Surely you must have seen my dragon-pic at one time or another in the Zappa-forum:

This actually appeared in a comic, the promotional Fata Morgana, a Suske & Wiske-comic. (Brits may know them as Willy and Wanda, Spike & Suzy, Bob & Bobette, Frenchies as Bob et Bobette) The earlier comics from this series are highly catholic, so I was surprised to find a Zappa-reference in them.

I can appreciate the joke in it, but it is only valid in English.
The official name of Austria is in German, their official language.
Austria is named "Republik Цsterreich" In Dutch "Oostenrijk" and in French L'Autriche. (land in the east)

The name Australia is derived from the Latin Australis, meaning of the South. Legends of an "unknown land of the south" (terra australis incognita) date back to the Roman times and were commonplace in mediaeval geography, but they were not based on any actual knowledge of the continent. The Dutch adjectival form Australische ("Australian", in the sense of "southern") was used by Dutch officials in Batavia to refer to the newly discovered land to the south as early as 1638. The first use of the word "Australia" in English was a 1693 translation of Les Aventures de Jacques Sadeur dans la Dйcouverte et le Voyage de la Terre Australe, a 1692 French novel by Gabriel de Foigny under the pen name Jacques Sadeur

I do have a questionmark about the french name for Austria
since east is l'est and Цsterreich is translated into L'Autriche.

Wow this is kind a :offtopic::D

Don't give up though, attempting to make them cryptic is a good idea, I think. Of course I haven't managed to come up with a good one myself, maybe next weekend.

I know that there are pictures of girls dressed in banana's.
Since there is a awful lotta Magnesium in a banana and other food, it could be a cryptical one.

Going For The Money
which also appears on Cheap Thrills
Jeff Quits
A Bunch Of Adventures

First time I saw that episode it was German synchronised... which is hilarious to watch anytime. This episode was especially funny because that panda sings a song, and the translation has a lot more syllables than the original version:

scallopino - 20-8-2006 at 08:30

A commercial tv network has actually started showing all those old british comedies like ''On the Buses'' and ''George and Mildred". Very out of character. As soon as Big Brother finished the most recent series all the great shows are coming back on!

BBP - 20-8-2006 at 12:41

Speaking of Big Brother, the Dutch version has 2 of my cousins in the house. They didn't know what was going to happen to them other than usual... is going to be a cold bath I can tell you. They're not allowed to go outside, and they'll be excluded from all natural light. They're not allowed watches or anything, and the BB directors control the light switch, so they don't know when the day starts or ends. Suppose the torture never stops...

scallopino - 21-8-2006 at 09:14

Wow. Are you going to vote for them bbp? Your Big Brother version sounds interesting. Our version is known as "Big Bogan", because all the housemates are bogans. A bogan is someone who wears singlets and drinks beer and swears all the time and is or pretends to be as stupid as possible.

DED - 21-8-2006 at 10:33

I'm voting them off as easy as they can say Ded is your uncle :bouncy:
I love that old series, and I sure love to see them again. Unfortenately I see them again and again and again. But never I see Please sir again and the follow up where the teacher from Please sir is a owner of a restaurant. (CAnt remenber the name of the guy and the program. There were a lot of good series in the old day's.

BBP - 21-8-2006 at 16:47

The last picture was more confusing than helping. It is only one word you need and that is premiere.
Then you have premiere, a specific theatre, Beethoven and the fifth.
Question is When was the premiere?
The answer is That was exactly .... ..... ago
And that is the solution

Does it matter that the song is about 200 years USA?
I really thought that the topic tile was titles in pictures.

scallopino - 18-2-2008 at 07:56

I admit that I would never have got that one. I guess it's your shot BBP. Have mercy on us dull folk from the country.

BBP - 19-2-2008 at 23:17

Not too hard...(but heavy!~)

scallopino - 22-2-2008 at 10:17

Is it an obscure one? What decade was it?

