Yeah... I miss the old regulars Gojira (Pappawas1975) and Puptent (Studebaker) though, used to have real lengthy chats with Goj... and of course the late Studebaker_hoch...

Funny thing, it looks like there are many more people on that forum now then 5 years ago. Has FZ' music touch more people or is it just that internet access has allowed more idiots to join forums????

I would say people just find the forums. Some of them leave though, like me. I would love to know who popular FZ's music is in terms of album sales and such.

Not very as far as new consumers are concerned me thinks. Sales figures are impossible to find and are a close kept secret. The ZFT want's it that way! Alltough Fz has worldwide Rockstar status for just about anyone over 40 yrs old, and a much bigger following in Europe than in the US, he remains, for most people, just a name. They've heard of him but could not identify any of his albums xcept maybe Joe's Garage. But not many would buy an album, new or otherwise.
BBP is an exception to the rule of course, as she is still young AND pretty...I guess it's because she's smart too.

I hear you Badchild... First of all remember I only post flattering photos.
Secondly, HERE I managed to squeeze in a little Zappa reference. Leading to the comment of a member awkwardly named Z:...

I feel that the amount of Internet users has grown massively over the past three, four years. While back when I started to study musicology the WWW could barely deliver any source, nowadays Internet is a heavily used feature. Some teachers even use it to spread college texts. While 6 years ago a youngster could get around without the Web, there's no way you could go to school without it now.
And with that grow the amount of people hanging around on the Web. And with THAT another evolution happens. While computers were just for geeks a long time, and the early internet users were pretty much a class of their own. You couldn't run a message board the way they were run a couple of years ago. Would be full of Zombie remarks.

Pappawas1975 is still a regular at zappa.com. Why did he stop coming here?

You should have corrected the moderator who thinks FZ' real surname is Francesco!

You're right about internet use today. I actually liked the Alt-Fan Frank Zappa thing better than the forum. There were real extraterrestial fans in there. Like Buffy the Elephant Shrew and Bossk.

I did correct him! Or maybe her.

Pappa has a son (which, as you may recall, is called Frank). That eats his time. He's promised to pop in occasionally.

I understand that newsgroup is still around... at least a friend showed a Zappa fan news group to me about two years ago.

Totally. Internet users are now all kinds of people. My grandfather is a fierce critic of television and he despised computers and the internet when it came about. He always said: "You'll never get me sitting in front of one of those things." Now he has two computers and uses the newest one all the time and spends a large amount of his life sending and receiving emails.

Cute story about your grandfather!

We recently got my grandmother a new PC, with XP. She doesn't surf though, she plays Lingo and Solitaire.

She has some already! But then you have to shuffle them and lay them out, which is a drag.

Unless he was sneakily referring to my telephone fear (which I didn't think I informed you about) I don't understand it either. And if he WAS referring to that peculiar personality trait:

DAMN! I missed!

What kind of a telephone fear is it? Is it a Woody Allen thing? "I-I-I think it has something to do with the shape of the receever."
