...Efteling CD...

Puptent - 7-11-2005 at 20:37

That tune from the Carnaval Festival is still stuck in my head from my last visit to the Efteling.. :duh:

BBP - 7-11-2005 at 20:40

Did you see Loeki? :)

Puptent - 7-11-2005 at 21:00

It's been a few years, they didn't have the Loeki exhibition yet. I should go again, one of these days.

Ah yes.. music:

Tom Waits - Alice

Pappawas1975 - 7-11-2005 at 21:15

24-7 SPYZ - Harder Than You....great album, never had it on cd, but recently I snared it on e-Bay for £1.99.....cant be fucking bad...

James - 7-11-2005 at 22:08

I've stopped liking Loeki... they put him in every section.

Am now listening to some vinyl from Rick van der Linden (from Ekseption).

Puptent - 8-11-2005 at 17:26

Todd Rundgren - A Wizard, A True Star

This is a neat proggy pop album. :)

BBP - 8-11-2005 at 20:47

Todd looks like he needs a bill... :)

I've grabbed a Die Anarchistische Abendunterhaltung tape, their self-titled album.

Puptent - 9-11-2005 at 13:34

I think he was doing tons of mind-altering chemicals when this album was recorded, certainly sounds that way... Cool record, though.

I'm forced to listen to 3FM (National Dutch pop radio) right now. :(

BBP - 9-11-2005 at 15:00

And? Does Claudia De Breij still think she's funny?

Listening along with the telly again, something French.

Puptent - 9-11-2005 at 16:06

I'm not really paying attention to the DJs talking, but I don't think Claudia's very funny at all.

Kaiser Chiefs' "I Predict a riot" is the Megahit this week, Not a bad song, but that means I'm gonna hear it several times a day until Friday. Kill Ugly Radio :(

[Edited on 9-11-2005 by Puptent]

Puptent - 9-11-2005 at 21:19

Having finally escaped commercial radio hell, I'm now gonna play some skronking cozmik jazz shit at earsplitting volumes

Steve Reid - Rhythmatism

This thread is doing wonders for my post count, eh?

Pappawas1975 - 10-11-2005 at 16:37

Am listening to the remixed WOIIFTM, with Wackerman / Barrow overdubs ( the Zappa recs. version with Lumpy Gravy on the same disc )....quite a refreshing listen too, havent heard this version in ages.....

BBP - 10-11-2005 at 17:28

CWRATJ CD, all that discussion about it made me wanna hear it again.

Pappawas1975 - 11-11-2005 at 09:12

Reading that damn Neil Slaven book has made me want to listen to most of Zappas catalogue again.....

BBP - 11-11-2005 at 13:42

That's a nice Red Cross Puptent... Does that pic come from a blogger or something? Those pics have the nasty habit of disappearing...

Back on topic: Am playing Havin' A Bad Day by Dweezil... always good for a laugh...
"You can't imagine what I've been through
Had to walk ten miles just to get to school"

Pappawas1975 - 11-11-2005 at 17:22

On todays menu so far -

JUDAS PRIEST - Unleashed In The East

and

Puptent - 12-11-2005 at 01:07

Judas Priest.. Victim of Changes ..

Pappawas1975 - 12-11-2005 at 14:15

...on random too.....Breaks the flow of the album up, but is fun nonetheless.....

BBP - 12-11-2005 at 14:41

Glenn Miller movie.

Pappawas1975 - 14-11-2005 at 10:28

CHARLES MINGUS - Oh Yeah

...( except my copy has a different cover? )

Puptent - 14-11-2005 at 11:51

Yeah, there is an alternate cover with Mingus sitting at the piano. Pretty interesting that he played piano instead of upright bass on this record. Major talented guy.

Pappawas1975 - 14-11-2005 at 11:53

Thats the one I have, bought it years ago, so guess thats why!...One of my favourite bass players, but, as you say, this album he is all piano and vocals, which he plays amazing also!!!....Definitely a charming album, and one of my favourite Mingus releases!

Puptent - 14-11-2005 at 14:02

Raymond Scott - Reckless Nights and Turkish Twilights

I like cartoon music

Pappawas1975 - 14-11-2005 at 17:23

SO do I actually...Carl Stalling is the man.....

Puptent - 14-11-2005 at 18:47

Yeah, I have both volumes of the Carl Stalling Project.. lots of fun.

NP:

Grachan Moncur III - New Africa, avant-jazz on the French BYG Actuel label. There's some great music on this label, but unfortunately, they are also notorious for ripping of all the musicians who recorded for them.

Pappawas1975 - 18-11-2005 at 16:42

Disc One, on random.....

BBP - 18-11-2005 at 18:49

Anyone notice the link to page 8 didn't appear on the Chit Chat page?

