Just got Les Claypool's Of Whales And Woe.
You know in pretty much every case (yes, even Dweezil on Them or Us) I hate it when musicians bring in their kids to let 'em do some stuff. On this
album, there's a song called "Back off turkey" that has Les's tykes playing percussion and marimba (Cage has just turned 9, Lena will turn 8 this
August). Sounds very annoying. Also, the kids did the album illustrations. Well, suppose love blinds...
Listened to the first 8 tracks now... It's a bit Highball, some songs are great but last too long, others are plain noise...
On the plus side, Gabby Lala is not singing on it. Also Skerik's sax is cool!

I like it! Lots of Primus fans don't though. There's:
XTC's Scissor Man, which I love,
Peter Gabriel's Family and the Fishing Net which I don't like much,
Silly Putty which is funny and funky,
Amos Moses, Les's first record,
Police's Behind My Camel which is good,
Too Many Puppies remake which is kinda funny,
Metallica's The Thing That Should Not Be which I think is nice,
and 2 live tracks of Tommy the Cat and Bob's Party Time Lounge.
Tommy has a kick-ass drum solo, also a touch of The Awakening by the Reddings. Bob's Party Time Lounge has a very nice sound to it as well.
There's an enhanced version you can buy. It should work on most computers (enhanced CD of Tales from the Punchbowl doesn't work on most PCs). On it
is, among others, the video of The Devil Went Down To Georgia by Festus Clamrod and the El Sobrante Twangers (Les, Ler, Brain and 2 violinists).
Brilliant little claymation.
If you can get it at a good price (I bought my copy in France, in Aix-en-Provence at a CD fair for 89 Franks, which is decent) you may wanna go for
it.

You shouldn't ask that kind of question bb, you wouldn't if you knew me well. We'll see that later.
Just PM me your complete address so that the CD may go directly to you without having to pass between my hands.

Referring to that Geddy Lee grating vocals thread elsewhere on here, I am currently listening to Frizzle Fry, and gotta say that Claypools vocals are
very annoying at the moment!
I think it may be too early in the morning.....

On Frizzle Fry song? Yeah it's pretty off-key! But to be honest, I think it's more funny than annoying. Besides, if you think that's off-key, turn to
Tommy the Cat on Suck On This.
Personally I prefer Les's old vocals above his trained and studio-edited voice on Punchbowl and beyond.
PS Aqua you've got mail!

That's nasty... I know they're horrible, but it somehow suits the music. Too Many Puppies on Videoplasty sucks, there Les is somewhat trying to sing
opera-style or something.
It's like listening to Symphony & Metallica where James Hetfield is using his I-took-singing-class voice to perform Master of Puppets or Enter
Sandman. That's so wrong.

I agree with that, though sometimes out of tune and grating, Les's vocals suit the music giving it a Tom&Jerry tinge, I think. I wouldn't expect
any other type of voice with this music, which is not the case with Rush.

His voice IS the sea of cheese to me, if you see what I mean. His voice makes me think about molten "Gruyere".

Ha! He reminds me of Larry Laffer; probably because I was playing Leisure Suit Larry 7 when I first heard his voice... Actually on clips where you
hear him speak, he sounds quite normal...
