is it worth it-??

vivien_o_blivion - 28-3-2006 at 21:36

just spotted this little baby on e-bay priced at£120

question is.....is it worth it--??

BBP - 28-3-2006 at 22:07

-Is it real?
-Do you have the money for it?
-Do you have a place to put it?
-Can I visit you once you bought it?

If you answered "Yes" to all of these questions, buy it.

The only downside to ebay is that you can't steal stuff from it. I would go for it. It seems worth more than that.

aquagoat - 29-3-2006 at 08:49

question is: are you enough a fan to put your money in that ? I wouldn't buy that thing cause I'm not the greatest Zappa fan in the world, but if you feel you MUST have this item, buy it.:)

Is it the last bid or the direct buy price?
Just wait until the last hours when the bidding gets more serious.
For me I think the value is limited. It is a UK golden record. Has Frank actually get this record? I do not think so. I think he didn't even see it.

£120 is the buy it now price--and your right frank never saw it---the plaque underneath it reads" presented to reconise sales of the album s.y.b blah blah blah"--but it neglects to say whom it was presented to-!!!

So it's not real, but you do have the money for it and have a place to put it, but don't know whether or not I can come to see it?
:puzzled:

so the list should read

1-?
2-no
3-yes
4-of course you can

Pappawas1975 - 30-3-2006 at 10:29

If its genuine, Id say this is pretty good.....I personally wouldnt buy it, but if thats the kind of the thing you dig, go for it.......

BBP - 30-3-2006 at 13:42

I wonder if you could actually listen to the gold record.

Puptent - 30-3-2006 at 14:52

I think many of these gold records are either just promotional items or outright fakes. There are actually companies that manufacture these as a memorabilia item.

The fact that the plaque doesn't say anything about to whom it was presented to should be a warning sign, I guess...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4822768582...

here's the link to the auction-check it out for yourselves see what you all think:puzzled:

Puptent - 31-3-2006 at 01:16

What it is, is what it is... for 100+ pounds you'll get a nice gold laminated album in a nice frame, but these are only memorabilia items and don't have any real value.

Look at the seller's auctions and it appears their specialty is selling gold or platinum albums of every band under the sun. Hey, they even sell a "Bronze LP ACE OF SPADES by MOTORHEAD"

A Bronze LP? That reminds me of the Spinal Tap movie... Bronze = one million albums returned to stores.. :D

scallopino - 31-3-2006 at 04:55

I changed my mind. Don't buy it, viv.

aquagoat - 31-3-2006 at 08:43

No, don't buy it, send me the money instead.:D

vivien_o_blivion - 1-4-2006 at 17:46

i never had any intention of buying it--i just get bored replying to the same old threads every day--so i just thought i'd start a new one & see what people think

...And, these arent given "free" to artists who sell the amount of records shown.....The record company pays for them, contrary to popular belief.....Although, if you go platinum, I guess it is free...

vivien_o_blivion - 9-9-2006 at 21:21

this definately is not worth it i.m.o