Now playing: Unico van Wassenaer compilation, music from a recently discovered 16th century Dutch composer.

mutronboy - 18-11-2005 at 18:51

still like the early Gong....and Pierre Moerlin's Gong, too

Did you know Pierre died recently?

BBP - 18-11-2005 at 19:00

That cover is way cool! But I don't know Gong, I'm afraid...

Penis - 18-11-2005 at 20:38

Gong is awesome.

Pappawas1975 - 19-11-2005 at 09:50

Some Gong is good, but they do get annoying at times IMO....Camembert is a good one, as is You......

Puptent - 19-11-2005 at 13:19

I have that album cover on a t-shirt, bought it at a Gong gig a few years ago. That concert was something else.. freaks were coming from miles around... Anyway, I like some of their stuff.

mutronboy - 19-11-2005 at 13:52

Yeah, you could probably make a good 'best of' from some of those early albums

I mainly like the funny and Zappa-esque stuff..like 'have a cuppa tea'

There's a good Virgin compilation with the best tracks off 'Expresso II, 'Gazeuse' and 'Shamal' It's called 'Wingful of Eyes'..it's got a bit of Holdsworth & Tommy Bolin on it

Pappawas1975 - 21-11-2005 at 12:19

Yeah, but as an entity, I can take or leave Gong...same with Hawkwind, they have some good stuff, but alot is bloody awful...

Puptent - 22-11-2005 at 11:37

I don't really like Hawkwind either, although I only have the Space Ritual double lp. It's supposed to be their classic but it grates on my nerves after five minutes. They do have tons of albums out there, probably even more than FZ.

Pappawas1975 - 22-11-2005 at 12:31

I know what you mean, "grates" is the perfect word! "Hall Of The Mountain Grill" is a good album though, as it tends to leave all hippy trippy shit at home, and is quite rock based.....

mutronboy - 22-11-2005 at 16:15

My brother's a Hawkwind nut, but most of it bogs me up the wall backwards

I don't mind 'Astounding Sounds' and a bit of 'Hawklords', but most of their stuff is jammy rubbish

I wouldn't put Gong in the same class, though
Some of their stuff is a bit more structured...with some half-decent solos and a bit of humour

Listening to;

BBP - 22-11-2005 at 18:12

Bongo Fury!:guitar:

Pappawas1975 - 23-11-2005 at 11:31

TOD DOCKSTADER - Apocalypse

Puptent - 23-11-2005 at 18:05

Grant Green - Solid.

Actually, I'm transcribing some of his solos on this record. He's one of the easier jazz guitarists to copy and steal licks from. ;)

My Dad's band played with Hawkwind at a bike thing and he said that they were shit compared to what they used to be like.

Pappawas1975 - 24-11-2005 at 12:20

Yeah, they really should have given up years ago......Think they spilt, then reformed, then split....wouldnt surprise me if they were still going, albeit in a lesser form ( ie Dave Brock the only original member )....

Puptent - 24-11-2005 at 12:29

I'm pretty sure they're still around in one form or another, they were on the bill of a stonerrock festival here last year.

Puptent - 24-11-2005 at 14:29

Cannonball Adderley - Fiddler on the Roof

I really don't like musicals at all, but this album is great.

BBP - 24-11-2005 at 17:16

Pappawas1975 - 25-11-2005 at 10:01

VIO-LENCE - Eternal Nightmare

....An absolutely classic Thrash album. Just bee re-released with an extra disc of live stuff.....AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!!!

Pappawas1975 - 25-11-2005 at 16:19

From radical Jewish culture to neo fascist post industrial in the sapce of two albums....pretty fucking good going....

Bar Kokhba Sextet : 50th Birthday Celebration Volume Eleven

Bar Kokhba brings together six core members of the Masada family in a dynamic and versatile ensemble of strings and percussion. All the players were at their best on these nights. At times lush and lyrical, at times driving and powerful, but always filled with the intoxicating joy of music making, this long awaited release is a real treasure. Featuring one set from each of their three nights, the band begins relaxed and laid back and slowly builds to an intense unstoppable powerhouse. This is a rare chance to hear how the band grows over the course of an engagement—a special 3CD package containing some of Zorn's most beautiful and exhilarating music. Sephardic exotica for young moderns.

...followed by....

Von Thronstahl - Bellum, Sacrum Bellum

Puptent - 25-11-2005 at 16:24

Man, I need to get that Bar Kokhba disc as well, I love the other "Bar Kokhba" album. I only have the Electric Masada disc from the 50th birthday series.

Pappawas1975 - 25-11-2005 at 16:27

It is fucking excellent, and its three discs/sets for the price of one! That said, all the 50th B-Day series are excellent....Especially Bar Kokhba, Painkiller and Eye/Zorn Duo....

Kurt Weill - Dreigroschenoper
Conducted by HK Gruber, performed by Ensemble Moderne

with Nina Hagen as an excellent Frau Peachum!

