you should listen to them first, cause I'm not a Rush fan, so I answered from memory, maybe you should wait until Gojira speaks, he surely knows more about them than I.

How much do they sell them at you shop ? Cause you can have them new for 5€ at amazon France (+ shipping= 2,5€).

http://www.amazon.fr/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000001ESL/qid=1148724232/sr=...

I think I'm gonna buy some of them too, soon. So if you buy one, tell me what you think of it, please.

I am a big fan of Rush, I particularly like their cheesy 80s stuf, but thats not to everyones tastes......I would recommend these though...

EXIT STAGE LEFT
....Ok, its a live album, but a GREAT live album, and features some of their best work from their late 70s albums. full of energy and great playing.

MOVING PICTURES
....Before they went totally Synth, this is a great album, one of their best studio albums IMO.

2112
...I think this is a little overrated, but its a classic nonetheless.

The bottom line is, soak up the recommendations and make your own choice! You cant really go wrong with anything pre 1982 IMO.....albums to avoid though are Test For Echo, Caress Of Steel and their first self titled album ( because Neil Peart isnt on it! )....they are good in their own right, but they are maybe ones to pick up at a later date, should you want to....
Personal faves, seeing as Im here, are Counterparts, Presto, Hold Your Fire, Fly By Night and Power Windows

Im planning a Rush special, maybe on July 1st, so that might give you an insight into some of their other records.....

SORRY FOR THE LONG WINDED REPLY!!!!

They are all great musicians, but seeing them live was akin to watching a DVD. They are almost too clinical and precise, and the crowd just sat there tapping their feet. If you were in the first few rows, it would be fine, but from where I was, it kinda sucked. An enjoyable show, dont get me wrong, but give me an all standing venue with more atmosphere anyday....

Anyone know that South Park Movie soundtrack? Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee, along with Terrance and Philip, performed a hilarious rendition of the Canadian national anthem there.

PS Aqua: Rush CDs sell for anything between 9 and 29 euros, vinyl is usually cheaper.

I love that soundtrack!
I also love the Chef Aid album: Primus, Ozzy, Ween, Rancid, Joe Strummer, Cartman doing a Styx cover... :rsvd:

Got Moving Pictures today and got to listen to the first 3 tracks... YYZ is COOOOOL!
Not too sure about Geddy's singing voice, but hey, it took time before I got used to Les Claypool, so...

Yeah, Lee's voice is a bit whining. I listened to a few songs the other day, didn't them too much, I don't know, I'll have to give it another listen.

You know that guy from Violent Femmes? He's horrible.

Just discovered Primus opens their first album, Suck on This, with a rendition of YYZ. Frizzle Fry opens with a sample of that recording

I noticed that too, having just got Frizzle again...Sounds like them possibly doing it live rather than a sample though? I dunno tho...

They did it live on Suck on This. Suck On This opens in exactly the same way, that's the joke. So that long-time fans who bought SOT in 1989, listened to it, then got Frizzle Fry, would think "Hey, it's the same record!"
YYZ on SOT lasts longer than that. Up to but not including the cool little melodious lines, there the song transforms into John the Fisherman.

Geddy Lee's singing is an acquired taste for sure, took me a while to get used to it as well. I like that live album "Exit Stage Left" a lot too, good selection of some of their best tunes. "Hemispheres" is another nice record.

Pavement once wrote a hilarious tune that features the lyrics "What about the voice of Geddy Lee, how did it get so high? I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy...".

Hey kids! Do you hear that sound? . . . Freaks will be coming from miles around!

:puzzled: I've had SOT for years and I didn't even know that, I thought it was the way they started John the fisherman live but they didn't record it that way on Frizzle fry.
