The Simpsons...

BBP - 1-11-2005 at 18:39

Are they still good? I haven't seen any episodes made after 2001.

James - 1-11-2005 at 19:08

The newer episodes are very good in general, yes!

MrGreenJeanzz - 1-11-2005 at 20:03

South Park > Simpsons.

Certainly not. South Park < Simpsons.

Pappawas1975 - 2-11-2005 at 10:18

Im not too keen on the newer episodes actually...I find them a little too "plot based", if that makes sense....Less of Homer being a goofball, and more "family scrapes"....

BBP - 2-11-2005 at 23:22

Good to hear they're still going... wish I could see anything newer than the Britney episode.

Pappawas1975 - 3-11-2005 at 12:36

I think The Simpsons will go on forever!

James - 3-11-2005 at 17:32

Yeah they will. Maybe until Groening dies.

Pappawas1975 - 3-11-2005 at 18:05

I heard they were making a movie?.I kinda hope not, cos that would suck IMO....Movies of series such as The Simpsons usually either dont work and / or kill of the greatness of the series in the first place...

James - 3-11-2005 at 19:31

Yeah I agree totally.

BBP - 3-11-2005 at 23:05

Dunno, if it's half as good as the South Park movie, I'd love it.

Pappawas1975 - 3-11-2005 at 23:10

That Sout Park movie is funny actually.....I think your post has actually made me realise my above comment was wrong too...

BBP - 3-11-2005 at 23:17

...How many series like Simpsons are there anyway?

scallopino - 20-11-2005 at 03:18

Oh man, don't get me started on how good the Simpsons are. Look at my signature thing. LOOK AT IT!!!!!

I believe there have been 17 seasons, or they're into the 17th. I hope it never ends...

and the music was great. "Blame Canada!! Blame Canada!! The're not even a real country anway!".

scallopino - 20-11-2005 at 03:27

Do you guys like Family Guy? People kept telling me to watch it for ages, and that it's funnier than the Simpsons and all this crap, and i was suspicious at first. But alas, I know love it and it is at least as equally funny as the Simpsons. The animation is not as good though.

"When Canada is dead and gone,
There'll be no more Celine Dion!"

Never seen Family Guy... I live near Limbo, I'm afraid...

Pappawas1975 - 21-11-2005 at 12:26

Family Guy is great! Alot of people havent heard of it for some reason though, but it is definitely worth seeing......Very funny....

It's hilarious. What about the one where this happens:

Lois Griffin: I hate these high-pressure sales situations.
Peter Griffin: That's so cute. You're afraid that because you're a woman you'll do something stupid like buy that time-share or not realize that I taped over our wedding video with softcore porn.
Lois Griffin: You taped over our wedding video?
Peter Griffin: Relax, Lois. I just taped over the boring stuff.
[Cut to wedding video]
Priest: The couple wrote their own vows, which they will now recite to each other.
Lois Griffin: Peter, I...
Woman: The only reason I got myself arrested was to find out what happened to my sister.
Guard: Excuse me, ladies. It's laundry time.
[Cheesy porn music playing]
Woman: It's so cold in here. I mean, look at my...
Lois Griffin: Oh, my God, Peter! I sent a copy of that tape to my Great Aunt Lil!
Old Man: This wedding is hot!
Old Man (to his groin): Wake up, damn it! Wake up!

scallopino - 22-11-2005 at 03:47

Same episode:

Salesman: If you'll sign this contract, I'll take your blank check and you'll not be loving your time-share before you know it.
Peter Griffin: We're not gonna buy your lousy time-share, all right? Now, where's my boat?
Salesman: Hold on. You have a choice. You can have the boat or the mystery box.
Lois Griffin: Are you crazy? We'll take the boat.
Peter Griffin: Not so fast, Lois. A boat's a boat. But the mystery box could be anything. It could even be a boat. You know how much we wanted one...
Lois Griffin: Then let's--
Peter Griffin: We'll take the box.

Pappawas1975 - 22-11-2005 at 10:35

Ha!....quality....

scallopino - 22-3-2006 at 07:44

Very nice. Hey, did they ever retrieve the real Scream? You know it was stolen a year or so ago. . .

BBP - 22-3-2006 at 13:46

There are about 40 real Screams...
They haven't found the Scream or the Madonna yet, but the suspects are now on trial.

Yesterday I saw the Simpsons movie... It's pretty good! Unlike the episodes, there aren't whole sections which don't make sense. Some clever film references too!

DED - 6-4-2008 at 16:27

I stay awake during the whole movie

something special

scallopino - 7-4-2008 at 09:16

I also really liked the Simpsons movie. I was disappointed though by the overall lack of jokes and lack of guests. There's usually more guests in one episode than there was for the whole film. I think the reason for both is that so much had to get cut out.

I'm sort of glad they went for an actual plot-oriented movie instead of a gag filled episode styled movie without a plot. Plus it had an environmental message.

