Good evening citizens and welcome to a wet 'n' warm Friday night awaaaaay on out in the valley…..

A little after 8:00pm and absolutely hosing down in on and around downtown cave central, while still pushing a toasty 26°C (78.8°F)…..

The hell hole that is Auckland is/are hosting Elton John tonight at Mount Smart Stadium, an open air rugby field…..

40,000 jafas (Just Another F@#king Aucklander) are expected to attend, however the trains aren't running and there's a nationwide
bus driver shortage, so not enough public transport to get the kids to the show, where it has been raining heavily all day,
and when it rains in the hell hole it's torrential tropical type rain…..

Uber are charging $80.00 to $100.00 to make the trip out from the city centre…..

Our man on the ground Joe-90, who arrived by folding bicycle at about 6:00pm reports wide spread flooding and chaos at every turn…..
Our second man on the ground Mister T who is working security, doesn't think the show will go ahead…..

Unlike our weekend, which starts now…..

It pains me to report that the Elton John concert has indeed been cancelled, due to wide spread flooding,
with evacuations in nearby suburbs…..

As we speak Joe-90 is cycling the 15 odd kilometers (9.3 miles) between the stadium and hotel through that sh#t,
on a folding bicycle, of his own design…..God speed Joe-90, God speed…..

Actually (the hell hole that is) Auckland has an excellent city wide cycle lane system, so Joe should be fine…..

'Pandemonium': Elton John concert cancelled after torrential rain

thhti Auckland Reporters
21:01, January the 27th, 2023.

Concertgoers left Mt Smart after the Elton John show was cancelled at the last minute.

The Elton John concert was cancelled less than half an hour before he was set to take to the stage as torrential rain wreaked havoc across thhti Auckland.

Disappointed Elton John fans swarmed to leave Mt Smart stadium after news that the concert was cancelled at the eleventh hour.

"It's far too dangerous", a spokesperson said to the eagerly awaiting crowd.

The announcement was met with screams from the crowd, who were already in place for the concert.

The concert was set to be part of Elton’s ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour.

A statement posted on the concert organisers page read:

“Due to unsafe weather conditions, tonight’s Elton John concert for Friday 27 January will not be proceeding.

”The team is assessing things and will keep everyone across with further updates here. Thank you for your understanding.”

Elton John concert goers leave Mt Smart.

Concert-goer Susannah Shackel traveled from Wellington to attend the concert, and said it was 'appalling' for it to be cancelled so late.

"We left at about six, we spent $140 on an uber. Poor people were getting swept away at Mt Smart...
we get to the gate and they tell us it's cancelled and to go home," she said.

"For the organisers to drag it on, they knew what the weather was like...is appalling.
I'm in the uber now, we've driven through floods getting home.”

Shackel said it was “dangerous”.

“I don't care about the money. The danger that they've put people in...is pretty bad form."

Another concert goer, who did not wish to be named, also questioned why it had taken until everyone was in place
for the event oragnisers to make the call to cancel the show.

Stuff reporter Sapeer Mayron said that Ubers were cancelling on those trying to leave the stadium.

“Everyone is miserable and everyone's soaked,” Mayron said.

Stuff photographer Ricky Wilson, who was also at the concert, said there was “massive delays” for anyone trying to leave
and “severe” traffic congestion on the roads surrounding the stadium.

He said that all roads and footpaths around the venue were flooded.

“It’s pandemonium,” Wilson said.

Reporter Gabrielle McCulloch was picking up her boyfriend’s parents from the cancelled concert when she got caught in the storm.

"My small car was unable to get through. People are wading through the street as they left.

“In some places it's unclear where the road even ends,” McCulloch said.

This is the second time the legendary performer has had to cancel in Tāmaki Makaurau, (Māori for the hell hole that is Auckland)
after he was forced to cut off his show in 2020 after being diagnosed with walking pneumonia.

The singer broke down in tears during his 2020 thhti Auckland show, leaning on the piano before leaving the stage altogether.

When he attempted to start singing his famous song "Daniel", he couldn't talk.

The shows were then postponed until 2023 due to Covid-19.

He is still set to play Mt Smart on Saturday.