BBP - 22-2-2008 at 12:45

Heh heh... No it's not obscure at all... I think the decade would be a big hint...
Oh well. 80s.

DED - 23-2-2008 at 10:08

scallopino - 23-2-2008 at 18:16

Oh! Is it "Jumbo Go Away" from You Are What You Is?

BBP - 24-2-2008 at 00:53

Correct!

scallopino - 24-2-2008 at 12:39

Woohoo!

scallopino - 24-2-2008 at 13:12

And a very nice drawing by the way.

Ok.

BBP - 24-2-2008 at 16:58

Electric Aunt Jemima!

:shy: Thanks for the compliment!

scallopino - 25-2-2008 at 08:02

Damn you Bonny! Was it that easy? Was Jemima a part of your childhood too?

BBP - 25-2-2008 at 11:03

Nah... just move the mouse cursor over the picture, see the location, usually gives a hint about what it is.

BBP - 25-2-2008 at 22:10

And then there's...

scallopino - 28-2-2008 at 13:01

If I didn't use the trick, I would have never have worked out that it must be Echidna's Arf (Of You). It looks nothing like the animal. Much nicer breasts, for example.

BBP - 28-2-2008 at 17:36

Echidna in Greek mythology is the Mother of All Monsters. Her offspring include Cerberus (hell hound), Chimera (lion with a snake for tail, and a goat head on his back) and Scylla (watermonster).

We call the animal mierenegel (ant hedgehog).

scallopino - 29-2-2008 at 12:45

I often hear mothers complain that their children are little monsters, but they should feel for poor Mrs Echidna. Imagine trying to raise that lot. And she doesn't even have any legs!

Anyway:

Nup! There is a title that is exactly equivalent to the phrase "heart transplant". "You" are the recipient.

BBP - 2-3-2008 at 18:06

Directly from my heart to you?
I left my heart in San Francisco?

scallopino - 3-3-2008 at 12:15

Neither one of those... Perhaps you're thinking too deep.

Hint: I've doubled the "correct" answers to 2 because there is another title I found that is equally apt in such a strong way that saying it's wrong would be very odd.

No!

Need another hint, before you post the entire Zappa discography? ;)

polydigm - 7-3-2008 at 06:17

I'm not just randomly going through the discography. I've chosen titles that I thought might match.

Do I need a hint? Well, there's not a lot to go on. It's Courtney Love and I'm not sure she has anything directly to do with a Zappa title. Ignoring her name she's a blond with purple streaks in her hair and very full lips emphasised with radical lipstick.

Is she Jewish? Jewish Princess?

scallopino - 7-3-2008 at 11:07

Is it based on the name or the person? (The signifier or the signified?)

BBP - 7-3-2008 at 12:07

The signifier... You're so going to guess it now...

polydigm - 7-3-2008 at 13:50

It may not be lotion it might be some kind of cleanser, but that's not the point. The cartoon is hinting at what governments in general seem to do well, but if I say anything else I'll give it away. Okay, I'll narrow it down to the eighties albums.

polydigm - 13-3-2008 at 00:02

Help I'm A Rock? If not, try giving some clues.

punknaynowned - 13-3-2008 at 09:39

I took the picture at face value.
Somewhere I think there is someone who uses those Official US Postal Service envelopes to make art on and then posts them up on the street. Illegally, because they can.
Not exactly, high art obviously, a cute kind of vandalism (because it is intentionally impermanent) but that doesn't matter.
But so far, reading the thing for what it is, at face value. It has its own context that is not on the internet and is described as such on the item itself.
On the other hand we are posting notes on the internet in a frame that is already established as is. There's no defacing of anything, except for content which is text and images. No drawing or coloring outside of the lines here, so to speak.
I can't really be more explicit.
(:

punknaynowned - 13-3-2008 at 14:05

I work in a restaurant and made up a joke there. Acadian 2 may think it bland (:

I get a container of dijon mustard and show it to someone and ask, "Do you see this mustard?"
and when they reply in the affirmative, I answer "Dijon view."

