Since I can remember we have here the DVD Audio
and a very simple dvd player with only stereo sound.
I'm not so fnd of home theatre's because of our L shaped living and the furniture that fits wel enough in our former residence but here our L shape sofa is just the wrong L with the long end at the wrong side. So after all it is not an ideal situation surround.
A few day's ago I bought in the welfare dump a broken DVD player with all the exits for front, rear, bas and center speakers.
In the shop I checked the problem (Carriage is not coming out). I repaired that in a few seconds. Now I had a reasonably good player but no boxes. In some sort of an outlet I found myself boxes and complete systems. Only the boxes were priced 25 euros and the complete cinema set 35 euro's. Off course I bought the complete system. Where can you buy a player for 10 Euro's.
I installed the new equipment and the first DVD we tried was from ZAPPA (title in the subject) Sound on stereo but no sound on DTS surround.
From the internet I learned the ins and out about Dolby surround wich actually is 4-2-4 and the real surround DTS
So the new player was not capable to handle the dvd.
Yesterday evening I installed the repaired player and guess what.
It worked. I just wanted to try it, but I didn't take BBP into acoount. The whole dvd was played. Strange noises came from everywhere. I hope BBP will post here if she discovered some new in the four channel sound. The only thing she said to me me was : don't turn around thats weird.:P

Is that the most unspellable album title you've ever seen? :bald:

We should make a photo of the speakers on our bank. They're balancing everywhere, which is, apart frrom unaesthetical, highly annoying. I already bumped my head onto one of them. And I'm surprised the speakerbox survived that collision.

I am nearly good to go with my surround system, then I too can enjoy Quadio and Halloween in all their glory....

Make sure it's DTS 5.1 and not Dolby 5.1... I made a fool out of myself by mailing Barfko and asking them if my CD was faulty since it wouldn't play on my 5.1 system. Turned out it was Dolby...

Quad's problematic to listen to in full glory, since you can't move your head or your audio perception changes.

I'll never forget the face of my father on first hearing Lumpy Gravy... :)

I only listen to it on stereo.
Once I was able to hear it in surround but someone needed to sleep in the other room, so couldn't turn it up . . .
I remember though that wild love was a lot of fun and moving around the room you could hear lots of different things . . .

Neat! I didn't like the option very much as I found it very annoying to hear something totally different when you move your head.

let them tell it.
at http://www.flaminglips.com
you'll see a 'flaming lips Z to A ' tab. Click on that and click on Z, it'll take you to where you can learn about the parkinglot experiments. And click on the Boombox experiments for some further tales of taking the idea on the road.
Can't believe it's ten years old already.
