Nothing much exciting. Tomorrow's the Dutch national holiday and I keep forgetting about it.

That sucks I did not know it was put down, very sad...:(

I surfed with a lot of marine mammals and never saw a seal or sea lion attack anyone...

Sometimes they try to get on the board to nap (true story more than once)...

I saw a dolphin bump a guy off his board surfing to close to her pups, we warned him but he did not listen...:freak:

Unfortunately my father's oldest brother passed away earlier today. We're struggling with wrapping our heads around it.

Eddie RUKidding - 27-4-2025 at 21:12

sorry to hear

Plook - 27-4-2025 at 22:15

So sorry to hear Bonny, you have mine and Kats condolences.

BBP - 28-4-2025 at 21:36

Thanks guys, it's a bit unreal, especially with how calm my father is being. Normally he's very emotional. We have ran to him thinking he cut off his finger or something if he exclaimed one of his dramatic antics from the kitchen only to find he did something like drop a potato on the floor. I've never known him to be this subdued. The most emotion I saw yesterday was when a spider came down and walked into the frying pan as he was about to start cooking.

Hope you are having a great vacation!

My unexpectedly long and black-laced vacation is now on the last day. This weekend I stayed with my boyfriend as we had scheduled, I went home on Monday and yesterday, Dad and I took to The Hague to attend our uncle's service. It took a lot of energy from us.

Yeah that could be ugly- in fact I don't think Americans better leave home at present for anywhere O/S lol

Plook - 9-5-2025 at 04:54

We went out to dinner last night at the The Galley an excellent seafood restaurant and had a wonderful meal.

We got up this morning and I went out to a local Expresso Coffee shop and got us a couple of really good cups of coffee and while Kat was getting gussied-up I ran to the beach to check out the surf.

When I came back Kat tells me she lost her wallet when we were out...

She called the Police in case someone turned it in and the banks to shut her cards off, she had $1000 in her bill fold.

The restaurant did not open until 11am and we had to drive to Hearst Castle for a tour we had reservations for so she called and left a message.

About 10:30am they called and said someone turned it in we went and picked it up and left a $100 reward, everything was still in it including the cash.

Very reassuring...:)

Eddie RUKidding - 9-5-2025 at 06:20

very lucky :bald:

BBP - 9-5-2025 at 23:18

Aww that's great, love to hear there was a good Samaritan.

Plook - 10-5-2025 at 15:41

We have a seagull (same one) that shows up every morning and evening for snacks, Kat named him Kevin...he's a good boy...;)

polydigm - 12-5-2025 at 03:03

Sorry I haven’t checked in for a while. We’ve been really busy with our new place. Condolences Bonny. The wife of one of my French cousins recently lost her brother and he is in his seventh month of recovering from Guillain-Barré syndrome, so she’s pretty exhausted. His remaining struggle is getting walking again. We’re having a holiday in France right now, in our motorhome, visiting family. It’s quite an emotional visit, but it’s good to see my cousins again.

Hope you’re having a good holiday Plook. Great story about the wallet. Reminds one that humans are not all bad.

Plook - 12-5-2025 at 16:55

Good to hear from you Poly, we need some pictures in France and of the motorhome!

Plook - 14-5-2025 at 04:14

We made it home!

Plook - 14-5-2025 at 19:26

I got back and I got sacked at work after 14 years, unbelievable...:(

Eddie RUKidding - 21-5-2025 at 21:53

yep

BBP - 22-5-2025 at 20:01

Yeah the Dweez will be in my home town soon, June 1st, with the Metropole Orchestra with Frank's music.

No I haven't bought tickets yet. No, I don't yet know if I will. His communication with fans and the Zappa Family Feud has left a real bad taste in my mouth. Not to mention Love Ride.

Then again, hearing a renowned orchestra play Frank's music...

Plook - 22-5-2025 at 21:01

Bonny put away all the stuff outside the music and go enjoy some of Franks music, I saw DZ last year he is more than competent at recreating his dads sound he puts the work in and is well rehearsed, I am sure the Orchestra will do their part...:forumsmiley109:

polydigm - 22-5-2025 at 22:21

I'd much rather hear Dweezil playing with the Metropole Orchestra than banging on about guitar technique. He's not one of my favourite people and I'm not particularly motivated to go to a guitar workshop. Although, a few years back, I went to a free saxophone workshop with a visiting bari sax player from some French Orchestra and he gave me some very useful tips.

BBP - 24-5-2025 at 20:06

Any class's success is so depending on its teacher huh.

