One Size Fits All

Over-Nite Sensation meets Apostrophe (') and Roxy & Elsewhere in a crack den, and then some. This is one of my favourite Zappa albums ever. I've seen it dismissed as mundane, but it's a special album. Intricate, fun, thought provoking and exceedingly well executed by one of Zappa's greatest bands. Not a weak track in sight.

Favourite songs:

Inca Roads (replete with my favourite Zappa solo)
Can't Afford No Shoes
Po-Jama People
San B'erdino
Andy

Your thoughts on this exemplary collection of Zappa compositions?

I only recently discovered it. The sound of Can't Afford No Shoes at the beginning, especially the phrase "News? What news?" proved too much for my head. Just a month or two ago, I started listening to this album. I love it now, Andy is one of my favorite Zappa-tracks.

Its wierd because when I discovered this it was an instant classic, got into it straight away....Strange how some albums click instantly with some people and not with others....Sheik is another example, wasnt too into it at first yet others cream over it from the get go....

I loved Sheik from the first go... and Thing-Fish, which some people can't get used to.

I like One Size Fits All a whole lot, I don't think there are any weak tracks on that one. The singing never really bothered me.

I'm not a big fan of the Sheik, to be honest. It's a decent album, but it wouldn't make my FZ top 10. Never understood why 'Bobby Brown' is one of FZ's most popular tunes, sounds like something he wrote on a (black) napkin in 5 minutes.

Hey kids! Do you hear that sound? . . . Freaks will be coming from miles around!

I mean, its funny and all, but there are definitely better songs on SY.....Its the novelty of Bobby Brown and the "shocking" lyrics that make it notorious...

I'm rarely too shocked by Zappa's lyrics, more amused or bewildered. A lot of times I can't even make out the words.

I know what you mean, but you know what these outsiders are like, they cant even believe someone would even contemplate lyrics such as BBGD....I know what you mena though, to us they become nothing shocking.....

Or understandable... I often don't get slang. Once someone called me a stoner and I didn't know how to react.

I think the most offensive tunes in the FZ catalogue are probably "The Illinois Enema Bandit", "Suicide Chump" and "Magdalena". Not that they personally offend me, but some might consider it to be in poor taste to make fun of rape victims or suicide cases.

Interestingly enough, none of these tunes made the 'Have I Offended Someone?' compilation.

I agree on Illinois. Chump offensive? Nah. Magdalena may be shocking, but not offensive. The only Zappa-tune that really upset me lyrically was Motherly Love.

But, to those who arent familiar with the subject matter, you could say that You Are What You Is is offensive, due to the use of the word nigger.....If you look at it, there are alot of Zappas songs that could offend, for example Ben Watson in Negative Dialectics gets really upset about Jumbo Go Away.....

Ben Watson gets all upset because it depicts women getting hit....( in the song by Denny Walley )....As I remember, its brought up towards the end in his interview with Frank.....
