Would've been a good guess... but I was more for the "proposal" part.

BBP - 19-4-2008 at 18:58

Poly's right! It's "Tell me you love me"!

I love that song.

polydigm - 19-4-2008 at 23:53

The reason I picked "Why Don't You Like Me" is because you said "Why Don'cha Do Me Right" was close. Then you said "Why Don't You Like Me" was close but there were no other "Why Don't You" songs left and then it twigged that "Why Don't You Like Me" is really "Tell Me You Love Me". So, even though it led me to the answer, how is "Why Don'cha Do Me Right" close?

It's neither of those. I'm not giving any clues. It already looks too easy to me and I want to make it last if I can.

You go right ahead and come out with it. I don't want it to last just because you're avoiding answering.

...I'd never have thought of a "large wave" as "freak"...

punknaynowned - 24-4-2008 at 19:23

I was trying to go there but the closest I got was Carolina Hardcore Ecstasy, thinking maybe the car was a brand maybe called 'Carolina', as a guess. and that wave was maybe a typhoon or hurricane but really hardcore.

The term "Freak Wave" is in common usage. That is what it was called in the news article that I got the picture from.

Okay. Here is a merciful one.

 You fell for it! It's not Zoot Allures, it's my little used-before trick to change location names into a different Z-song title.

Take another look at that hint!

scallopino - 28-4-2008 at 09:54

Chunga's Revenge?

BBP - 28-4-2008 at 11:57

YES!! :bouncing:

polydigm - 28-4-2008 at 12:14

Now that is really stretching it.

BBP - 28-4-2008 at 14:59

The album is called chunga-changa. The upside-down h stands for ch (Chaikovsky), the Y for oo, the H for n, and the hook thing for g.

Yes, I did actually figure out the chunga-changa thing, but I thought that was just a coincidence, or I had it wrong or something because the cover as a whole didn't seem to have anything to do with Chunga's Revenge.

Oh well, who's going next?

punknaynowned - 30-4-2008 at 05:16

why not do it backwards?
Put up a song title and we all post pictures to match it?

scallopino - 30-4-2008 at 10:18

That's a great idea. Can there be a winner though?

polydigm - 30-4-2008 at 14:57

Quote:

It's an interesting idea, but personally I put a fair bit of work into finding pictures appropriate for puzzles. I just wouldn't have the same motivation with everyone knowing the title before hand, because the need to find something that will challenge people is gone. I also like the challenge of trying to guess what someone else's concoction might mean.

This is my favourite thread and I find it quite refreshing after spending time at the zappa.com forum which has just gone really bad lately. I find myself hoping that Zombie would just walk under a bus and get it over with.

BBP - 30-4-2008 at 15:03

We could start a Z-Title In Pictures there of course!

...I made one on a private forum, run by a Zapp-forumer. Unfortunately it's like when you triple the amount of participants, you also triple the amount of questions asked at the same time. Chaos erupts! And when that happens, it never takes long for a thread to die.

BBP - 1-5-2008 at 16:48

This one was unleashed at the Unmoderated forum by Porksword. I love it so much I'll share it with you.

punknaynowned - 1-5-2008 at 18:19

Put a Motor IN U2's Shelf!
:P

Seriously, I sure don't want to take anyone's fun away.

It just seemed to me that it was much more obvious to the poster that their chosen pictures matched the title in their head
and much less obvious to everyone else, except for a couple 'easy' exceptions.
Doing it backwards WOULD take away the competition and winner aspect,
BUT as I'm realising that everyone's visual aesthetic seems different and therefore the subjective attachments to the ideas that the title conjures for the poster will be different, have been different.

So doing it backwards, title first, and each of us come up with our own set of pictures (same amount of looking, I would figure) would , instead highlight our interesting subjective aesthetic differences, rather than 'How did you come up with that, from THAT' etc.

Just an idea.

These ideas do not need to be mutually exclusive, all you have to do is start another thread with an appropriate title and we can do both.

punknaynowned - 2-5-2008 at 05:43

I got it!
Literally:
Lemmy Teak U2 Canyon Beech!

ingenious!

of course, poly

BBP - 2-5-2008 at 08:38

Punky's won!

scallopino - 2-5-2008 at 09:15

Good one Bonny.

punknaynowned - 2-5-2008 at 17:56

whoever wants to put a picture up first should do that.
I can't do it today :freak:
have at it!
(:

BBP - 3-5-2008 at 08:46

No location searching, please...

scallopino - 4-5-2008 at 14:09

The first picture represents every wide-eyed young music group in history and the second represents their record companies.

