He had a Bob Ross haircut when I saw him live in 1998; also he had this small beard (only on his chin, but about a fist long) and he kept on plucking
it...aquagoat - 11-6-2006 at 08:35
Well, I'm listening to Frizzle Fry right now. And if you think about it carefully, Les doesn't REALLY sing on this, it's more like
reciting lyrics than really singing them. More similar to Shabba Ranks than to Chris Cornell.BBP - 11-6-2006 at 17:38
Maybe... Especially in Speghetti Western I think you're right. In later versions (say on the DVD Hallucino-Genetics which has the entire Frizzle
Fry album) Les is singing, and that's not always a good thing.
That's a poor DVD anyway; the music is OK, but the video is poorly directed; most of it is dark, and all filming is done from quite a distance.aquagoat - 11-6-2006 at 19:31
Have you downloaded one of their shows in mp3 available at their site ?BBP - 12-6-2006 at 11:13
Nope. I'll just wait till they come to Netherlands again.
Though on their original web-site I once downloaded a short one-minute MP3 where the band is playing Frizzle Fry, then someone spits on Les, and Les
then gets really very mad. Quite funny...punknaynowned - 3-9-2006 at 12:53

what else am I missing?aquagoat - 3-9-2006 at 19:29
"Tales from the punchbowl" and "The antipop". even though BBP will say you should get the "Brown album".BBP - 3-9-2006 at 22:07
Antipop is imo their worst album. On the PrawnSong forum it got a lot of negative heat, most often over monotonous drumming and Fred Durst.
You're missing Pork Soda... got some awesome songs! My Name Is Mud is an absolute classic and the only Primus video I ever saw on MTV.
There's a new Primus release said to be coming late this year... Unfortunately the odds are it will be a best of album.scallopino - 4-9-2006 at 08:57
I love the production on that album. The drums sound unbelievable. My favourite track has to be "welcome to this world".
and i was disappointed in antipop as well, but the tom waits thing at the end is great.BBP - 4-9-2006 at 12:47
Yeah Antipop has some good songs, like Eclectic Electric and Heckler... but the production is horrible, not to mention the drums... It also has the
Worst Primus Song, Momma Didn't Raise No Fool.
Welcome to this World is the best Primus song I can think of to use to introduce someone to them. It's such a neat song!scallopino - 6-9-2006 at 09:48
i love how it explodes into the chorus, and Les goes "huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup" or something in the break.BBP - 9-9-2006 at 20:55

Ha ha! What do you think of it all?BBP - 11-9-2006 at 13:27
I'm mildly depressed. I knew in January that there was a new album coming up in the autumn, and to find out it'll just be a compilation
(with great packaging, have to admit that), well, that sucks. After Claypools untastic solo release, a book and a movie out, production on Gabby Lala
and stuff, I'm losing my faith in the guy. Especially after reading that interview with him in BPM.Puptent - 11-9-2006 at 19:21
My friend played me the latest Claypool album this weekend. Personally, I kind of liked it so I might pick it up eventually. Nothing groundbreaking,
but pretty okay in my book. Greatest Hits albums always smack of 'contractual obligation' type stuff, though... no need to pick that one up
for me.
It is kind of disappointing that either Les or Primus aren't coming to Europe. Guess they can fill much larger venues over in the US,
unfortunately for us European people.BBP - 11-9-2006 at 20:15
You want to have my Claypool copy?
Did you notice on Rumble of the Diesel there's a very annoying peep on the right channel?Puptent - 11-9-2006 at 20:34
Thanks a lot for the offer (), but honestly... you might want to think twice before getting rid of it. It might grow on you eventually, y'know?
Didn't really notice that channel stuff, but it was only playing in the background so I wasn't really paying close attention.BBP - 12-9-2006 at 18:08
Maybe... There's one song called One Better that I like, until the solo sax, then I'm tired of it. The rest is a bit of a bore.
It's really interesting how that buzztone on Diesel got on the album, it's so :swear:ing annoying. Since it's only on the right channel
and occasionally disappears I guess it has to do with Les's partial deafness. So I'm wondering if it's elsewhere on it.BBP - 25-10-2006 at 14:58
Got the Blame It On The Fish DVD. Since I'm no longer going to the Primus forum I'll post my ramblings here.
BIOTF is an interesting documentary on the Primus Tour The Fromage from 2003. It has some neat music scenes, interview segments and
behind-the-scenes-filming. The best part is still a part of the bonus, the Primus 2065 documentary. It's supposed to have been compiled in 2065.
For some segments, Les in make-up looking 102 is being interviewed. Most intriguing.
I also found Zingers in a store. I had a good look at it. It didn't have the Cheddar-cheese artwork from the pictures I knew. It was just yellow
with cheese-like holes, with band name and compilation name in small print in a corner, plain yellow back without track titles, booklet without
artwork, dull introductory text by some unknown guy...
Considering that apart from Shake Hands With Beef, every version is in "original" state (the way they appear on the respective CDs), the
artwork was too ugly for Primus standards (no clay statue?!) and it cost E 21.99 (= $26,40) I left it there.scallopino - 25-10-2006 at 15:19
Yes yes Bonny, it sounds less (Les?) than impressive. I don't believe i've ever heard Les talk in a regular voice. What does he sound like?
Like i'd expect?
I've been checking out all their mtv videos on Youtube. My current favourite (apart from the ones i'd already seen, like Tommy the Cat and
Wynona) is Mr. Krinkle, where Les is in some kind of a rabbit-pig suit with all jugglers and contortionists and whatnot behind him. I also like John
the Fisherman where he has hair like Kid Rock, and Ler looks like someone from Sonic Youth.BBP - 25-10-2006 at 19:11
Ooooh... Mr Krinkle is sooo coool! All their videos (with perhaps the exceptions DMV and Laquerhead) are great!
Haven't you got Animals Should Not Like To Act Like People DVD/CD yet? It's a nice EP and a fantastic DVD with ALL videos (including The
Devil Went Down To Georgia), some have commentary, plus several live songs, rarities (like Primate footage) and oddities. Like Kirk Hammett getting a
tongue piercing.:P And even some Alice In Chains. I spent many a good hour enjoying it, there's so much cool stuff on it!
Les's regular voice sounds like much his singing voice, yet lower and more in tune. He'd make a fantastic cartoon voice-actor.
Do you have that bootleg fragment where somebody spits on Les during Frizzle Fry, where Les gets mad?scallopino - 27-10-2006 at 04:37
No, i don't have any of the dvds yet, or bootlegs. What happened when Les got mad? I wouldn't wanna mess with the guy because he must have
real strong hands. And if you've gone to a concert, why the fuck would you spit on the performer? Maybe Les needs someone like "Dong"!DED - 27-10-2006 at 13:51

