You know I was initially offended at Motherly Love. I feel better now.
My best-loved track is Return of the Son of Monster Magnet. Is the band Monster Magnet named after that track?

No, I like Monster Magnet...
Just wondered, browsed the Internet and couldn't find exclusion, but I did hear a different explanation.

I think James meant "Why did Motherly Love offend you?" rather than "Did it offend you that Monster Magnet nicked an FZ songtitle for their name?".

OK Isis, thanks... I never liked any song that drools over mothers saying how good they are. I grew up without mother, and as a result I consider
their part in education overestimated, whereas the father-part is underestimated.

This was one of the first FZ albums I heard and I didn't really like it at first, except for a couple of tracks like 'Who are the Brain Police?'.
Nowadays I enjoy this album a lot more, but I still think that the music on the next couple of albums like 'Absolutely Free' or 'We're Only In It For
The Money' is much more interesting and advanced. IMO the music really improved when FZ hired more skilled players like Don Preston or Ian Underwood.
Hey kids! Do you hear that sound? . . . Freaks will be coming from miles around!

I understand but I gotta say, I doubt they're gonna say about how great dads are when they're called 'The Mothers'.

Actually, 'Motherly Love' is my favourite track on the album
Not only is it funny, but it really rocks for a 1966 track
Also, the production on 'Brain Police' is amazing for that era
Ahead of his time....heh

Favourite track? Dunno, "Youre Probably Wondering Why Im Here" is up there for me....And never mind Merzbow and all these noise / concrete' artists
around nowadays, Zappa was doing it in 1966....

"Go Cry On Somebody Else's Shoulder". I love Frank's doo-wop. I love how the songs gradually get more and more "un-commercial".

I loved them notes to that tune.
"4. GO CRY ON SOMEBODY ELSE'S SHOULDER... (3:39) is very greasy. You should not listen to it. You should wear it on your hair."

Freak out is probably regarded extreamly well due to how groundbreaking in rock music terms it was for the time, it's ok to my ears, but Absolutely
free seems to take a turn to higher musical ambitions.

I remember being in an indie record store in either '97 or '98 (I would've been 26 or 27 at this point), seeing a used Freak Out! CD and listening to
it on one of the store's CD players (the very first time I ever listened to an FZ album). I never made it past "Hungry Freaks Daddy" before I turned
it off.
A short time later, I was back at the record store and tried listening to FO again. Once again, I didn't make it past "Hungry Freaks Daddy" before I
turned it off.
GREAT album.

I'm sick of Hungry Freaks Daddy because they won't change the current set of four songs on the Zappa myspace. They've had the same ones for about a
year and a half.
Freak Out is such a stunning debut I reckon. Plus I love the production on it, though I remember Bonny doesn't agree with me about that.

Why do so many people have issues with Hungry Freaks, Daddy? It's a bright and snappy number! (Shit! It's unsettling that even the lyrics are
once again beginning to sound eerily contemporary!!!