Most often I get a quizzical look. They didn't get it. So sometimes I tell them simply, it gets better the more often it's told. Lately I've taken to showing them the mustard when they remark that they have deja vu. Even then sometimes they don't get it.
and these are smart people.

Badchild - 13-3-2008 at 15:07

Dijon View....sheesh!

did you ever have a waiter ask "two for lunch" and reply "Huh, no actually, were here for a bowling game"...

A little bit of both. It's not an exact replica of the title like your Duke + Chops idea. It's more than just the theme though. If I told you what occurred to me when I first looked at this picture, that would give it away. It's very similar to something in my Zappa collection that you may not have seen. Give it a whirl and see what happens.

Badchild - 28-3-2008 at 14:12

Oh fuck! yes it's Uncle remus..... Like that little lawn jockey heh!

Ok Poly, yours must be "the radio is Broken" !

That wasn't my question! I think i asked you WHAT you were symbolising! Do you mean this round symbolises the content more than the title?

BBP - 28-3-2008 at 18:08

If it were a Bowie song I'd say Space Oddity.

Badchild: Uncle Remus? (jockey on the lawn)

Come on Bonny, you have to keep up. I figured that one out already. :D

And, no, it's not The Radio Is Broken.

And to Scallop: What I meant was that the Make Love Not War picture did not symbolise the title. It was more cryptic than that. The picture reminded me of the back cover of the I Don't Wanna Get Drafted single which has Ancient Armaments on the flip side. This time I'm trying pictures that literally symbolise the song title.

punknaynowned - 29-3-2008 at 01:03

Are you saying it's Crew Slut? Because if you are, that's a really terrible thing to say about Ms Hilton.

You see? It was too easy. Next time I do this, I'm going to be more cryptic.

And, Punky, I just showed you the pictures, you made the association.

Anyway, well done, you have a go.

I think I'm figuring it out!
hahahaha, you showed the pictures but the idea of the game is that we agree to submit to other's ideas -- to be led along by the series, or to convert pictoral to verbal ideas, to make associations of stuff that other's put up-- which means thinking like 'they' would and in order to do that, put yourself in the imagined head space of other's, what other's are likely to see or call something. We all are (thankfully) sharing a common language and cultural set so that's not too hard. But admit, you are being devilish by making that association to be found in the first place.
(: Now don't get me wrong, I don't care one way or the other what you or anybody thinks of that celebrity or their behavior. I don't keep a tv so I don't have to watch it or even know what the hell it's about. Just giving ya heck. (:
Now Im off hunting pictures

It's not like Punky didn't provide enough clues. I'm too tired right now to search for another puzzle, but I'm thinking about it. If anyone else has got an idea in the mean time, go for it.

Badchild gets the prize for the most imaginative answers. Go into the change rooms and try this one on for size:

Badchild - 3-4-2008 at 12:55

thanks what do i win ???

that could be City of Tiny Lights although i dont see the link between a shore road and a city ??

But hey! i got imagination to spare...

scallopino - 4-4-2008 at 08:58

You win the Imagination prize: imagine the best prize you could think of and it's yours, imaginarily.

It isn't City of Tiny Lights. The word 'light' in the last picture is an unneeded accessory and I didn't even notice it until I already posted it here.

Badchild - 4-4-2008 at 09:30

Well i'm imagining a red 05 mustang GT so thanks again...

Florentine Pogen...

Badchild - 11-4-2008 at 08:26

Tricheuse....you looked at the properties of those images to find the answer...didn't you ?

Why are a bunch of Dutch people in the woods called a Pogen ?

BBP - 11-4-2008 at 08:37

A pogen is in Dutch infinitive, meaning "to try". The pic comes from a local newspaper in the north of Belgium (in Turnhout), near the border.

