My Dad

My Dad once had a ticket to see Zappa at Newcastle, but the week before that guy threw him off of the stage during an encore and Frank broke his leg, paralysed his arm, fractured his skull and some other bad stuff. Therefore didn't play Newcastle! My Dad was gutted...

He was devastated, still is. I keep gettin' down when I realise I can never see FZ in concert but actually having a ticket and being denied? Shit...

I saw Frank and the Mothers perform at the Mosque in Richmond Virginia right after the Concert Incident in which Frank was injured. There were dead, plucked chickens hanging on the mike stands. When Frank's back hurt he just laid down on the stage and played horizontal. The rest of the band was Ruth Underwood, Murphy Brock, Luc Ponty, two drummers, others and assorted craziness.

It was the crowning moment of my concert attendance and I saw a lot of damn good bands

Stu, that's a really good story. I just noticed Frank's announcement on the liner notes to One Size FIts All where he declares himself ready to go back on the road. How long after the incident was it that you saw him?

I'm not sure exactly, lost a lot of brain cells that decade. I believe the concert was summer of 1974.

If it were 1975 it wouldn't be beyond that.

It wasn't earlier

Sorry to butt in ....but...FZ was assaulted/broke-leg before he ever met NMB in Hawaii.Just for some clarification.I always thought it was just after The Mothers Live at the Fillmore East '71 was released.Even on Mark Volmans site he sez that FZ let them go,as he couldn't afford to keep them and with his back out he had to stop touring for a year.(and the band broke up) So thats '71 not later. He did do some shows sitting with his leg in a cast and such,to fufill some contractual obligations.I believe those were back east.So all I'm saying is that NMB couldn't have been there. All the rest sounds right, like it was one of those last couple a shows he had to do.

Oh no! Is this the nice guy who's not of the flesh anymore? Stu? I don't remember if he was still on Zappa.com when I came aboard, but I wanna say he was.Oops.RIP Zappabro'.
I'm gonna post this anyway.I liked his posts and he did seem like a nice guy.We need some more like that in this kinda town!

I have no idea how old this post is.....

On the topic of quoting old posts:

Not quite as devastated as Frank was at the time ... I would venture to guess ...