Good morning earthlings and welcome to a soggy Saturday morning awaaaaay on out in the valley…..

Joe-90 survived the storm, the standard route to the hotel was impassable,
so he had to detour and deviate his way up down and round and round, getting himself lost a couple of times,
but made it back in pretty good shape. The usually forty to fifty minute trip took Joe-90 on his folding bicycle,
three and a half hours…..

The headlines coming out of Auckland this morning are pretty dire,
Homes damaged, evacuations as flood chaos hammers Auckland…..
Auckland Airport closed, 200 passengers trapped for hours on a plane at the airport…..
Residents report chest high flooding…..

Around midnight they were talking about calling a state of emergency, it didn't happen,
but they'll re-evaluate this morning with the knowledge that another storm is due today…..

But until then…..

Both the hell hole that is Auckland and Waitomo have declared a state of emergency,
around 5,000 properties damaged, with more heavy rain due about now…..

and is now our man on the road, fleeing the hell hole just as fast as the antique Toyota Hi-Ace minibus will go…..

Good evening citizens and welcome to what has been a warm 'n' gray Monday awaaaaay on out in the valley…..

Poor old thhti Auckland's clean-up is now in full swing, the death toll is 4,
one guy got sucked into a storm water drain kayaking the floodwaters…..

There's a massive amount of finger pointing is going on regarding the delay in calling a state of emergency
and the perceived lack of any response on the day from the council…..

We've a history of our mayors strapping on the Hi-Vis 'n' hard hat combo for each and every civil defense event,
then auctioning them off for charity once the dust has settled…..

The hell holes newly minted mayor Wayne Brown's response, by phone to the media was "My role isn’t to rush out there with buckets"…..

There are already calls for his resignation…..

and a cartoon…..

Good evening citizens and welcome to a gray 'n' hot Tuesday awaaaaay on out in the valley…..

Todays cartoon featuring Mayor Wayne Brown…..

For context: "Auckland mayor Wayne Brown texted his friends that he couldn’t play tennis
over the weekend because he had to “deal with media drongos over the flooding”, it’s been reported."

Mayor Brown has been in the job three or four months and has steadfastly avoided the media, having a spokesperson do the talking…..

His predecessor was seldom out of the public eye…..

Now that he's been forced to front the media the reason has become clear, he's a grumpy old man
with zero people skills/media training…..

During his campaign he was angry about the state of the hell hole that is Auckland,
angry about the roads the rail the ports the airport angry angry angry
and, after a game of tennis, he was going to fix it!

He was warning the top council executives if he became mayor they had better resign before he fired them…..
An empty threat, NZ employment law would stand in his worship the mayors way…..

Folks thought this was campaign Wayne, as it turns out, he's just an angry man…..

The prime minister, as a vote of confidence in mayor Wayne, has created the position of a Minister of Auckland…..

The opposition fat cat national party will be screaming in unison on tomorrow's 6:00am news…..

Until then…..

where it's been drizzling all day, it's a humid 25°C (77°F) in on and around downtown cave central…..

After the torturous two hour bumper to bumper crawl out of the city tonight, I need a nap…..

The North got more rain and it isn't over. Thhti Auckland largely escaped the worst of the second storm,
with minimal impact on the already saturated city, with some districts still in disarray…..

As the water is soaking in there have been more landslides destroying a number of homes, around 180 are deemed
too dangerous to enter and a further 700ish accessible but uninhabitable.

The folks that are really freaking out are the insurance companies…..

thhti Auckland has extended their state of emergency for another week and included the Coromandel,
the river of rain that passed through last week stalled and came back around for another go.

The number of uninhabitable homes is up to around 2,000 and counting…..

A lot of displaced folks looking for emergency housing that's scarce as hens teeth,
the whole region has been in a housing shortage for a couple of years.

His worship the mayor champagne Wayne, is still apologising for his perceived lack of visible response to the flooding and delay
in calling a state of emergency.

He's actually doing media standups and may have had a little guidance in the art.....

It's come out that he fired off a text asking all officials to leave any and all comments regarding the flood and flood recovery to the him.....

and todays cartoon.....
