Joe's Domage
Ok, seeing as the Albums sections cupboard is a little bare, Ill start one...Domage anyone? Shit, when I first heard this was coming out I got all
excited expecting unreleased stuff from the Wazoo era....Of course I was wrong. After getting over the initial shock, I started to really dig this.
Ok, the sound quality isnt that great ( but good on headphones ), and it is "just" a rehearsal, but an incredible document nonetheless.....Its great
hearing Frank direct the band, ( another highlight is them organising the next rehearsal at the end...dunno why, it just has a certain charm ), and
how the musicians work through the pieces. I guess thats why the ZFT chose to put this out, simply because NO ONE would have heard it before, no
matter how many boots some guy has, they wouldnt have this....An important document IMO, but only for the total FZ fanatic, dont introduce someone to
Zappa using this!!...Your thoughts?

Id recommend it if youre a total Zappa nut, got everything else etc, cos then it becomes something else,if you know what I mean? Along with Corsage,
definitely worth adding to your Zappa section...

When I caught wind of this release, I was struck by one question; 'Why has it taken so long?' Why had Gail Zappa spent so much time procrastinating,
when a quality album of demo material was a mere gobbet away?
Upon hearing this release, I was struck by another question; 'Why?'
Joe's Domage may 'offer stunning insight into the mechanics of Zappa's music', and may appeal to certain hardcore fans. I consider myself a hardcore
fan, however, and this release left a thoroughly bitter taste in my mouth. Shame, really.

Oh well... ever heard a CD remaster from Deutsche Grammophon? That's how any of their music sounds: much too soft alternated by much too loud.

I think the ZFT should have released Joe's Domage either in conjunction with Wazoo or after it. It makes a lot more sense when placed in its proper
context.
I ordered it from 818-PUMPKIN the day it was released, and since I live in California I was one of the first to receive it. I opened it expecting a
live recording of the Grand Wazoo (since Auntie Gail hadn't really said what it was), and I was absolutely horrified by what I heard. So I went and
found the "Worst Album" thread on the Zappa Forum, and spilled the beans on what Joe's Domage really is.
Gail read my post, and within fifteen minutes she made a pretty snotty reply to it.
The next time I called 818-PUMPKIN, the guy answered with "Pumpkin: are you calling to return Joe's Domage?"
Let's just say I felt vindicated...

Hahaha. Great story. Has your opinion changed since then? I haven't heard it but Pappa makes a pretty good case for it in the opening post.

I agree with Mr '75.
When Domage came out, I loved the flash intro to the zappasite when Domage was new.
It starts with the downbeat for the rhsl of The Grand Wazoo, that is in the middle of one of the tracks on Domage.
I made a copy of Grand Wazoo and Waka and gave it to a music fan friend, who in turn really like dit and after a year I gave a copy of Domage and the
Farther O'blivion from Imaginary Diseases adn he loved those even more he said because it gave a before and after of the studio copies.
So now that Wazoo is out, he got his own copy.