At least the Dweez Or No Dweez matter has been settled on account of the show having sold out, so no ticket for me. I could still go to Adrian Belew playing Talking Heads.

Today a large flea market at the local ice rink, I wanted to visit it but there were also groceries to do. So I got up early, did the groceries, cycle home with 5kg of potatoes, plus meat and veg...

And then a large puncture. Shoot.

Walked he rest home and loaded everything into the fridge, start fixing the tire. There were 2 punctures across from each oter, which was very odd. I patched them both, had lunch, replaced the tire and on the safe side, went to the flea market using another bicycle.

Flea market was disappointing. Nothing of interest found.

I like a good flee market and yard sales, do they do yard sales or garage sales in your neck of the woods?

You probably became victim of a snakebite (as we call it in the trade): If you wonder what a snakebite puncture is! That usually happens when your tire hits hard against something and both edges of the rim cut into the inner tube.
As a mountaincyclist i always carry a set of tools in my backpack including a replacement tube cause i hate to push my bike back home from elsewhere. Strictly recommended

BBP - 2-6-2025 at 19:12

Yard and garage sales not so much, flea markets tons. Once May hits you can expect them weekly.

I didn't hit anything there, as it's a clean and smooth cyclepath (I don't really go off-road lugging a bag of potatoes) . That same bag would have made fixing the tire there and then a bit awkward. But yes, I have travelled with a bicycle repair kit in the past. Luckily most trajects I cycle on are walkable within an hour so not much is lost in such cases. Plus the Netherlands has a good bicycle repair network with plenty of cafes and such offering tools to cyclists in need.

My Whitsun plans were altered due to the massive train strikes out here. I had scheduled to go to BF on Friday, so on Saturday I could squeal uncontrollably at "my" seal Pearl, who was to be released on Sunday. But due to the train strikes, I wouldn't be able to make it even to work. I asked if a swap was possible, but no. I couldn't share car with fellow colleagues either. The seals suddenly looked to be out of reach - and then I got a laptop so I could work from home.

Of course my home office is no longer active, but my BF still has the home office option - so I went up North on Thursday, worked there on Friday, went to the unbearably cute seals on Saturday and made over 300 a-do-ra-ble photos that leave me in a puddle of squeals, spent Sunday here (became crowded due to nephew/nieces) and am still here - was due to go home, but tomorrow there are strikes again, so Iḿ here for two more days as I'm free on Wednesday.

My piccies will be ready when I get home, in the mean time you can fawn over the tiniest baby seal Myrthe and other gorgeous lovelies here:

Got home with 449 pictures of seals made in 7 hours time, or more than 1 per minute. And yes, I do squeal when I see them and yes, I already pummled my colleagues with them. :)

We just had Father’s Day here in the UK. Went down to London to spend Sunday with daughter, son in law and granddaughter.

Eddie RUKidding - 17-6-2025 at 23:23

https://www.timeout.com/australia/news/when-is-fathers-day-i...

polydigm - 18-6-2025 at 07:03

I obviously know that Father’s Day is in September in Oz. Out of the US, UK & OZ, historically, the US was first to celebrate Father’s Day and the UK later borrowed the date. Then down the track, Oz did its own thing. Mother’s Day in the Uk goes back to the 16th century and is based on a religious thing, where the date is calculated according to principles similar to those for Easter, so it’s quite variable.

Plook - 18-6-2025 at 18:38

I'm terribly sorry for all sane Americans...

Just got back from looking after my sister-in-law's cat for a few days. I've wanted a cat for more than 30 years and this gave me the confidence to get one even if I would lead a single life.

BF and I are still going strong though, we've known each other for 10 years now.

Eddie RUKidding - 27-6-2025 at 00:45

We had a bit of a storm here at Kingston SE for two days and now don't have a jetty anymore- no damage to my place ;)

https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/australia/king-tides-wild-win...

polydigm - 27-6-2025 at 06:06

Wow, three jetties got destroyed. Robe and Normanville as well. Must have been a hairy couple of days.

Eddie RUKidding - 27-6-2025 at 06:51

was wildest weather in 50 years they say - was very rough and Rosetown- part of Kingston is still flooded.

BBP - 27-6-2025 at 21:17

whoo that weather's intense! Shame about the jetties...

It's the week in which I have my demon, the dreaded emergency phone service. Basically it means I'm on call during closing time, or 24/7. I didn't get any calls at night this time but it messes with your brain.

Plook - 27-6-2025 at 21:58

Thank god climate change is fake or it could have been worse...:freak:

Eddie RUKidding - 28-6-2025 at 01:32

Hopefully Mar-a-Largo is next :D

BBP - 29-6-2025 at 10:14

Survived the emergency phone once again. For the next days it will be 35+ degrees C. Luckily Dad learnt a lesson from his heat stroke and he's going to keep a low profile.

