Zappa Radio is playing two hours of selections from the rhino set right now
and if you haven't heard any or all, you may get to hear some zappa music you've never heard before!
try it, you might like it!

http://www.zappa.com/zapparadio/index.html

you will need a music streaming compatible device for your computer

right now!
zappa radio is playing the beat the boots
My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama, from 08jul69 at the Ark
aka the music part before Baked Bean Boogie from YCDTOSA 5 . . .
(:

now it's the fantastic Oh No from South Bend, Indiana 12may74 at the University of Notre Dame to a crowd of sorority and fraternity kids on this one, with the echo-y effect on the guitar that is so amazing with that gorgeous middle melody that takes this version to the skies . . .

scallop!
it's on like the sign says,
10-12 am PST, Thursday and
1-3 am PST, Friday
every week

PST is Pacific Standard Time which is California's time zone;
not sure what time that is your time.
Maybe 6 hours earlier . . .
Are you 9 hours earlier than New York, then you are 6 hours earlier than Cali

next week eh?

Yep next week for sure! *secretly doubts it*

How far ahead or behind is PST from GMT? We are GMT+10 in eastern Australia. Wait, don't get up. I'll just find out myself! Ok...well first of all apparently GMT is now called Coordinated Universal Time, or UCT. PST is UCT - 8, so we here in Melbourne are PST + 18! We are 18 hours ahead of you!

So that means if you have it at 0100 hrs on Friday, we get it 1900 hrs on Friday, which was last night. On Thursdays it would be 1000 plus 1800 is 2800, which is 0400 on Friday...4am Friday.

I think I'll go for the Friday night one.

silly goose!
18 hours ahead, 6 hours behind, what's the difference?
(:

Even the poor sound quality of many of the beat the boot cd's, the zappa radio broadcast of the pieces from the worst sounding cd's sound
WAY BETTER on there. Original tapes (?) or whatever, there are many VERY DIFFERENT arrangements of many songs that pop up

It took me years to get into many of them and I don't listen to many of them now, but
Wish I had clearer copies of
Freaks & Motherf!?*%!ers
Any Way The Wind blows

There are so many favorite versions of songs that are only found on the BTB sets, it would take too long to list them!!!!

Please tell me you're joking. The difference is 24 hours.

oh! of course polyd! this might be important!
I always read others' times by their relation to GMT, or as scallop calls it, UCT. And I know I am 6 hours away unless we're in Daylight Savings (hope you guys don't have to deal with that) when we are five hours away.
Now I also am aware of the Int'l dateline, the point at which shifts day depending on which side you're on, when calculating these things, not actually in the sky :)

So somewhere I assumed that one's calculation in converting times would work by the shortest distance, like I did above, making Eastern Australia six hours ahead of GMT, which it is because of the direction the earth turns.
Now LA is eight hours behind GMT as I am six hours behind. Then I counted ten more hours between LA and Melbourne on the little Nat'l Geo map I have. What I didn't take into account is the Int'l dateline when doing this I think!

I'm also realising that when it's 9:48 pm here, it is 9:48 am, the next day where you are . . .

Yes, well, that is the important difference, that it is a measure of time and not distance. If we tuned in to the show 6 hours before the allotted time, we would be a day early. California is -18 hours away going West, but when you cross the International Dateline going East you have to subtract 24 hours from your clock, so yes you are +6 hours away going east but +6 - 24 = -18, so it doesn't matter which way you calculate it you get the same result.

This is how you fly from Sydney to Los Angeles and get there before you left. Of course, you eventually have to return and pay for it with some serious jet lag.

never knew I had to add or subtract a whole day depending on which direction you cross the line.
I learned something! Cut me some slack!
I guess you might figure these things out more often than me . . .

my favorite song on the BTB's is a live version of Valarie from The Ark, in 1969
