word is not the same. It unfolds over several minutes, or in a book over many hours' reading. If you don't like what you're hearing or reading you don't have to carry on. The picture is instant. You can't just see SOME of it. And, as I said, I DID avoid certain threads but they could NOT be avoided when scrolling through last posts when sometimes the same picture would be repeated several times as no-one's comment on the original was complete without a re-run of the picture! I have no problem at all with FZ lyrics. I tend to prefer instrumentals (and not ONLY FZ's) but that is nothing to do with the sex content of SOME of the songs. That's to do with the fact that instrumentals don't date. After you've heard the lyrics thousands of times they're not NEW anymore. You know the story or the politicians have come and gone already. It's a very rare person who watches the same MOVIE thousands of times over. (Faye Dunaway looks, frankly, ridiculous in The Thomas Crown Affair.) It doesn't work like that with the instrumentals. I can't explain why it's different but it is. Of course I still listen to ALL the songs as the music is all good but the lyrical content is, after thousands of listens, not fresh and exciting and the music somehow still IS.

Dear Floss,
Being a lady, I, too, can feel slight distress upon seeing certain pornographic images. However, I decided to allow such pictures on this forum. Some people seem to need 'em.
I think it is desirable that if you want to use such pictures, please announce it clearly, so that people at work and the prudish people can dodge them and prevent any harm they may cause. So don't use them as your avatar.

Methinks I need to update the rules...

You know, I wouldn't mind if you didn't want sex pictures to be posted here Bonny, cause it's your site, but the official Zappa site cannot promote any form of censorship since as I've already said, it would be contrary to the state of mind of the man who wrote "The MOI anti-smut loyalty oath" or the sticker on "The mothers of prevention" and so many songs about sex acts "worse" than a few pictures of naked people.

[Edited on 7-4-2006 by aquabot]

floss - 7-4-2006 at 09:34

I'd just like to make it clear that I didn't ASK that the porn be banned from Bonny's or the Zappa forum. I only made a request in a separate thread on the Zappa forum that the pics be put behind a link.

I think it's sad that people find it necessary to share these pics on an open forum, where some of your kids might also see them, rather than just keep their porn surfing to themselves, but I never asked for it to be banned - just not displayed without an extra click of the mouse. I simply said I came here because I was fed up with it on the Zappa site. Other people made an argument out of it.

Now that the Zappa forum has turned to shite I expect a lot more people will sign up here and it will eventually go the same way.

Everything else re pictures -v- words I've already said and am not about to repeat.

Bonny I'm really happy for you - your site will no doubt be a great success.

DED - 7-4-2006 at 10:38

I'm not a moderator, only the father of Bonny and I can say I was really shocked when I saw the American response on the Jackson girl act in the footballstadium. Woman MUST realise that their lifes are very positively developed in the last 35 years. We have an ecyclopedia for housewives (dated somewhere in the fifties) here, and I know for sure that you are very glad that you do not live in those years.
The sexual revolution has obtained a lot of goodness you must not forget. Life of a woman today is so much better then before and that is not only obtained by women only, men deserves a lot of credits in it.
The thing however we must realise that, although most pictures are made with full approval of female models, still pictures are made with females that are illegally in a country and they are forced to pose in extreme situations like sex with animals. We also must not forget that the economical situation in some countries are so worse that the only way to survive is to explore your young children in the sexindustry. If you are willing to tell that to your children, instead of keeping their eyes shut in some occassions than we may be able to end all the misery around this theme.

Agreed, aquabot. Bonny's site is a totally separate entity and she's well within her rights to run it as she sees fit, with or without restrictions. "floss" has every right to ask that something be changed and restrictions imposed at either site and hope she can get what she wants. Fine!
The absurdity was that she was offended that I didn't accord her views the same validity that I did my own. Of course not! If I regarded them to be of equal value I wouldn't believe my own beliefs which would be logically self-negating and I couldn't possibly have any to begin with!

I agree with some of that. I was exposed to porn when I was five (I found 1 of my dad's books one day) and I'm pretty normal except for the  and the :freak:.I watched that several time and one day I got caught by my mother. The thing is that my parents didn't make a big deal of that and explained what it was to me, then I went back to my playmobils. It didn't turn me into a pervert and it didn't make me consider women as whores or objects.

I didn't ask for restrictions to be imposed. I did say, Have a heart guys - couldn't you post the naked pics behind a link? That's not the same.

I was not offended that you didn't accord my views the same validity that you did your own. You did not, however, give them ANY VALIDITY AT ALL! You refused to take me seriously - which seems to me that you thought I must be joking. What that is is dismissive, rude and arrogant.

