I've just started on Silmarillion. It reads like Virgil, Ovid or Homer. It's very nice though...

OK, so for St Nick, I got a huge stack of books: among them a collection of short short stories by Dave Eggers.
Anyone know him?

I'm planning to cast Silmarillion to the side. I read 4 pages yesterday, which took me ONE HOUR.:( I now feel stupid.

Now Sil's getting me real tired... just started on Eggers. Should've finished that by tomorrow, it's very, very thin.

Finished Eggers last night, thank goodness. Though I share his political ideas, his attempts at humour bug me.

Just seen the Two Towers movie.
Does the story of that really stick close to the book Goj? Because in that case, I didn't read the book properly. And where is Shelob?

Not too closely, as the movie has to miss loads out or else it would be way too long!Thats why the books are better because they are alot more detailed...

THanks for the head-up... there were points in the book where I lost the plot, and the movie ditto...

I watched The Return Of The King last night.......Even though its the movie of the third book, alot of stuff happens in this thats in the book of The Two Towers, if that makes sense......A nocel little scene in TROTK, when Gollum sets Samwise up to have eaten the Elven bread, isnt even in the book, but is a great little nuance to the plot........the trick is to enjoy the books and the movies as seperate entities....God only knows how the real LOTR nerds dissect each scene on their boards.......

Or how some folks I know play LOTR RPG, wear LOTR jewellery... I even encountered a lady named Eowyn.

Either way I made loads of progress in Sil in the past three days, I'm even beginning to understand what it's all about and I'm even enjoying myself a bit. Luckily I now understand the hostility between Elves and Dwarfs.

I talked to guy about The Silmarillion, a real LOTR nut....he recommends it....Apparently it gives one a real insight into the whole LOTR / Tolkien world, but even he said it was very heavy duty....

Currently reading Weaveworld, by Clive Barker.....Its ok, though it may be getting a little too "fantasy" for my liking.....Bring on the horror element....

I've read this book years ago, can't remember much of it other than the story is about some sort of magic carpet, but I remember liking it.

Not a big fan of most fantasy literature in general, I'm afraid. I read the LOTR trilogy in high school, but I'm not really inclined to go back and read it again.
