today we got what you will get sunday, batty, minus the rain. Nice and warm, low 50's F/low 10's C. But the temp will drop tonight and a mother of a
storm is supposed to settle on us here in Kansas. Cold, snow, wind, more ice, brrrrrr.
I just went out in my barefeet and it is still warm . . .
the thing I like about cathedrals and such is that they are REALLY OLD. Which I understand can make them seem very creepy. Makes sense to me.

It's those long windows I tell you! Gothic buildings have those long pointy
windows... I think that's it anyway...
Ooh... storm in Kansas... sounds like you're in for a trip to Oz....

| Now, if you can find a REALLY OLD cathedral in Kansas it's the only place to
be in the event of a tornado -- if it "really old" then it's been around awhile and that's a hint it'll be around a lot longer.

I was wrong bytheway: there is at least one church that doesn't look creepy. Instead, it makes me feel hungry!
In the category "Learned something new today": the Red Square is not named after something Sovietty, but after this St Basil's Cathedral instead. The
Russian word for red (krasnaya) also means beautiful, and this was the nickname for the St Basil's Cathedral.

I love the bit on the Simpsons when a hurricane passes through Springfield and then the church billboard says: "God welcomes His victims".
It's a good thing cathedrals are storm proof because you wouldn't want to get hit by a flying steeple.

Actually, not always. Most large famous cathedrals in N/W Europe (France, Netherlands, Belgium) were built in the Middle Ages, without very little
architectural knowledge. Many people have passed away while these buildings were built and collapsed time after time after time. It's how gothic style
was invented, where those hideous spider legs are used to build larger structures with the infamous long pointy windows.
The finest example I can come up with is the Dom in Utrecht. The Dom has the tallest church tower in The Netherlands, and this tower is the face of
the city. It's everywhere.
In the 1500-1600s, this cathedral stretched a distance of 95 metres.
But now, there is a 50 m large gap between the tower and the rest of the church. 50m of church inbetween, over half of the structure, collapsed during
a fierce tornado in 1674. Many churches in the area collapsed.
The Dom was never rebuilt.
For pictures and explanation, ckick http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cathedral_of_Saint_Martin%2C_Utrecht.
For nice pictures (and a truly lengthy tale), try the Dutch version.

Haven't yet found a suitable pic, but I GOT MY FIRST PUBLICATION! My letter to Donald Duck was chosen to be the Mail Of The Week and will appear in
the Donald Duck magazine, with photo! And I've won a T-shirt with it!