To aquabot: perhaps you were lucky being caught and talked to about it. Other kids might be upset, especially girls, to find something like that and might be adversely affected by it. My schoolfriend and I found a whole cupboard full of mags in her house we presumed belonged to her father, and I was always creeped out by him after that and scared when he used to take me home in his car after I visited. I never told a soul.

The forum is worldwide. What offends in some countries doesn't, for instance, in the Netherlands. How some people choose to educate children is not how others do. Therefore people grow up with different exposures to, and also different attitudes to porn and its display. All I can say is Vive la difference.

Globalisation flattens the differences quickly. The internet is the main motor in globalisation. This forum is on the internet and dedicated to a musician. That is what us brings us together and in the same time you have a broad vision on different cultures. The actions on television of Phil Bloom and the response on it has simularities with the American performance of .... Jackson and the response to that. Again a replay of history with a 30 years in between, probably with the same effects as here in the Netherlands.

It was because I saw the void between our viewpoints, floss, that made it clear that mine stood in sharp contrast to your own. I never said I didn't take you seriously or say you had to be making a joke, I only represented my own ideas as I saw fit to express them.
But is it somehow necessary, as you see it, to put an apologetic footnote below whatever I say to ask you to take no offense and to cushion the edges of what I say in order to avoid being, "dismissive, rude and arrogant"? If so, then you must be in a world of pain given how you unlikely you are ever to have found anything like that anywhere.

I was OK, that lasted awhile, then I was not OK again but now I seem to be OK once more again!

Well, that makes my sisters, brother, cousin, niece, neighbor lady and a few others getting better, relapsing, getting better, blah, blah blah -- the same pattern with everyone. 99% clear of it now and I was the least sick from it of everyone!

DED, let's say it's 3:00 PM (1500 hrs.) Nederland that would be 10:00 AM (10:00 hrs.) New York time so we're -6 hours (Eastern Standard) time Netherlands time. (Boston, too.) So America is, according to the 4 time zones, minus 6 hours, 7 hours, 8 hours, 9 hours Netherlands time and your evening comes before ours so 6:00 PM here would be 12:00 Midnight Netherlands time.
I sure don't know why you got no response from that electronics business that claimed to have that hard-to-find vacuum tube. It sounds ridiculous that they would ignore a foreign request if they wanted to stay in business. That sure beats me!

It's not the radio shop this time but
Godaddy. Don't know where they are but I can see on the time stamps when I upload that there is a time difference.
Every restarting or working at the immense serverparc needs to be done sometime. Since it is America's biggest registrar I accept that when they work they choose the best time when they cause as less trouble as possible.
LAst month during the day my webmail was out of order and now was the site unavailable for some hours.
I fully accept that no problem. In the worst case bonny could have uploaded her picture to the wedoconsultancy domain. Because our domains are split in two one on a unix machine (Ploeg.ws) and the other (wedoconsultancy/3xploeg) on a windowsmachine.

woops!

BBP - 28-2-2008 at 17:27

Isaac: two top internet tips for you and anyone else:
-If you don't like it, walk away. Don't feed it and make yourself more frustrated.

-Don't take anything seriously, whether offences or proposals, or anything inbetween. Remember it's too easy to call somebody a name when you've never seen him, will never see him or deal with it in the future.

punnaynowned - 29-2-2008 at 23:30

Hey all!
firstly I commend our hostess for workin hard to smooth the waters!:-*
2ndly, nearly everyone has tried reasoning with Isaac (there are exceptions as always) and Isaac himself has demonstrated how impossible it is to stamp out what he doesn't want to see (whatever that happens to be).
But in flaming on everyone calling them every name in the book as they point out the things that HE does to annoy, he has managed to piss everybody off.
Now I don't think Isaac should be banned IF (and it's a mighty big 'if' in this case), Isacc admitted what he was doing (pissing everybody off) is his own bad behavior. He has not done that. When he says that he has apologised, he hasn't in fact, done that at all. He apologises on behalf of the forum (he's not MY representative) for the problems anyone has had that he just as quickly denies being a party to. In other words, he makes it impossible for anyone to say anything without him starting in with his flames, everyone walks on eggshells -- to be nice to him -- and he continues to rant and stomp and scream saying no -one understands him and goes on the attack on people who would like to be nice to him.
Impossible.

