I was looking for Un beau roman. It had been stuck in my head for days.
Why? Does he get so little esteem in France?

No, it's OK to listen to that, it's not really my cup of tea but he does well. It's more something that parents would listen to rather than 22 (soon 23) year old youngsters such as you.:D But I must admit that everytime I hear "Une belle histoire" it remains stuck into my head for days. It's supposed to be on the record you bought, track 5.

polydigm - 3-4-2006 at 01:48

The last non Zappa album I bought was "Breakfast For Dinosaurs" by the Fowler Brothers. I can't say I like it that much. Bruce Fowler's stuff is interesting, but there's too much of that LA sound about the album as a whole and I really don't like the female vocalist. If anybody has any of their other stuff that they can recommend, let me know.

BTW, Gojira1975 is definitely right about amnesia Vivace and that bass line quoted from Holst's Planets on the Aboslutely Free album, not the song.

BBP - 3-4-2006 at 10:26

That's weird... I thought it was at the end of Call Any Vegetable and right before the Invocation and Ritual Dance of the Young Pumpkin. It's rather obvious, in the melody line.

there's also quotes from the firebird, petrouchka, soldier's tale; as well as the supremes and the beach boys. i wrote them all down one afternoon with their times.

That's what I get for relying on my memory. It's actually about 10 seconds into Invocation and Ritual Dance of the Young Pumpkin.

Is it that good, how long does it last?

Pappawas1975 - 6-5-2006 at 17:38

I havent heard it yet, as I pre-ordered it, and it shipped today, as the UK release is Monday. It is 29 minutes long, with four tracks. I can however thoroughly recommend the self titled debut and the Heartache Ep. If you liked Godflesh, or indeed most of Broadricks past, then Jesu will slay you.....I will let you know my thoughts on Silver as and when.....

Pappawas1975 - 10-5-2006 at 19:54

Pre ordered Peeping Tom and the new Celtic Frost album, "Monotheist", which Ive heard a track from, and it sounds fucking great....Back to the old Frost style....wwwwwooooooaaaaarrrrrgggggghhhhh.

Pappawas1975 - 13-5-2006 at 15:21

Absolutely aqua!!Onslaught ruled / rules.....Its a shame though, because Testament are playing London with Onslaught supporting, but we cant go.....Due to ZPZ being on the same day! Not a bad reason to miss it, but wouldve liked to have gone anyway, because Testament are great live, and have never seen Onslaught....

Just picked up Death Angel Act III, great fucking album there too.....

That Death angel record is my favourite, I remember I kept listening to it when it was released, I simply couldn't stop listening to that thing.

Now I'm looking for "History of a time to come" and "Dreamweaver" by Sabbat. I remember they were quite trendy in the early 90's (in france, at least), but for some reason I didn't buy them. I'm getting more and more interested into old things like that, bands like Vio-lence, Mekong delta, Coroner and suchlike.

Pappawas1975 - 14-5-2006 at 10:13

I was exactly the same ! Act III rocked my teenage world for a good while too! We saw them on that tour also, with Forbidden at the Hammersmith Odeon, fucking great show.....I love Frlic Through The Park too, its kind of a tie between the two for me....
As for Sabbat albums, Ive been trying to them on cd also, for a while now, especially Dreamweaver. If you find them anywhere, let me know!Great band...

Was goona post about that actually! No, it isnt worth buying it again, just for that track. Its a cover ( forget who by ) and its not that good, especailly compared to the rest of the album....Unless its been remeastered since its original release, I wouldnt bother buying it again just for the extra track...
Let us know your Zorn thoughts....!!

Hello Skinny is by The Residents, there's a Hello Skinny cover on Videoplasty (Primus video from 1998, has live performances, music videos, backstage footage etc. Thought it was a bit boring, Claypools singing is unintelligible, the sound quality of it is rather poor. Plus he interrupts Too Many Puppies for it)

Thanks for your review!

Zorn is fab!

Just bought 3 classical budget discount CDs: one with lute music, one with Mussorgski's Pictures of an Exhibition (orchestral AND piano versions), and one with pieces by Ravel (Bolero, La Valse, Rhapsodie Espagnole etc).

Pappawas1975 - 16-6-2006 at 09:30

Yes, apparently they are quite a well known musical family. Looking forward to receiving this Ligeti album, what Ive heard sounds great.
As for the ND album aqua, yes, havent heard that in a while and one of the tunes popped into my head again recently, hence the purchase! I wasnt too into it when it came out, as I saw it as a bit of a wagon jumping sell out, what with using Scott Burns and Morrisound and all, but I did enjoy the album itself.
Am also tempted to buy Utopia Banished also, but anything after that I feel ND were / are treading water. I heard a track of their last album, and I did enjoy it, but felt that it was really nothing new, and it didnt compel to investigate further into their post - Utopia catalogue.

Of course I couldn't pay with my bank card and had to go to the bank further down the road, where there was a long queue... But I got it! And I like it!
