Yes I just finished it actually! I loved it, was never really into the whole fantasy crap before, but was made to watch the movie....Which, I enjoyed, but shouldnt have seen before reading the books......The books are far better than the movie(s), However I did find the final book a little tedious towards the end though....

Yeah... it's a great book... shame all that commercialism of jigsaws and jewellery put me off at first. I'm reading it in English, and I have reached a point where it's gotten tough to understand, so my progress in the book is right now best described as sluggish.

It does tend to do that, whether you are English or not, it veers off on tangents quite alot....

Yes... I've just had the Isengard war, which is where I lost the road. Luckily Pippin has summorized his meeting with the Ents now (I really dig the Ents!), so I get it again.

You do have to be careful! Its annoying when someone you know is reading something youve already read, cos its hard not to discuss it with them, the slightest bit of info can ruin the book for them

Yes! I had that when I finally got my sister to read Crime and Punishment. There was something weird about it that I wanted to discuss, and by the time she had finished it I forgot what it was.
Used to be my 2nd favourite book, but has disappeared from my top 3 after LOTR and "The Idiot" by Dostoyevski.

I read American Psycho, after I've seen the film. Nice, but really sick. Especially that bit with the cheese....

yeah, its great.....Fortunately, I read the book before seeing the movie, and Im glad I did, cos I thought the film was a bit of a let down....I think the book is brilliantly written.

Indeed, though I did find it hard to get in to AP, bit of a shame.

Don't know John Fowles or Magus though, what's that book like?

Very good, I think youd like it....A little hard for me to outline the plot, but if you see it somehwere cheap or in your library, pick it up.....Know what you mean re AP, its written so intensely that it is difficult at times, especially the chapters entirely dedicated to what he was wearing that night, or his record collection! Guess thats the point though...

I'll get after Magus... thanks!
I'm very fond of the Dutch author Bordewijk. He's got a great sense of humour, gives all his characters weird names, uses very odd words...