The easiest-to-recognize building in Florence to me is the Dome of the church. When it was initiated, Guillaume DuFay composed something for the occasion, one of the most famous pieces of the era.

The reason I picked "Why Don't You Like Me" is because you said "Why Don'cha Do Me Right" was close. Then you said "Why Don't You Like Me" was close but there were no other "Why Don't You" songs left and then it twigged that "Why Don't You Like Me" is really "Tell Me You Love Me". So, even though it led me to the answer, how is "Why Don'cha Do Me Right" close?

Yes, I did actually figure out the chunga-changa thing, but I thought that was just a coincidence, or I had it wrong or something because the cover as a whole didn't seem to have anything to do with Chunga's Revenge.

Oh well, who's going next?

It's an interesting idea, but personally I put a fair bit of work into finding pictures appropriate for puzzles. I just wouldn't have the same motivation with everyone knowing the title before hand, because the need to find something that will challenge people is gone. I also like the challenge of trying to guess what someone else's concoction might mean.

This is my favourite thread and I find it quite refreshing after spending time at the zappa.com forum which has just gone really bad lately. I find myself hoping that Zombie would just walk under a bus and get it over with.

BBP - 30-4-2008 at 15:03

We could start a Z-Title In Pictures there of course!

...I made one on a private forum, run by a Zapp-forumer. Unfortunately it's like when you triple the amount of participants, you also triple the amount of questions asked at the same time. Chaos erupts! And when that happens, it never takes long for a thread to die.

punknaynowned - 1-5-2008 at 18:19

Put a Motor IN U2's Shelf!
:P

Seriously, I sure don't want to take anyone's fun away.

It just seemed to me that it was much more obvious to the poster that their chosen pictures matched the title in their head
and much less obvious to everyone else, except for a couple 'easy' exceptions.
Doing it backwards WOULD take away the competition and winner aspect,
BUT as I'm realising that everyone's visual aesthetic seems different and therefore the subjective attachments to the ideas that the title conjures for the poster will be different, have been different.

So doing it backwards, title first, and each of us come up with our own set of pictures (same amount of looking, I would figure) would , instead highlight our interesting subjective aesthetic differences, rather than 'How did you come up with that, from THAT' etc.

Just an idea.

This thread seems to be languishing for some reason or other. As I've already admitted to Bonny privately I always check the image names as a matter of course and in this case they do directly give the answer, so if you haven't looked already and you want a challenge then try not to look.

So, is everyone finding this too difficult, or are you all just too busy? This forum seems a bit quiet at the moment. Anyway, keep working on Bonny's latest challenge, but here's an easy one to try at the same time.

Yeah, I accidentally looked at the names of the pictures as well before I saw the suggestion to not look. That's why I didn't guess. If I didn't look I'd have no idea.

I haven't been coming here everyday because I've been sort of snowed under with uni lately.

Bonny: Tinseltown Rebellion (as that is Green Day -- the best example of that I could think of)

GREEN DAY??!! Wash your mouth! No, these people performed in Eindhoven on April 10.

I changed the picture because the first one wouldn't show up anymore, it is still Presidents of the USA.

Bonny, Plastic People?

Punky, it's a Wah Wah pedal and a Jimi Hendrix model in particular. What kind of noise did he used to make with it?

punknaynowned - 11-5-2008 at 05:13

Fire, Purple Haze, the screaming sounds of airplane motors in the sky, machine gun
and Franki? he could do that too but did a lot of other things too it seems with a whawah pedal
I've read the stories that Frank introduced the wahwah to Hendrix,
does it sound like the noise of the words t'mershi duween to you?

I'm not trying to be thick:drool:

polydigm - 11-5-2008 at 09:42

I thought I had already given it away, but here's some more. This comes from an interview with Frank where he describes how he used a Wah Wah pedal as a frequency filter to make slight adjustments to the tone in contrast to others like Hendrix who just rhythmically went up and down with it. That should have given it away.