BBP - 1-7-2025 at 22:08

37,6C in my neck of the woods today. Laying low!

Eddie RUKidding - 1-7-2025 at 23:27

Same as Nor Cal, you probably have no AC do you?

BBP - 2-7-2025 at 20:11

No here AC is always a gamble as they are expensive and especially expensive to run and will take power away from your other devices, plus it may not be needed for years to come. It's been two years since our last heatwave.

Then again Poly can tell how good Dad and I were when it was 39+ degrees when they came around last time. Dad suffered a heat stroke on the way home and my feet were all torn up and I had been dehydrated.

polydigm - 4-7-2025 at 05:31

Indeed!!

BBP - 4-7-2025 at 20:54

I'm in favour of installing "cool zones" during a heat wave so that there are places where people - be it students, workers, children, elderly - can lay low during the summer's heat and keep cool. Maybe in a church - they're typically cold and empty :D

Eddie RUKidding - 4-7-2025 at 23:12

If we did that downunder we would be in that Church for months at a time ;)

Plook - 8-7-2025 at 00:54

BBP - 10-7-2025 at 20:14

I'm really sorry to hear about the Texas flash flood, such a tragedy, especially to strike on July 4th...

My vacation will start tomorrow. I'm yet unsure if I go straight to BF after work or if I need to wait a day or two. Dad's sadly under the weather and I am not wanting to leave him behind.

Plans? Visiting BF and staying with him at sister-in-law's house to look after their cat. I love cats and am glad with the cuddle opportunity.

Plook - 12-7-2025 at 01:03

Sorry to hear about your Dad Bonny, hope you can enjoy your vacation, Kat started hers yesterday we went to the casino for our anniversary, that went well.

On a side note apparently Jeff Lynn is far more injured from the car accident than originally believed they canceled the show in Manchester last night as it was to begin, my sis had second row VIP Backstage access passes, she was bummed out.

They are reporting the Hyde Park show on Sunday is still a go, but the Manchester show was the biggy for them they went all in on the tickets.

Plook - 12-7-2025 at 22:04

OMG I guess Jeff Lynn was injured more than they said in the Cab accident in London now they canceled the Hyde Park gig on Sunday apparently he got an infection and his doctors said he cannot go on...

polydigm - 13-7-2025 at 18:50

Bonny, I hope Ed’s okay. We’re in Harwich right now, getting on the ferry to Hook of Holland later this evening. Are you still using WhatsApp?

polydigm - 14-7-2025 at 09:03

We’re on the road to Zappanale, where, by some twist of fate, not what I was planning for this year, I’ve ended up in the program. Go to zappanale.de and scroll down to the schedule and you’ll find Turbulator is playing at 1130 in the Stage Tent. I’m officially terrified, but very well organised.

Plook - 14-7-2025 at 18:21

Poly that is totally awesome we will need you to post your gig, have a great time!

Plook - 14-7-2025 at 18:21

Poly that is totally awesome we will need you to post your gig, have a great time!

polydigm - 14-7-2025 at 20:44

I am taking some recording equipment with the intent of capturing the whole thing.

BBP - 22-7-2025 at 20:58

Back from vacation: How was the gig Poly?

Dad had a nasty but harmless infection, hes OK and his regular gnarly self.
Vacation was heavy on sealy content - BF and I went to the seal rescue again and I made more incredibly cute photos. We got to see one grey seal - Moana, an agressive male - being taken out of the pool to be returned to the sea, which was quite exciting and looking dangerous.

The cat we got to look after was increasingly less friendly during the vacation - craving attention and trying to get it by being naughty. By the end of the week I called him Terror Lloyd.

BBP - 24-7-2025 at 21:17

High season has obviously started. It's becoming increasingly hard for us to keep pace with it to the point we all had to do some on-site cases.

BBP - 30-7-2025 at 20:18

Went on a day out to 's-Hertogenbosch with my boyfriend and with Polydigm and his wife! We went on a boat tour of the Binnendieze, had lunch, visited the cathedral and enjoyed a Bossche Bol.

Plook - 31-7-2025 at 16:45

Good deal any picture?

BBP - 31-7-2025 at 20:32

Unfortunately not that many and none of Poly :( two of the Bossche Bollen and four of the boat tour. Considering I made 370 photos at my last seal centre trip earlier this month and did a boat tour I had been wanting to do since the 2000s, that's kind of odd, but it was a great day.
