Zappa sidemen albums
What are some good albums by Zappa alumni / sidemen? I don't have many, but I like the Mike Keneally albums I've heard.
Also picked up a couple of George Duke lps for cheap, but frankly.. I didn't really like any of them. I also have a Flo and Eddie lp called 'Illegal,
Immoral and Fattening', that one is fun if you like F+E.
Hey kids! Do you hear that sound? . . . Freaks will be coming from miles around!

I've got a Terry Bozzio compilation album on the Magna Carta label, it's called Prime Cuts. It's fantastic!
I also have three Steve Vai-albums, all have their stronger and weaker points, three Dweezil albums of which only Automatic is on my playlist.

Forgot about a couple of other albums: Terry Bozzio and Eddie Jobson also played with British progrockers UK in the 70s. Good musicianship, a bit
pompous though... I also have a couple of Jean-Luc Ponty records, quality varies. I like the 'King Kong' album with FZ compositions and a couple of
other albums he did in the early to mid 70s.
I also like Adrian Belews playing with King Crimson, but I haven't checked out his solo stuff yet. I also like Little Feat with Lowell George a lot.
I also own an album by Angel (with Punky Meadows), picked it up at a flea market because of the (tenuous) FZ connection, but that one must be one of
the worst albums in my collection.

Just found it, it's called Jean-Luc Ponty live. Zavod plays keyboard on it. Picked it up for e 2 at a second-hand store.

which is awful too!!! The Vinnie Colauita solo album is excellent though, and worth getting!!!Not a fan of Dweezils stuff either Im afraid!!!

I agree that Ponty's 'King Kong' is essential
'Imaginary Voyage' is my favourite of his 70's stuff
You have to get the early George Duke stuff...I've got "I Love the Blues, She Heard Me Cry" ,,that's good
I think the other good one is called "Feel" with Frank on a couple of tracks
I've got a vinyl album I bought on eBay called 'The Jean-luc Ponty Experience with the George Duke Trio'
I think this originally was paired with 'King Kong' for a double album called 'Canteloupe Island' (there's a track of that name on this album)
I've got a Don 'Sugar Cane' Harris album 'Fiddler on the Rock'...it's good bluesy stuff with Harvey Mandel and Larry Taylor (Canned Heat) on bass

JLP has re-released King Kong, except that now you get it in a double cd set with another of his albums......Along with the Shankar album, worth
getting.....

Yeah, Gojira...I'll look out for that Shankar album
Are his other albums any good?
I've got a fair bit of Ponty, but if there's any extra
tracks from those early sessions I'd go for it..

Havent heard anything else by Shankar mate, apart from that record and the songs he appears on in the FZ catalogue ( Strat Vindaloo on EIHN being one
of the best - Zappas last ever recorded guitar solo - so far anyway! )

I just checked...the album paired with 'King Kong' is called 'Electric Connection'
It's one he did with George Duke in '69
I haven't got it, but it's available seperately, so I won't have to buy King Kong again

All Zappa heads need to play some Captain Beefheart (Lick My Decals Off Baby, Trout Mask Replica) on occasion