BBP - 11-5-2008 at 10:02

You can feed back the fuzz tone from your wah wah... Is it We're Turning Again?

Bonny, you haven't answered my question. Is it Plastic People? [Ladies and Gentlemen, the president of the United States]

Everyone, it's the way in which Zappa referred to the sound that Jimmy Hendrix made with a Wah Wah pedal.

You didn't ask... No it's not Plastic People. Nice guess though.

Now it seems obvious, but I still don't think wakajawaka is the sound that came out of hendrix' wahwah. Even if frank said so.

So Bonny gets the inside track? What did she say about Venice?

punknaynowned - 18-5-2008 at 05:04

in one of the picture threads she said only that she'd heard that it was impossible to find a picture of Venice without a pigeon in it. It's too simple, I know.

polydigm - 18-5-2008 at 08:45

I think I can see only one pigeon - without making the connection you've just made, I don't think anyone except Bonny would have been able to get it.

Questi Cazzi Di Piccione?

punknaynowned - 18-5-2008 at 09:09

yes polydigm!
but I think the only real limiting factor is knowing that it's Venice (which is mostly obvious) and even more importantly, having read the liner notes to the Yellow Shark. The fact there is a pigeon doesn't give it away, nor the number of pigeons (I only see one as well).

I was not thinking she had any more info than anyone else, the mention that doesn't give anything away I thought is just over in the picture thread. Wasn't try to pull a fast one on anybody.

oh well, still, I like the picture

would readily associate the noun 'wind'? I wasn't gonna say this but the string (and probably percussionist's back there in the back) made me reject the idea at all. I don't think it's obvious at all, I think it's pretty obtuse or, at least, highly subjective.
Poly, lemme guess. Are you a high school band teacher? That would make a lot more sense.

Damn I knew it was too easy! Ok Baddy, go ahead.

scallopino - 3-6-2008 at 05:30

I can't see a viola in the picture. The only string instrument I can see is double bass. I know double basses are common in brass bands, military bands and concert bands, and their players usually have receding hairlines and/or beards. And they aren't just there as an extra; lots of composers of band music wrote for double bass (some I know are Holst and Vaughn Williams).

So I have to agree with Poly on this one Punk. This doesn't discount the fact that he may be disturbed though. ;)

punknaynowned - 3-6-2008 at 11:03

ok, so it's a double bass. I still don't see how these elements make it obvious that we were supposed to construe w-i-n-d out of all those possibilities. It's like having a multitude of variables for an equation, but only one value will ever work. And that's what you're trying to guess with the multitude of variables.
Kudos to you scallop and my inability to see a real connection in no way diminishes the value of your ability to make it. I just don't see it.

I should go back to Byzantine art

polydigm - 3-6-2008 at 22:08

Okay Punky, go to images.google.com and type in "wind ensemble" and see how many wind ensembles you can find that have only wind instruments. They also commonly have brass instruments, but generally they're only called brass bands if they have only brass instruments and no wind instruments. It's pretty much in common usage to call an orchestra without a string section a wind ensemble.

Anyway, I thought part of the aim here was to create some kind of a challenge. I personally prefer trying to guess ones that aren't immediately obvious and the fact of the matter is that in that picture of an ensemble, even if it wasn't called a wind ensemble, there are several wind instruments.

scallopino - 4-6-2008 at 11:21

This is really bugging you out isn't it? I think context makes a difference as well. I can't remember what my thought process was but I didn't get 'Wind' out of the second picture straight away...I didn't even get 'Teenage' from the first picture either. It is indeed like finding solutions to an equation. I didn't find either solution by itself; it was only after looking backwards and forwards at the two pictures that both solutions appeared simultaneously. And 'Teenage Wind' is the only set of solutions that fits the equation (Zappa title, two words, not any of the other guesses).

And looking back, 'Wind' seems to me to fit the second picture exactly. The same if it was 'Brass' for a brass ensemble. Another thing that makes the noun 'wind' fit the picture is that 'wind' and 'brass' are common nouns to describe collections of woodwind or brass players (at least in Australia, and i guess everywhere else).

