Sorry, not very disturbed at all, it's actually quite obvious, it's a picture of a wind ensemble, not a marching band.

I'll say again I don't think I'm any good at this game . . .
But how is it 'obvious' that

would readily associate the noun 'wind'? I wasn't gonna say this but the string (and probably percussionist's back there in the back) made me reject the idea at all. I don't think it's obvious at all, I think it's pretty obtuse or, at least, highly subjective.
Poly, lemme guess. Are you a high school band teacher? That would make a lot more sense.
But whatever, just somebody's opinion.

Good one, scallopino/BC! I couldn't get past the big yellow ball.

I can't see a viola in the picture. The only string instrument I can see is double bass. I know double basses are common in brass bands, military bands and concert bands, and their players usually have receding hairlines and/or beards. And they aren't just there as an extra; lots of composers of band music wrote for double bass (some I know are Holst and Vaughn Williams).

So I have to agree with Poly on this one Punk. This doesn't discount the fact that he may be disturbed though. ;)

ok, so it's a double bass. I still don't see how these elements make it obvious that we were supposed to construe w-i-n-d out of all those possibilities. It's like having a multitude of variables for an equation, but only one value will ever work. And that's what you're trying to guess with the multitude of variables.
Kudos to you scallop and my inability to see a real connection in no way diminishes the value of your ability to make it. I just don't see it.

I should go back to Byzantine art

Okay Punky, go to images.google.com and type in "wind ensemble" and see how many wind ensembles you can find that have only wind instruments. They also commonly have brass instruments, but generally they're only called brass bands if they have only brass instruments and no wind instruments. It's pretty much in common usage to call an orchestra without a string section a wind ensemble.

Anyway, I thought part of the aim here was to create some kind of a challenge. I personally prefer trying to guess ones that aren't immediately obvious and the fact of the matter is that in that picture of an ensemble, even if it wasn't called a wind ensemble, there are several wind instruments.

This is really bugging you out isn't it? I think context makes a difference as well. I can't remember what my thought process was but I didn't get 'Wind' out of the second picture straight away...I didn't even get 'Teenage' from the first picture either. It is indeed like finding solutions to an equation. I didn't find either solution by itself; it was only after looking backwards and forwards at the two pictures that both solutions appeared simultaneously. And 'Teenage Wind' is the only set of solutions that fits the equation (Zappa title, two words, not any of the other guesses).

And looking back, 'Wind' seems to me to fit the second picture exactly. The same if it was 'Brass' for a brass ensemble. Another thing that makes the noun 'wind' fit the picture is that 'wind' and 'brass' are common nouns to describe collections of woodwind or brass players (at least in Australia, and i guess everywhere else).

I think it's very interesting to question why some people agree on certain associations and some don't. There's a lot of reasons why and they usually aren't mentioned.
