new here

Hi all,

I'm BBP's sister, and I thought I'd better join up to this forum given the threats my sister uttered with regards to joining. She'd never speak to me again... Finally, I can ask her to pass the salt... :bouncy:

No, she's kidding... It was either this or installing MSN, and I preferred an extra forum member.

PS Zaz, als je je nog steeds ergert aan het zwart/oranje, ga dan naar de optiepagina, dan kun je zelf je kleurenschema kiezen.

Hallo Zazkia!

Dit is vertaald van Engels aan het Nederlands door een Internet vertaler, zodat ben ik droevig als het geen steek houdt.

Mijn naam is Kammossel. Het is niet mijn echte naam. Dank voor het toetreden. Kunt u vleet bevriezen?

Zie u rond,

Kammossel. ;-)

Say, what is that for brabbeltaaltje? Think nevertheless also once of the international visitors...
Just once ?
Brabbeltaaltje means jabber or gibberisch, unknown to worldlingo .com
and also once is a direct translation resulting in misunderstanding
It can be freely translated in "just for a change".

Ah but thanks Mr.comb-mussel, for this crypto english it is really amusing in Dutch to hear someone say that he hopes to see you 'round, that is truly brabbeltaaltje.
Some things I really do not get, what did you try to say in the second part of the salt sentence? Retranslated it says: "In case the Nice became not round to the." ?!?!?!
And the other was "Kunt u vleet bevriezen" I really don't know what vleet means in Dutch... Although there is this proverb, bij de vleet or "a lot" that -apparently- literally means "by the herring net:
"Can you freeze a herring net?" :puzzled: I guess I can't... I have no freezer. And no herring net now I come to think of it. :freak:

You really make me learn things in my spare time... :-P

:P

If i remember correctly, what i said was:

"Here is some salt for you, in case Bonny hasn't got around to it yet."

For some reason it translated Bonny to Nice! I noticed it didn't leave as Bonny, but thought it would be funny when you tried to understand it.

And I think "Kunt u vleet bevriezen", besides the first word being quite funny in english, was the translation for "Do you/Can you ice skate?" or something like that.

;-)

Ah but 'kunt'alas only means can (in the polite tense, even) It never crossed my mind before that Dutch is pretty akward for English speakers.

Oh now I'm pondering about it, that DID cross my mind. Bonny gave me a book of lousy English by Dutch, for my anniversary...
Some Dutch Foreign Minister, who felt himself an eloquent Englishman, explained his hobby to his English colleague:
DFM: "I fok horses" (sounds pretty much like, well you know...) whereas he meant "Ik fok paarden" i.e. "I breed horses"
EFM: "Pardon?!?"
DFM: "Yes, paarden!" (yes, horses)

And no, I can't skate... None of us can.
:crying: We're from the south of the Netherlands and there is no large watery place here... Only a very expensive ice skate hall, but it's really embarrassing to fall right there... And the greenhouse effect causes warm winters here. And of course BBP and DED have flat feet...:bouncing: So they couldn't teach me...:crying:

It's always very embarrassing when a member of the government of your country does this kind of thing. We had that type of prime minister not long ago here, who managed to pronounce something as stupid as: " Win ze yes needs ze no, to win again ze no"
or: "Being able to vanquish yourself in victory, it's being a vanquisher twice",
or: "The young are destined to become adults".
I tell you, when you hear that kind of thing, it makes you feel really ashamed.

By the way, breed also means: to have sex, if I remember well, so even if it had been translated correctly, it would have had a double meaning.