I think it's very interesting to question why some people agree on certain associations and some don't. There's a lot of reasons why and they usually aren't mentioned.

This is a curious question. I have a real hard time with this one in many areas. I remember at a pretty young age I decided I should learn as much of how the brain works as I could. I was young, it didn't get very far. Later still, I focused on associations of ideas, as that seemed to me how . . . the connections were made.
And it is. If everything works right, which is a given.;-)
Maybe I should start a thread on associations

maybe not.:P

Badchild - 5-6-2008 at 09:43

Bonny you cheated again ! No looking at the properties of the pictures!

Yes it's Harry and rhonda

and here i was thinking that it was going to be a tough one.....

Ok back to that progressive discussion about word associations and the workings of the brain... The associations you could make with pictures would have to be based on your personal experience and the wealth of information that your brain has compiled also, the manner in which that information is indexed on your cortex that makes it available to your neurons on a millisecond basis which in turn allows you to make an assumption of that particular association and then you spew forth with an answer that you hope will be the right one because you crave recognition of your brains capacities and conversely your grammatical capabilities... MY GOD I'VE GONE INTO TRENDMONGER MODE!:-P

So, does this lack of interest indicate that it's actually far too easy? Come on people, have a guess.

No, and I'm dying to hear how you got that one.

It's a two word title.

Bogus Pomp

No way!
that was a wild guess!
I can't be right!
what has a washed and written on Cleveland got to do with Bogus?

scallopino - 21-6-2008 at 17:10

That was an amazing guess. I think 'bogus' comes from the fact that it's a bill for a million bucks!

punknaynowned - 21-6-2008 at 19:52

punknaynowned - 21-6-2008 at 19:52

The million dollar bill is not real, therefore it's bogus, and the ceremony is a typical example of pomp.

polydigm - 22-6-2008 at 01:00

Call Any Vegetable?

punknaynowned - 22-6-2008 at 05:47

hooray!!
too easy?

I love the pepper picture, It just occurred to me they're actually berries:drool:

scallopino - 22-6-2008 at 15:39

Her phone's like sooo 2001.

BBP - 23-6-2008 at 14:14

Caution! Batchain may read that, Scallop! He hates that phrase! ;)

scallopino - 23-6-2008 at 14:24

Me too actually! And I hate phones!

BBP - 29-6-2008 at 17:33

Sooo.. Poly... were you going to post a new one or shall I take over?

Badchild - 3-7-2008 at 08:35

Drooling midrange accountants on easter hay!

I like the drooling part poly.....if you've had a retriever you'd know! yuck!

that was a good one Poly!

punknaynowned - 3-7-2008 at 08:50

wow!

[Edited on 3-7-08 by punknaynowned]

polydigm - 3-7-2008 at 13:30

Well done Badchild. The problem with these puzzles, especially one with several words in it, is that just one of the pictures can be enough to give it away. I thought it was the eggs in a basket that might be too easy. I was hoping with the dog picture that the drooling part wouldn't be immediately obvious. I rejected a few other pictures where the drool was a very dominant feature. Oh well, back to the drawing board, I'm sure I'll eventually come up with one that lasts more than a day or two.

Badchild - 3-7-2008 at 14:30

or as in most of mine -a minute or so!:-(

BBP - 12-7-2008 at 18:32

While we're waiting for Badchild's next entry:

scallopino - 13-7-2008 at 13:39

I have no idea. I'll ponder it.

BBP - 13-7-2008 at 18:14

2 words.

polydigm - 15-7-2008 at 06:28

I was going to say "Naval Aviation in Art", but that's not two words. What the hell is that in the picture? Or would that give it away?

polydigm - 15-7-2008 at 06:33

Mud Shark?

