Don died of "complications from Multiple Sclerosis," which likely is a nice way of saying that his nervous system collapsed.
MS is a condition where T cells from your immune system get into your spinal column. The T cells mistake nerve cells for viruses, and destroy them. In
the early stages the disease attacks for a matter of hours and then retreats for several months. In the latter stages it attacks continuously.
I've had MS for at least 12 years. In my case it appears to be controlled by medication, and hasn't progressed past the initial stage. A case like
Don's - where it progresses to the point of actually killing you - is exceedingly rare.
I have no facts to back this up, but I imagine he may have decided to kill it before it killed him.

horrible to think MTF. Glad to hear it's in 'remission' for you, man.
RIP DVV: Long May He Loam
Whatever anyone says
it's too little.
"I can't get through this microphone. t's too little. I know what they're hearing, y'see and the thing is that I can't --y'know what I mean? D'ya --
I mean, I can't get it through there y'know like, what I want to get through there."
He said into the microphone.