Pappawas1975 - 27-11-2005 at 19:42

Disc Two.....

BBP - 27-11-2005 at 23:33

Your better classical-CD shop should stock it, I've seen it around a lot. Mind you, it's an expensive set. If you just want to buy it for Nina Hagen: her part is very small: one solo song (Die Ballade von der sexuellen Hörigkeit) and a few short solos in the finales. I have another album the Ballade is on which I could send you. Or MP3 it.

Right now Dad's playing with the CD-I again, with Sesame Street: Numbers and Shapes. Never heard so many bad jokes in such a short time space.

Pappawas1975 - 28-11-2005 at 10:36

Sesame Street does rule though, lets face it...

BBP - 28-11-2005 at 13:34

It's fun yeah, really dig Lejo who displays some of his amazing puppetry in the Dutch Sesame Street:

found at http://www.lejo.nu

BBP - 28-11-2005 at 13:35

To stay on topic, I'm listening to a DCC (digital compact cassette, yet another Philips invention that never made it) with highlights of Die Zauberflöte.

Pappawas1975 - 28-11-2005 at 13:37

Lejo looks pretty good, never seen that before.....

BBP - 28-11-2005 at 13:40

I saw him once on a talk show, he was just fantastic!

Pappawas1975 - 28-11-2005 at 13:45

Id never heard of him till now...Is he only on Dutch SS, or the US version too?

BBP - 28-11-2005 at 13:49

Don't know if he's anywhere else, it's a Dutch guy... You can see some footage of his on his site, if you're interested.

Pappawas1975 - 28-11-2005 at 13:51

I will check that out....Im a sucker for silly things like that Im afraid...

BBP - 28-11-2005 at 13:55

That's OK, I love 'em myself... like Donald Duck...

Pappawas1975 - 28-11-2005 at 14:03

Thats what its all about....Why should stuff like that be restricted due to age?....

BBP - 28-11-2005 at 14:11

It's not, that's why it says "all ages"! Whee! :bouncing:

Pappawas1975 - 28-11-2005 at 14:13

An absolute classic....

BBP - 28-11-2005 at 14:13

What's that?

Pappawas1975 - 28-11-2005 at 14:20

Terrorizer - World Downfall....came out on Earache Records, around 1989....Quality grind, featuring David Vincent and Pete Sandoval from Morbid Angel, and Jesse Pintado, who went on to join Napalm Death.....

BBP - 28-11-2005 at 14:23

Napalm Death, Morbid Angel... Sounds great!

Pappawas1975 - 28-11-2005 at 14:25

In a way its like a cross between the two.....Very much in the tradition of politically charged grindcore / early UK hardcore....I thoroughly recommend it!

BBP - 29-11-2005 at 17:16

Dissection: Storm of the Light's Bane.

Pappawas1975 - 30-11-2005 at 14:14

I used to be into Dissection, their demos in particular, in my nerdy death metal tape trading days, but am not too familiar with them nowadays.....That album is hailed as a classic though isnt it?

BBP - 30-11-2005 at 18:36

Not sure... I just loved that album... I believe one of their band members has recently served a jail sentence of 10 years (murder).

DARK FUKKIN ANGEL!!!!

DARKNESS DESCENDS!!!

Puptent - 17-12-2005 at 21:58

I'm tuned in to Ipswitch Community Radio already. I don't know what they're playing right now, sounds like something by the Cinematic Orchestra I think. Pretty cool anyway. :)

Pappawas1975 - 17-12-2005 at 22:03

This guy can play some good tunes....he played So What the other week, but did talk over alot of Miles first theme.....This isnt too bad is it?

Puptent - 17-12-2005 at 22:06

Much better than our local radio station indeed, I think they mostly play music for elderly citizens there.

I'm hearing an instrumental by the Beastie Boys now, I think I have this record as well, somewhere here...

Pappawas1975 - 17-12-2005 at 22:09

Thats it! Thought it rang a bell....! Well, unfortunately for them / us, ICR have again lost out on getting an FM license this year, so its another year of online only radio....

Puptent - 17-12-2005 at 22:14

That's really too bad, mate. Stuff like your radio program deserves wider exposure, me thinks. Would be cool if you still could get the archiving thing, though...

Friends of mine had a hiphop program on a local station nearby, but they got booted off for cursing on the air too much.. heheh.

I thought your show would start already, forgot you guys in the UK are one hour behind our local time. Well, I don't mind listening to Pink Floyd either. :)

[Edited on 17-12-2005 by Puptent]

Pappawas1975 - 17-12-2005 at 22:16

The archiving is underway now so Im told, and the site is getting a revamp.....My thoughts exactly pup, its a great place to be, because everyone involved is just 100% music. Ive met people there who I can chat to for hours who are into similar stuff as me, and have been put onto alot of great new stuff too, which is what its all about.

Pappawas1975 - 17-12-2005 at 22:33