BBP - 15-7-2008 at 08:45

It would give it away. They're Japanese. The ones in the picture were actually made by Adam Savage.

Badchild - 15-7-2008 at 09:24

Sorry i had (have) so little time....I have seen those things before but my mind has dwindled soo much since my birthday last week that well.....huh what was i saying?

scallopino - 15-7-2008 at 09:57

Is it Damp Ankles again?

BBP - 15-7-2008 at 18:51

Heh! No! Not Damp Ankles.

polydigm - 16-7-2008 at 00:04

Sinister Footwear?

aquagoat - 16-7-2008 at 07:53

if they're japanese, i'd have to say: Black napkins, but it's not black and it doesn't look like napkins.

BBP - 16-7-2008 at 09:22

Right Poly! Those are mizugumo, Japanese footwear to walk on swamps.

Badchild - 16-7-2008 at 13:50

I knew that....

aquagoat - 16-7-2008 at 19:13

i didn't...

punknaynowned - 16-7-2008 at 20:11

amazing

BBP - 17-7-2008 at 10:13

Guessing Aquabot doesn't watch Mythbusters. ;)

aquagoat - 17-7-2008 at 14:46

i don't.

Badchild - 17-7-2008 at 16:09

You don't need to.

BBP - 17-7-2008 at 19:13

But it's fun.

Badchild - 18-7-2008 at 08:40

Did you ever notice that there is hardly an episode without some sort of weapon being used??? I'll admit that i watch(ed) the show, and that they did some neat stuff (like racing a hotweels car against the real thing down a hill, or making a giant subwoofer), but most times there shooting or blowing up a crash test dummy made with "balistic" rubber that "acts just like flesh". Did someone say "latent violence"?

BBP - 18-7-2008 at 09:00

There was this episode when they fold a paper more than 7 times, and there was this episode when they made a balloon out of lead... In general the episodes without weapons or fire seem to be considered "boring" by the producers.

Badchild - 18-7-2008 at 10:58

I liked to one where they played different types of music to plants to see the effet on the growth.

BBP - 18-7-2008 at 13:47

 Yeah, and the one where they made a mini-Hindenburg which accidentally caught fire...

NEW PUZZLE!!

Badchild - 18-7-2008 at 16:50

PICK ME I'M CLEAN ?

Really i am!

BBP - 19-7-2008 at 09:05

No!

aquagoat - 19-7-2008 at 09:39

waiting for the peanuts to dissolve ?

BBP - 19-7-2008 at 18:49

:D No...

polydigm - 20-7-2008 at 04:06

Yes, I figured out that those weird items were mizugumo but it took a while before the solution twigged.

I know what Badchild means about the weapons fetish. I remember watching a few of those discovery channel type shows and never going back because of the usual fascination with weapons. A really interesting one was where they dealt with the spontaneous combustion myth and set a dead pig on fire.

aquagoat - 20-7-2008 at 07:43

honey, don't you want a man like me ?

BBP - 20-7-2008 at 10:59

If that was a guess, no!

aquagoat - 21-7-2008 at 18:40

no, it was a proposal. ;-)

BBP - 22-7-2008 at 12:21

 JayPFunk was first... (shivers...)

polydigm - 22-7-2008 at 12:25

So it looks like a special bar of soap and a bottle of a particular Tasmanian beer. I have no idea yet where that could lead. :duh:

BBP - 23-7-2008 at 12:53

The joke is that it's not really soap. It's a detergent for a specific part of the human body.

polydigm - 24-7-2008 at 03:13

Okay, I did a little research and discovered there is track on Playground Psychotics called Beer Shampoo. Those words are in the pic title but they didn't mean anything to me to start with. I check out Playground Psychotics occasionally but I don't often recall the names of tracks like that.

What's become of that guy? Is he still around?

BBP - 24-7-2008 at 13:14

Yes. However now that we have that Zombie-dude JayP is no longer the most annoying person on the Zappa forum.