Ehhmmm...
One of the first times I remember hearing Primus was in 1996 when I was playing Leisure Suit Larry 7, and I got confused because Larry Laffer sounded
a lot like Les. But I must have said that before BBP - 20-11-2006 at 20:39
Today I set all my pride to the side and bought the Primus best of. The record store had 2 disks in the Primus-section, one was the one at 20,99 I
found earlier, and the other was in the original wrapping, at 14 E. I got that one...
When I handed it to the sales guy, he was telling me how horrible that packaging was and how impossible it was to put it back once it had been
removed. It's a tight plastic wrap that looks a bit like a Cheddar wrap, saying how healthy it is and stuff. It only fits just. So I don't
think I'll be listening to Zingers for a while because I need to remove the wrap, but leave it intact.DED - 21-11-2006 at 20:16
I'm familiair with that dillema.
Chrome tapes are not made any longer
I have a few new ones.
If I unwrap them, they are used
If I don't unwrap them they say NEW, but than I can not use them.
:crying:BBP - 22-11-2006 at 12:05
Nasty dilemma... yet a bit different. Zingers is like when you're camping and leaving the site (and getting out there before noon) whilst you
have a tent that you need to roll up very tight, then it doesn't fit into the designated bag and you have to roll it up again, but tighter...DrIncluding - 17-10-2007 at 21:21

Oh well better late then never.
Yea I told Bonny the story of how I almost joined Primus except I have never had a drivers license and was about two years too young to join the band
anyway but Les got my name from the drum guy at the music store. He had heard about me and wanted to talk. we chatted for a while but being that I
was only a teenager and didn't drive pretty much did me in for that. the funny thing is they used to play at all the same clubs I did a few
years later in SF and I had never once seen them. Strange how our paths never crossed again but then when I heard the name later in the 90's and
heard Les's voice I remembered that band I almost joined from El Sobrante, CA which was two towns over from mine. I think the area they were
from made me not really want to join though.
Damn if only I would have hooked up with them at the night break when Brain left the band and I could have died of alcohol poisoning or some other
party related misshap. BBP - 13-11-2008 at 13:51

We were playing "punk" jazz very similar to what primus does except we had a shitty singer and then the new guy who was OK decided he wanted
to play rockabilly shit like Smelvis Parsley so I quit. I'll have to get some up on my server. we did some pretty cool stuff some times.Huck_Phlem - 17-11-2008 at 08:34
awww fuck. I'll make a page. this was some cool stuff here. kind of an "out jazz" goes to the mosh pit thingy. I call it Jazz riot
because that is basically what I did. I forced them to play this and they went along with it.

Les's side project. Describes her music as "a cross between Yoko Ono and Hello Kitty", which regretfully is accurate. May have been
nice if she kept her mouth shut.jabba - 11-12-2008 at 15:40
Did you see Electric Apricot? She totally plays a "Yoko " character in that. But, I agree, I'm sick of her. The first time I saw her
was in 04 when she opened for Col Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains and I thought she was interesting. Then she became part of the "Fancy
Band" and they tried to use her instead of a guitar player, that was annoying. And the last time I saw them he didn't even have Mike Dillon
or Skerit, just Gabby!!BBP - 11-12-2008 at 16:03
Stuff like Electric Apricot is not really widely on sale or up for viewing around here.
For some strange reason I'm not much interested in Les's work nowadays. Don't know how long it'll take for him to find out that
his solo albums all suck.jabba - 11-12-2008 at 16:18

I was only lucky once. That was July 1st, 1998, with Brain as drummer. It was the first concert where I paid to get in, all the rest was freebie or
dragalong. That was one of their final concerts on their last tour of Europe. Although they scheduled an Antipop tour, they never came back.
I have Sausage and Holy Mackerel. Sausage is nice, but Mackerel gets annoying by the end of pretty much every song. They all last too long, which
coincidently also my issue with Of Whales And Woe. Frog Brigade is something I only found in store at roughly 30 dollars, so I never bought that. It
got very bad reviews at the Primus community, which was surprisingly unanimous at many best-and-worst-album and best-and-worst-song discussions.jabba - 11-12-2008 at 20:33

Unfortunately all Paradiso tickets have been sold out, bought up by nasty dealers.
No Primus for me... :crying:
So what does that mean? (note: I know very little about concert ticket sales)
It sounds like what happens here in the states: Ticket brokers buy large numbers of the best seats to sell at inflated prices, leaving the rest of the
sub-par seating to be bought by fans. Thus it's technically "sold out" but in the end the brokers might not sell out all of what they
have.polydigm - 12-2-2011 at 07:20

As you may have heard, my sister and I had all the luck in the world in purchasing 2 tickets for Primus at the original price!
The concert was today, and we're totally psyched!! It was fan-tas-ti-co!!
The start-up act, Hot Head Show, is an entree worthy of Primus. An English power group, their music is reminiscent of Primus and Beefheart, with funk,
rock, and many tempo changes. Unfortunately all band members are shy. The guitarist and bassist wore caps over their faces and barely looked at the
audience. Also, the guitarist talked way too fast.
And then, Primus! With Jay Lane! At the background, two inflatable dolls of astronauts were placed, with right arm raised like a Chinese good luck
cat. Videos were shown in the space helmets during the concert.
Sis and I were at the dead front left, directly in front of Ler!
The band opened powerfully with Groundhog's Day. After that:
a new song off Green Naugahyde, then
Those Damned Blue Collar Tweekers,
a cover of Pink Floyd's In The Flesh,
Here Come The Bastards
New song, a bit bluesy
Over The Falls, played on a 4-string. During this Les announced Ler sweetly, and Ler proceeded with a smashing solo.
New song, I frequently heard the words "Step aside", leading me to think it was the ballad of Bodacious, but there was no Antipop tonight
Mr Knowitall
A solo from Ler. While Ler changed guitar after each song, Les didn't switch bass until now: he came back with his wonderful electric upright.
New song, managed to make out "market place"
Les went away for a bit and came back in a pig mask, playing another new song with the upright. I made out "lost the plot".
Came on with the 6-string fretted: Jerry Was A Racecar Driver with Les imitating Porky the Pig on Dog Will Hunt
A new song
Bob
Tommy the Cat Brown Style
Frizzle Fry
Noticeable instances:
"Hey, you're the guy I hear all the time who sounds like Cookie Monster! Ah, you know Cookie Monster here. I can't do Cookie Monster,
it's not my style."
"I heard someone say "Shake Hands With Beef". We don't play that anymore. We now play Shake Hands With Pineapple Chicken, what
with all the cook shows on TV nowadays (last bit I'm not too sure of since people were applauding)
"I was sitting earlier with Ler this day thinking what music will we bring to the good people of Eindhoven. Ler said we need to bend their minds.
You see he's a very cerebral fellow."
After the show, the roadie tossed the guitar picks into the audience. He tossed one at me and Icaught it! It's a fresh one, clearly showing the
phrase "Salami Tits". He later tossed one at my sister, and it went right in her cleavage.
(I'm very happy for her. She once got a pick tossed at her after a Slayer concert, but the bouncer gave it to the girl next to her. My sister was
a massive Slayer fan and cycled over 30 km to see them, she felt so bad over that.)

And if they don't come near you, you're welcome to stay over here.aquagoat - 23-11-2011 at 19:04
