The World Mug

In an environment full of Europeans i can't believe there is no World Mug thread.

So it takes an australian from a part of the world where football means:

... to start the official thread!

Here are my thoughts so far:

1. Go Australia! Currently at the top of their group. They were extremely unlucky to have that goal by Japan counted, then extremely lucky to score 3 at the end. Play Brazil next on Monday. I say the result will be Brazil 2 - Australia 0.

2. I watched the first Netherlands match where Robben scored twice. He was on fire but then he refused to pass off near goal for the next hour.

3. Ecuador is really kicking ass. They seem to work extremely hard in the attacking half to keep possession and are really great to watch. So is Spain.

4. England is one of the most boring teams to watch along with Ukraine. God damn. Lampard wasted a couple of simple opportunities against Trinidad/Tobago and so did Crouchy. Thank god for Rooney, Bekham (as much as i hate to say so), J. Cole and Terry (who played an outstanding match against T/T). Joe Cole is really entertaining.

I must say I was positively suprised by Australia and Tjsechie.
The Dutch will come home after their match against Portugal in the next round. Australia can change European footbal(soccer) totally.
It's more robuust, I like that. England France and Brazil are minors in this cup. One thing is sure Australia has the best trainer in the world.

Def. Hiddink is the best! Kinda hope they'll go through to the next round...

Anyone see the offence of Kezman in Argentina vs Serbia/Montenegro (6-0)? I missed it, how bad was it?
Kezman used to play for PSV Eindhoven, in 4 seasons he became top scorer of the competition 3 times. In the European Championship in 2000 Kezman made his international debut, and was sent off after 40 seconds!

PS DED Tsjechië is called Czech Republic in English.

Yep. Guus is probably the most loved man in the world for us at the moment! Czech Republic were embarrassed by Ghana who were great.

Does Holland play Portugal next? I would say that that Portugal were lucky to win against Iran. They played very selfishly and Iran should have used nuclear weapons.

BBP: i watched Argentina vs. S/M. Kezman got red carded but it wasn't so bad. It was funny seeing Maradonna going absolutely nuts in the stands.

Zorn! Great! That beats any soccer game!
France is playing South Korea tonight, that should also be a great game...

Holland Portugal? If that happens, Holland is out. The Dutch team tied Portugal once and lost to Portugal once during the qualification matches for WC 2002.

Anyone seen Italy vs States? I was watching a film on the other channel, but I did see the goals and red cards. That own goal was beautiful!

No sarcasm intended, just what I would have said if I'd been in your position.

I hope that Zorn show was great.

It didn't surprise me at all, actually. We stopped playing after scoring the first goal.

Only started watching from when South Korea scored. I was sitting outside and could hear the neighbor's TV.

Spain certainly didn't look so dazzling against Tunisia. Argentina are certainly the best performing team going into the next round.

And Harry Kewell was spared a suspension after going off at the ref after the Brazil game. Thank goodness. He was really angry. Australia was fouled 25 times to Brazil 9 times. And then the ref. blew the final whistle more than a minute too early... in the words of Napoleon Dynamite "IDIOT!".

I was really proud of how Aus played against Brazil. It was a pretty even match except Aus wasted opportunities. Guus really went for it in the second half.

Yeah, Guus is brilliant... Shame he won't be coaching PSV next year. He's going to Russia.
Sweden will be playing England tonight... should be pretty good!

Yes man, it was a great show. Both pieces rocked, but Moonchild was the killer. Outstanding, but the show was on the short side. However, this enabled us to hit a bar afterwards and catch the tail end of France screwing up yet again against S. Korea!

South Korea did hit the semifinals 4 years ago...

Say how's Michael Owen? I saw him groaning on the ground before the first minute was over, poor fella.

The perfect time for Theo Walcott to come on was when Owen went off injured. A potential "Roy Of The Rovers" moment for him, but Sven put on Crouch and Gerrard instead, and he was lucky neither got carded, or we wouldve truly been fucked.
I think we will be ok, with Lennon and Walcott there, they can scare the shit out of teams. Ok, they are relatively untried, but they are THERE, so USE THEM. We all could be pleasantly surprised.
I see us going out in the Quarters, or possibly Semis. Cant really see England beating truly massive opposition.
