Well, for one thing, ''Cruisin''' has been a youth-culture pastime for fifty years here. When enough wealth was had in an industrial society that had built enough internal combustion carriages, in this case, to give the teenager in love something to do . . .
'Route '66' is an extension of that. Jack Kerouac 'On The Road', even Nabokov's Lolita . . . Jan & Dean, The Beach Boys. The race on the cliff in 'Rebel Without a Cause'?
Yeah. To do something stupid and see what chance encounters bring.

this reminded me when I saw it of the same character in a Terry Gilliam movie. Can you name the movie? In reality it stands in the same church as Bonny's 'Brown Moses' in the other thread.

No and I haven't seen that in such a long time, I don't remember if the gr makes an appearance in the Meaning of Life, tho it would make sense (btw Terry Jones directed it).
I was thinking of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. I love that one so much, I should go purchase it. But I have such a loathing for the accumulation of stuff : :regan:I hate being bourgeois.

I love the Meaning of LIfe so much. Apparently John Cleese really hates it. I don't know why. The Gilliam short film at the start is a masterpiece as well.

If you look real closely at the face of the reaper, it looks like Stephen Hawking.

(For the sake of people with weak stomachs and/or hate for Reformated christians or this specific person, I'll post a link to the image, not the image itself.)

He looks like a Dutch version of our hard-working but dull Prime Minister, also a committed Christian:

Weird huh? They could nearly swap hair colours and nobody would notice. Your guy looks a lot creepier though.

Now we know where the Grannies got the inspiration for their logo:
