You must be building up quite an impressive collection..

punknaynowned - 29-11-2006 at 04:41

I know next to nothin about classical music. I can recognise the names and sometimes identify a composer by a tune or a refrain but that's all. I'm really no help here

My classical collection catalog has 44 pages. My pop CD catalog, including all my Zappa (and Primus and DAAU) has 5. I don't know where to put my CDs anymore!

Thanx!
I mean, I think it's really wild that we all can sit and chat about whatever from opposite ends of the globe!!!!! It's crazy radical!
:shy: I feel like I should pay admission or something.
I want to invite you all over to my house and make some tea or coffee, pull up some chairs and invite everyone to have a seat and make yerselves comfortable. make small talk or play cards and then make dinner for everybody.

I'm having error messages when I'm loading that page, unfortunately.

Anyway I'm at war with MySpace after they deleted one man of my Friends-list and I couldn't message him because it gave me error pages all the time.
Also we had to delete a Trojan Horse virus two days ago which I got from visiting a friend's profile.

Ah, that's a shame. Did the trojan cause any damage?

Fingers crossed... Don't think it did. I have a cold now, but that's probably unrelated.

BBP - 16-12-2006 at 14:05

Some more for that one college class:

Mendelssohn - Midsummernight's dream op 21 and 61
Sibelius - Concerto for violin op 47 + the Swan from Tuonela op 22/3

and a beautifully packaged version of Machaut - Messe de Notre Dame in 9 parts. I got one of them for free because it was running late, very friendly sales person.

One house is hardly enough to house our collections.
Both of the houses opposite to ours are for rent now.
Maybe it is not funny to live with a view on our house, loaded with equipment and records.

Pappawas1975 - 18-12-2006 at 20:58

I saw Dalek with Fantomas last year, and enjoyed them. What are the albums like aqua?

aquagoat - 19-12-2006 at 09:06

they're great, in my opinion.

Absence is very noisy and cold. It reminds me of Godflesh but in a rap format.
From filthy tongue of gods and griots is a bit different, it's calmer and a bit brighter than Absence but remains quite different from you usual hiphop band.

very good albums, I recommend buying Absence first, I think you won't regret it.

Pappawas1975 - 21-12-2006 at 13:25

Cool, I might just do that!

Recent purchases -
BOLT THROWER - Warmaster
CATHEDRAL - The Carnival Bizarre
UNSEEN TERROR - Human Error

( Earache have a Xmas sale on!!! )

also

DWIGHT TRIBLE - The Living Water

scallopino - 27-12-2006 at 13:09

yeah How Could I Be Such A Fool sounds amazing on the original Freak Out. In fact, out of all the albums i reckon Freak Out sounds the best production wise. I suppose it's because he got a whole lot of money to do that one didn't he?

BBP - 27-12-2006 at 16:46

I wouldn't know that... sonically my favourites are the digital ones, especially CP3. Like he knew it was going to be his last chance to do it properly.

Somehow the earlier FZ albums (like FO and Absolutely Free) all sound like they came out of a can to me...

Pappawas1975 - 4-1-2007 at 11:36

BBP - 4-1-2007 at 13:41

That's great! How is it?

Pappawas1975 - 6-1-2007 at 11:10

Its really wonderful actually! It truly is an "audio documentary", without wanting to sound tacky. It seems to make Freak Out! totally complete. I do feel kinda miffed buying the little MOFO as well as the 4cd, cos I was under the impression the 2 cd contained stuff not on the 4 cd, and vice versa.....Ho Hum. I wouldve no doubt ended up buying it anyway!

Big MOFO is worth getting though. Disc 3 is maybe the highlight, lotsa unreleased things going on there. The basic tracks version of the tunes are great too tough, as it enables the listener to really "get inside" the tracks, if that makes sense? Even the interview stuff is good. Its like they trawled the vault for any FO! related stuff and through it on.

TOTALLY RECOMMENDED.

BBP - 7-1-2007 at 14:23

aquagoat - 12-5-2007 at 10:20

cool !!!!!!!!!!!

BBP - 14-5-2007 at 23:24

My most recent purchase is called "Theme From Jurassic Park; The Very Best Of Fantasy Movies". After some listening I'm not yet entirely sure whether they're the original recordings with crappy sound, or some bloke with a keyboard.

BBP - 2-7-2007 at 08:48

Jimi Hendrix - The Cry Of Love.

punknaynowned - 3-7-2007 at 03:25

that's a great set!

Belly Button Window is a an all time fave :)

aquagoat - 3-7-2007 at 07:52

it's one of mine too. :)

BBP - 4-7-2007 at 08:43

Yeah it's pretty good!
They had a Rush album second-hand elsewhere (actually they had 2, but I have Moving Pictures) and didn't buy it because it was an 80s album. How bad was that decision?

aquagoat - 5-7-2007 at 07:43

I absolutely can't tell since I don't know much about Rush, Gojira would help you but we don't see him around much lately. I know some of their '80s records are good but I don't know which ones.

BBP - 5-7-2007 at 20:05

Goj's still on the Zappa.com forum occasionally... he's probably too busy now to come here often. Shame how this place is running empty.:-(

punknaynowned - 8-7-2007 at 06:51

Agreed.
I saw Rush in '85. Blue Oyster Cult opened for them!!
It was the Power Windows tour. Dunno whatever happened to the tshirt I had. Couldn't tell ya if the album was any good. Only ever listened to the early stuff thru Farewell to Kings, Moving Pictures, Exit Stage Left. Loved that stuff back then. Haven't listened to any of it in 20 years. I liked Peart's lyrics a lot, the musicianship was always superb, never did like Lee's singing style.
guess I'm not much help. what album was it you saw?

BBP - 9-7-2007 at 19:17

Hmmm... checking Wikipedia...
A can't recall the title, only vague details of the cover, and the year I thought was 1986. The closest match to all this was Presto. But I could swear it was a dragon on the cover.

aquagoat - 10-7-2007 at 08:33

the only Rush album I know with a dragon on the cover is this:

BBP - 10-7-2007 at 09:39

It was definitely black & white... Maybe I love dragons too much, I start to see them everywhere... (pictures soon)

aquagoat - 10-7-2007 at 19:21

if it's black and white it's either Presto:

or Permanent waves:

both are from the 80's

BBP - 11-7-2007 at 14:35

Probably Presto...

aquagoat - 11-7-2007 at 18:37

as much as I can remember Presto is a good album, not essential but you wouldn't waste your money if you bought it.

BBP - 12-7-2007 at 14:28

At 3 euros probably not! :)

BBP - 14-7-2007 at 14:36

At the same price I got Manowar - Fighting the World and Faith No More: King for a day, fool for a lifetime.

aquagoat - 15-7-2007 at 12:12

BBP - 15-7-2007 at 16:44

Today DED and I went to a flea market where somebody put a large box filled with records for free! Got some Berlioz, some more stuff... not sure what...

I apologise for that, children limit you ronline time! As for Rush, I LOVE their 80s / tackier stuff, but I do realise its a personal thing. My best advice would be to just give it a try. I would recommend Hold Your Fire, Grace Under Pressure for starters, and maybe Presto after youve gotten in a little further, as it is different to the others.....Great musicianship if anything, on all the 80s albums!!!

Yes visit more often,
I like to read more, is good for my language.

punknaynowned - 17-10-2007 at 02:48

the "token of my extreme", the 'new' recording
is 2:30 long and full of fart noises:puzzled:

gratuitously stupid to me.

stevies spanking is artificially inflated

the sound is good overall. crisp versions of dog breath/uncle meat. I love it anyway.

a special stinkfoot. Frank's voice is part of the time fed thru some effects pedal that makes the output sound like square waves, or there is extra crunchy reverb directly on his voice.

easy meat starts out the same and gets really great with the solo, especially with the synth lead up and 'outro' that goes on for awhile. Nice.

an extra short montana as told elsewhere, but then

the rest of the songs are extra long. the last four songs take up 37 minutes!!!!

the solo here in Inca Roads is extra special too and is closer to how Dweezil does Frank . . .

Room Service might be my favorite, just because it acts like it's not part of the regularly scheduled events

cosmik debris has a nice solo, real nice

and florentine pogen is the best available version. I prefer it to the one on One Size Fits All.

On a scale of one to ten, and understand this is a zappa scale (Nothing is gonna be less than 5 and some may get more than 10 . . .)
I'd give it a 6.5.

BBP - 17-10-2007 at 09:04

Is that the ZPZ DVD? Doesn't sound like it's worth the price they charge... I'll wait till it goes down. Like on the Imaginary Diseases which I found at half-price already.

My latest musical purchases were 2 for my collection of Danse Macabre renditions. I should keep my classical music list more up to date, but now it's on the wrong PC.

punknaynowned - 17-10-2007 at 10:45

oh no, that's my more-real review for the dub room special cd following from the posts above it,

the zpz dvd I am very excited for. I expect them to see it when I go see them again in November. Of course it means I have to get the dvd player fixed . . .

technically the lastest cd's I purchased

sorry they're so big and thanx fer the help