BBP - 4-5-2008 at 14:27

Heh!

Could find a better pic for the last one... it's a 3-word-title, the middle one is in this phrase.

polydigm - 7-5-2008 at 22:45

Quote:

There are some particularly obvious ones, so it makes sense you tried to find one that isn't.

[Edited on 7/5/2008 by polydigm]

polydigm - 7-5-2008 at 22:45

This thread seems to be languishing for some reason or other. As I've already admitted to Bonny privately I always check the image names as a matter of course and in this case they do directly give the answer, so if you haven't looked already and you want a challenge then try not to look.

So, is everyone finding this too difficult, or are you all just too busy? This forum seems a bit quiet at the moment. Anyway, keep working on Bonny's latest challenge, but here's an easy one to try at the same time.

[Edited on 7/5/2008 by polydigm]

scallopino - 8-5-2008 at 14:49

Yeah, I accidentally looked at the names of the pictures as well before I saw the suggestion to not look. That's why I didn't guess. If I didn't look I'd have no idea.

I haven't been coming here everyday because I've been sort of snowed under with uni lately.

BBP - 8-5-2008 at 20:20

Oh dear... that's very important stuff! Do your best!
(I'm really feeling the strain of taking too long with my studies at the moment, so...)

polydigm - 8-5-2008 at 21:49

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to be patient.

punknaynowned - 9-5-2008 at 04:22

I cheated too Bonny. I'm sorry.
Polyd!
is it The Secret Carlos Santana Chord Progression?

BBP - 9-5-2008 at 08:46

"Today Jimi Hendrix will be playing the part of Carlos Santana..."

OK, now all contestants have cheated, let's close my entry then... it was indeed Beat The Reaper.

BBP - 9-5-2008 at 09:07

Polyd: Stinkfoot or Sinister Footwear?
Bonny: Tinseltown Rebellion (as that is Green Day -- the best example of that I could think of)

BBP - 9-5-2008 at 20:02

GREEN DAY??!! Wash your mouth! No, these people performed in Eindhoven on April 10.

punknaynowned - 10-5-2008 at 06:05

ok, but I don't know of a zappa songtitle that goes with The President's Of the United States of America, besides "Millions of Peaches, Peaches For Free"
-- that's not Green Day?

You changed the picture, Bonny, so now I'm trying to think of what they had in common.

I changed the picture because the first one wouldn't show up anymore, it is still Presidents of the USA.

:(

polydigm - 10-5-2008 at 21:51

Bonny, Plastic People?

Punky, it's a Wah Wah pedal and a Jimi Hendrix model in particular. What kind of noise did he used to make with it?

punknaynowned - 11-5-2008 at 05:13

Fire, Purple Haze, the screaming sounds of airplane motors in the sky, machine gun
and Franki? he could do that too but did a lot of other things too it seems with a whawah pedal
I've read the stories that Frank introduced the wahwah to Hendrix,
does it sound like the noise of the words t'mershi duween to you?

I'm not trying to be thick:drool:

polydigm - 11-5-2008 at 09:42

I thought I had already given it away, but here's some more. This comes from an interview with Frank where he describes how he used a Wah Wah pedal as a frequency filter to make slight adjustments to the tone in contrast to others like Hendrix who just rhythmically went up and down with it. That should have given it away.

BBP - 11-5-2008 at 10:02

You can feed back the fuzz tone from your wah wah... Is it We're Turning Again?

polydigm - 11-5-2008 at 14:06

things as far afield as
Our Bizarre Relationship
Here Comes the Gear, Lads
Stick It Out
and The Jimmy Carl Black Philosphy Lesson
have all come to mind and been discarded polydigm.
This is my final guess:
Excentrifugal Forz

Geoge Harrison even has a song I Don't Need Your WahWah that has been going thru my head all week thanks to this :offtopic:;-)

and Bonny, TPOTUSA played here in the last week and one of the dudes from the band came into the store with his gf. I wasn't there but a buddy said he almost got goofy (: but managaed to maintain himself.

polydigm - 12-5-2008 at 12:51

Bonny, you haven't answered my question. Is it Plastic People? [Ladies and Gentlemen, the president of the United States]

Everyone, it's the way in which Zappa referred to the sound that Jimmy Hendrix made with a Wah Wah pedal.

BBP - 13-5-2008 at 11:07

You didn't ask... No it's not Plastic People. Nice guess though.

[Edited on 13-5-08 by BBP]

No. The sound, in words, is the title of the song.