Poly: You're right!

scallopino - 25-7-2008 at 05:56

Wow. I thought JayP was hard to top.

BBP - 25-7-2008 at 08:38

Yup, me too... I miss that Lyrics That Describe Jay P Funk thread.

Badchild - 25-7-2008 at 15:02

Jeezzzz! you go and pick a song from the only album i never listen to!

ps...JPFunk must be in love or has been under medication for a few months now!

BBP - 26-7-2008 at 10:34

Yeah but who'd want to date JPFunk? ;)

scallopino - 26-7-2008 at 12:39

Maybe Zombie?

BBP - 26-7-2008 at 15:09

:D Or Isaac!

Badchild - 29-8-2008 at 10:49

Here's one (should be easy)

BBP - 30-8-2008 at 12:59

Is that guy at the bottom getting maple syrup or something?

scallopino - 31-8-2008 at 17:06

All I can tell is that it has something to do with Canada, and no title is jumping out at me right now. I'm actually really tired and will now head off to bed.

polydigm - 31-8-2008 at 23:50

Okay Badchild, is it a word per picture clue, or are they just to be taken together? If it's the latter case, could it be Magdalena?

Badchild - 1-9-2008 at 08:26

Poly you are right! The girl is wearing a shirt from Montreal and her father is making Maple syrup for the Pancakes of our land!

I knew it was too easy!

I've had that song in my head for weeks now (i don't know why...)

scallopino - 1-9-2008 at 15:23

I thought it was a good one Badchild! Poly was just all over it

BBP - 1-9-2008 at 18:01

Oh! I couldn't make out Montreal...

It's a very catchy song!

Badchild - 15-9-2008 at 17:29

In honor of Richard Wright of pink floyd... could someone try a PF title in pictures ??

BBP - 16-9-2008 at 14:57

polydigm - 16-9-2008 at 23:36

Careful With That Axe Eugene?

Badchild - 17-9-2008 at 07:45

Thank you.

BBP - 17-9-2008 at 08:26

Poly: Yes!

Badchild: You're welcome!

scallopino - 18-9-2008 at 13:46

They had some great song titles.

Lifting it up, could not find a picture but see this little youtube movie.

I don't dare to do it ...

DED - 17-4-2010 at 16:39

Zou jij de hele weg gaan?

polydigm - 17-4-2010 at 23:55

Okay DED, I don't speak Dutch, but I take it that a video of some dare devil flying into a small pool of water has invoked the title of a Zappa song in your mind. Am I right? Now I won't relax until I figure it out.

polydigm - 18-4-2010 at 00:38

The other thing here is about what's going on in the video itself. What happens to the guy if he misses the pool? There must have been a bit of trial and error here, they can't have got it right first time.

BBP - 18-4-2010 at 20:25

I don't dare to do it, w....

polydigm - 12-12-2010 at 00:30

Purple Lagoon?

Is anybody going to answer my questions above?

DED - 12-12-2010 at 12:34

Answers to your questions

It was builded together out of the vid and the sentence I don't dare to do it (Would you go the whole way)
There you have the Zappa song. I give it away in Dutch, so BBP would know the answer when I forget it. (That happens sometime, must be my age), If you had tried a babelfish translation, you would have theanswer too)

Then about the vid. The mythbusters tried to work it out. For safety reasons they tried it out in a lake with a target. In that case it was no problem if they missed the target. Surprisingly they landed always on the same spot, so it must be possible tho land in the target as on the movie. But the airtime was to high, by far they didn't reach the distance in the youtube movie. The makers of the movie later confess that it was a computer manupilation.
This must have answered all your questions.

Mythbusters try

[Edited on 13-12-2010 by DED]

BBP - 12-12-2010 at 13:19

If you were talking about mine Poly, it's not Purple Lagoon.

DED - 13-12-2010 at 21:02

And then the say I'm cryptic. I scanned all the titles but that seems to be not enough.
Only solvable for the real zappafans?