BBP - 7-4-2008 at 11:40

Seen the film three times now... I'm glad they settled for few good jokes rather than lots of bad jokes. But a lot of funny stuff got cut out, and judging the commentary, there's a lot more funny stuff that never made the DVD.

DED - 7-4-2008 at 14:43

The art of cutting out

You cant laugh for more than a hour constantly.
Its a pity they choose to cut out the more intelligent jokes in favour of Homer walking to a three and so on.
I liked Esp. the cutted out pieces regarding Arnold Schwarzenegger.

BBP - 7-4-2008 at 15:18

Ha! But few thinks work better than walking into a tree!
Thing about that joke is I doubt it'd work in a movie context.

Did you notice it was a different badguy? There were 2 designs of the EPA boss. Burger King was sent the wrong one and made 150,000 dolls of a character that didn't end up in the movie.

scallopino - 8-4-2008 at 11:32

Is there commentary for the whole movie?

BBP - 8-4-2008 at 14:33

Oh yeah! In fact, there are 2 commentaries for the whole movie (including the lengthy credits). One features Matt Groening, Dan Castellanata, Yeardley Smith and several writers. The other one has several scene directors. Especially the one with Matt, actors and writers/animators is entertaining, because occasionally the actors don't know something technical and then they get a nice explication. The director commentary is a lot more specialized and not so entertaining.

scallopino - 9-4-2008 at 11:50

Matt is a really interesting guy. He has an incredible knowledge of music and popular culture and a really strange sense of humour. Sometimes it's hard to listen to David Mirkin on a commentary because he tends to take over and talk non-stop.

BBP - 9-4-2008 at 19:10

If there WAS somebody annoying to listen to on the commentary, to me it was Dan Castellanata. (who sounds not like any Simpson character when talking) At the heartbreak "Close To You" section, he had the frame freeze and entered a lengthy monologue on the physical fulfillment of acting, which was a stretch.

scallopino - 10-4-2008 at 09:21

Yeah, Dan sounds like none of his characters. I have never ever heard anyone I know get close to Homer's voice. It's so different to everything.

I've heard the writers talk about Dan's physical voice acting...I think the animators sometimes go and watch him record the voice track to get ideas on how to animate it.

MTF - 12-11-2008 at 20:17

When he does the voice of Homer, he moves his head way back in order to stretch his throat. I guess that's the only way he can get his voice deep enough.

It looks pretty unnatural, and probably takes a lot of energy to do this. I'm sure there's a limit to how much Homer he can do in a single recording session.

BBP - 12-11-2008 at 23:30

And the "new Homer" still sounds higher than the Homer in the first few seasons.

BBP - 21-10-2009 at 13:03

 It's a great idea! PlayGirl went out of business here so there's no Homer-equivalent for us... then again I've seen enough of that since the They Saved Lisa's Brain episode (with Stephen Hawking, one of my faves).

MTF - 24-10-2009 at 09:11

My understanding is that Playgirl isn't meant for women anyway...

Calvin - 22-11-2009 at 07:12

Hey, women objectify men just as much as.....um....no, forget it.

DED - 22-11-2009 at 17:26

Correct me if I am wrong

On the cover of the playboy in the USA Marge Simpson
and on the cover of the dutch playboy a 60 year old Patricia Paay.

I Think I'm Stuck to my Donald Duck

You bet we do! You can really only see that in films that were directed by women. Such as the Josh Hartnett introduction on screen in Virgin Suicides.
And as Curry-fan I definitely see some weirdo's on YouTube comments, typing stuff like "Let's kidnap him and take turns."

MTF - 19-12-2009 at 10:25

I just got Season 2 of The Simpsons on DVD. Amazing: just about every episode is a classic. And they're all in hi-def too...

I don't think women do, actually. I can't imagine that it's women making pornography a billion dollar business. (If it is anymore....no idea)

BBP - 25-1-2011 at 13:51

They do, trust me! But not in the same way as men do. That's how "feminist porn" became a separate genre. And now that I see how vibrators have made their way out of the specialized stores and into your regular electronics shop, I'm sure of it.

Huck_Phlem - 26-1-2011 at 02:57

you mean neck massagers are?...but they look just like.... oh wait I see. :bouncy:

BBP - 26-1-2011 at 18:14

You know those vibrating rubber ducks? Don't tell me you think they're kid's toys that can actually swim!!

Huck_Phlem - 26-1-2011 at 21:35

Funny story. a friend was having a Bachelor party and some of us guys at work wanted to get him an inflatable doll of some sort and I was the only one who had the guts to go buy it so I got him an inflatable sheep. Also because I lived in on of the areas of San Francisco that had adult stores too.

For my own contribution I got him a 6 pack of Tab. He said later not one single person at the party had one.

BBP - 10-2-2015 at 19:10

The newer seasons of Simpsons are now airing here, and I am enjoying them even though it's a bit weird seeing Edna married to Ned.

aquagoat - 11-2-2015 at 18:33

I haven't watched an episode of the Simpsons for about a decade, I think.:duh:

BBP - 11-2-2015 at 20:31

I taped them off and occasionally refer to them in time of need.
