We were playing "punk" jazz very similar to what primus does except we had a shitty singer and then the new guy who was OK decided he wanted to play
rockabilly shit like Smelvis Parsley so I quit. I'll have to get some up on my server. we did some pretty cool stuff some times.

awww fuck. I'll make a page. this was some cool stuff here. kind of an "out jazz" goes to the mosh pit thingy. I call it Jazz riot because that is
basically what I did. I forced them to play this and they went along with it.

Very cool. The bass player has some 'Les' moments.

That's a poor DVD anyway; the music is OK, but the video is poorly directed; most of it is dark, and all filming is done from quite a distance.

I was at that show on the DVD! It was so much fun! I think that may have been Primus. I've seen Les a lot since then, but no Primus.
I also didn't notice anyone mention Oysterhead. This is my favorite of Claypool's side projects. I finally saw them in 2006 at bonnaroo!

Yea I told Bonny the story of how I almost joined Primus except I have never had a drivers license and was about two years too young to join the band
anyway but Les got my name from the drum guy at the music store. He had heard about me and wanted to talk. we chatted for a while but being that I
was only a teenager and didn't drive pretty much did me in for that. the funny thing is they used to play at all the same clubs I did a few years
later in SF and I had never once seen them. Strange how our paths never crossed again but then when I heard the name later in the 90's and heard
Les's voice I remembered that band I almost joined from El Sobrante, CA which was two towns over from mine. I think the area they were from made me
not really want to join though.
Damn if only I would have hooked up with them at the night break when Brain left the band and I could have died of alcohol poisoning or some other
party related misshap. |
WHAT!? You ought to call him up and tell you can drive now! Then maybe you can jam!

I thought Oysterhead was cool, unlike many of the people at the Primus messageboard (which I regularly visited until one of the moderatorswas posting
death threats to me). Les's songs are a lot better than Trey's songs though. And I feel their styles are too different to merge.

Les's side project. Describes her music as "a cross between Yoko Ono and Hello Kitty", which regretfully is accurate. May have been nice if she kept
her mouth shut.

Did you see Electric Apricot? She totally plays a "Yoko " character in that. But, I agree, I'm sick of her. The first time I saw her was in 04 when
she opened for Col Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains and I thought she was interesting. Then she became part of the "Fancy Band" and they tried to
use her instead of a guitar player, that was annoying. And the last time I saw them he didn't even have Mike Dillon or Skerit, just Gabby!!

Stuff like Electric Apricot is not really widely on sale or up for viewing around here.
For some strange reason I'm not much interested in Les's work nowadays. Don't know how long it'll take for him to find out that his solo albums all
suck.

Well, they aren't Primus, but they don't all suck. I love the Live Frog Brigade cds and both Sausage and Holy Mackerel.
Primus is definitely the best and I can't wait to see them again. How many times have you seen Primus? I've seen them 7 times!

I was only lucky once. That was July 1st, 1998, with Brain as drummer. It was the first concert where I paid to get in, all the rest was freebie or
dragalong. That was one of their final concerts on their last tour of Europe. Although they scheduled an Antipop tour, they never came back.
I have Sausage and Holy Mackerel. Sausage is nice, but Mackerel gets annoying by the end of pretty much every song. They all last too long, which
coincidently also my issue with Of Whales And Woe. Frog Brigade is something I only found in store at roughly 30 dollars, so I never bought that. It
got very bad reviews at the Primus community, which was surprisingly unanimous at many best-and-worst-album and best-and-worst-song discussions.
