Firstly I want to say good on you Bonny for making this possible and hello to everyone already registered here.

When I registered there was no indication of an acceptable use policy. I noticed in the members list that some members have already been banned. Is there a page I can read that indicates what you guys deem acceptable or should I just use my common sense - assuming I have any?

:freak:

Addendum: I also noticed that the profile editor won't register my birthday, does that mean I'm too old?

Glad to see you here, poly.

Yeah it doesn't work for me either.

DED - 2-4-2006 at 08:10

The only members that are banned, that I know of, are the aliasses of the former owner who had done some actions we're not fond of.
One of his aliasses (they all have the same IP) is still member so at least as he has something useful to say, he is able to do that.
Latest banned member was trying to attack the forum with spam.
As for the age I think there is no field in the database, so what you are typing is lost. Maybe we can fix it. I shall have a look but I have to wait for bbp and that can take several hours.....

Welcome Polydigm!

As far as i know about acceptable use, anything goes (within reason) but just don't try and kill the forum!

scallopino - 2-4-2006 at 08:48

And if you didn't know already, allow us to introduce you to the honourable Mr. DED: father of BBP and Zazkia.

polydigm - 2-4-2006 at 09:16

Thanks for the welcome everyone and especially thanks to DED for helping out. I was aware of some of the difficulties getting this latest incarnation on the road from reading the Packard Goose thread on the Official Zappa Forum.

Hey, scallopino, what does Tom Waits look like in that picture? He's a character isn't he? I don't really get into his music much any more but I might try and get a hold of a book of his lyrics, because I've always been impressed with his use of words.

Well now that I have found out that the birthday problems are due to the choice of bbp for the (Dutch) dd-mm-yyyy format in the member table. The date format is not giving anywhere problems that I know of but in the member table now forms and table format are not compatible. Everyone has the same age now of Christ  0-0-0000

BBP - 2-4-2006 at 12:50

Welcome Polydigm! Good to see you here, how are you doing?

The day format wasn't my choice.

The only rule that I have on this forum is: No Spam. One of the banned members began spamming the board which may have been cause for the crash. The other is a regular spammer who filled the guest-book with junk, used an invalid e-mailaddress and had a dubious link in her profile.

PS my birthday is 0-0-0000 as well, but it's really 4-4, next Tuesday. Really!

I'm doing fine, thanks. It's good to have somewhere else to go when the zappa forum isn't running, but now that I'm registered here I'll stay in touch whatever happens over there. Don't you have enough on your plate without running a forum as well?

BBP - 2-4-2006 at 22:39

Oh yeah, but the actual forum running is not hard work unless something's wrong.
Besides, DED helps me out whenever I'm short of time or knowledge.

polydigm - 1-6-2006 at 23:25

I suppose I'm not really a newbie here any more but I just dropped by after not having visited for a while and wanted to say hello without starting a new thread or disturbing the flow of one that's current. I notice there's still the small core of regulars that were here when I first joined. So, anyway, hello!!

scallopino - 2-6-2006 at 03:34

Ello Poly. It seems there is a regular flow of newbies joining, but they don't participate in the messageboard for some reason.

BBP - 2-6-2006 at 08:05

Hi Poly! Good to see you again!

Yeah there's a number of noobs, I think the last few were all spammers. Their e-mail addresses did not exist and the link in the site zone referred to a porn site. Had to remove them to prevent people from clicking on them. They're banned now.

polydigm - 7-7-2006 at 03:21

Yes, there are spammers from sex sites having a go at the zappa.com forum as well. Someone pointed out that P/O threads were being deleted quicker than spam threads, which is a telling point. None the less, I think the new forum is okay.

BBP - 7-7-2006 at 13:42

Yeah, it is cool, now that I'm getting used to it (buttons being in the wrong places and all)... I love the shortcut keys you can use when composing a post.

polydigm - 6-3-2008 at 00:30

Hi people. I haven't been here for a while and was inspired to do so because of you know what. I still appreciate the existence of this forum but it can be very lonely at the times I usually log on. I guess I just have to be more patient.

scallopino - 6-3-2008 at 08:31

Hi Poly! What's happening? Sick of cricket shenannigans?

polydigm - 6-3-2008 at 08:48

Listen old chap, it's simply just not cricket!

BBP - 6-3-2008 at 10:24

It usually is quiet out here... sigh... (remembers hour-long U2U chats...)

polydigm - 6-3-2008 at 13:45

Hey BBP, hang in there, shit happens, you still have a lot of friends on zappa.com.

polydigm - 6-3-2008 at 13:50

Just thought I'd mention another reason I like coming back here: my original puzzle avatar works. It takes up too much memory to work at zappa.com.

punknaynowned - 6-3-2008 at 19:04

time testing
. . .
spot on!

Was that a sigh of longing for the quieter times or a sigh of sad reflection?

BBP - 7-3-2008 at 12:19

A longing for the days when I made huge e-mail discussions with Gojira about mustard and tea...

polydigm - 11-11-2012 at 23:17

This is where it all began. This is post number 1001 for me after being a member for over six and half years.