I agree 100% with your quote on tolerance Bonny. But tolerance also means curbing one's own behavior so as not to be offensive to others -- as you are such a fantastic example of B! (Well, except for the bible burning, but that's no on the forum and there is not likely to be many there who find that offensive).
Isaac doesn't get this at all, in fact, he thinks he should be able to control others' behavior or posts that he doesn't agree with. and then ridicule (he wishes) those who point this out to him.

So should intolerance be tolerated?

much love and sweetness sent yer way

I apologized for trying to lower myself to the level of the trolls and I apologized myself for trying to lower myself to Slime's level of bumpage. And then I apologized again. I've apologized three times now.

BBP - 5-3-2008 at 19:00

You've "apologized" for other people's behaviour, which is offensive (unless you're apologizing for something your kids do, but that's a matter of responsibility). You've gotten things way out of hand. You can stop it by stopping yourself. Let them talk, don't get angry in return, you're only feeding it.
By doing this, you also make new things to apologize for.

I've told you that a lot of times before, and I'm now very tired of repeating this over and over. That's why I'm off the Zappa forum, at least until things clear up. I got college to attend to, not a bunch of squibbling boys.

polydigm - 6-3-2008 at 00:16

I came here to get away from Isaac - oh well. Isaac keeps claiming that he has significant support on zappa.com, but even though not everyone thinks he should be banned, what he will not be able to do is find a single member on zappa.com who thinks he hasn't brought this on himself. No one there thinks his behaviour in the last 12 days is acceptable and no one has said they think it's acceptable. He's in total denial. He has made over a thousand posts in the space of about 12 days. No matter what the reasons for any of those posts individually, it's inappropriate behaviour for a forum. He has selfishly stamped his presence all over the place. None of this is slander, it's the plain facts and he has dug such a deep hole for himself he doesn't seem to know how to climb out.

No one is going to really forgive him unless he apologises without reference to anyone else and stops crowding the forum with too large a volume of posts. It's that simple.

BBP - 6-3-2008 at 10:29

Yeah... At times like this, it's good to take a breather.

I apologized for the bumps.

The rest of the posts were valid contributions to the threads they were posted in.

I don't understand why I am being treated as the sole reason of the problem, as if the trolling and attacks didn't exist. There's no justification for starting 14-16 threads devoted to getting me banned. And saying that me posting at all is inappropriate behavior for a forum is totally ridiculous.

I'm not the entirety of the problem, as some posters have implied. As long as I don't reply to the trolling, I'm not a part of the problem. I apologized for my actions, and there is no reason for anyone to be angry at me.

I'm not angry with you I'm sick of you. Valid contributions or not your foot prints are all over the zappa forum at the moment. Have you never heard the old saying about familiarity breeding contempt? You've been posting around 80 posts per day every day for the last week which is overdoing it at the best of times, because it imprints yourself all over the forum but to do it after pissing everyone off last weekend rather than lying low to let it blow over is just insensitive. I'm sorry if you don't understand why that is, but it's just basic social skills.

BBP - 6-3-2008 at 18:26

Guys, guys! Leave your squibbling alone! I have a gut feeling that neither party is going to bend. It's all a yes-no battle, in which more and more people feel forced to take sides. Let it end, and the best way to do that is to stop posting. I haven't seen anyone taking any steps in this direction, except for some people that are wise enough to continue ignoring it all.

Tips to make something your "final say" (this is for Isaac as I noticed his attempts at final posts were failing):

-MAKE IT YOUR FINAL SAY. Don't post anything afterwards. There are too many threads to monitor, who cares if you stop looking at one? Nobody. For all they know, you're the pope.
-Don't direct a message to anyone in particular, it will cause that person to react, and means you'll have to react again.
-Do not offend, say anything that causes offence, blame anybody for something. Be neutral.
-Remember it's YOU that posts, it's YOU that makes another topic if you want one. Nobody drives you to it. No need to get the last word. It's the Internet, not a way of life. If you don't like the community, go elsewhere.

And remember:
If you want fun, if you want somebody to play jokes with you, if you want to out yourself: get on the Internet. If you want love, understanding and kindness, go out and meet people.

Don't worry Bat. The forum survived the Isaac VS JP deal. And gave us the wonderful thread "Lyrics that describe JPFunk". It'll get through this.
We'll ignore all the shit and start some fun threads.

I haven't been on there for two years at least, since it was "upgraded" and lost all its personality, as well as my account. And then i made a new account but forgot both my username and password.

Doesn't the administration interfere with all the crap that's going on? Aren't there moderators or something...can't threads be closed or other measures be taken? Sure, to be true to its namesake the forum must be liberal and free of censorship but surely there's a limit if the whole forum is at risk...?
