Or me. Just as well though. Whilst pottering around in between re-tries at zappa.com I found out Jeff Beck is on with Buddy Guy at Birmingham NIA (UK, not Alabama!) in July and I've managed to get 2nd row tickets! I woulda posted the info on zappa.com but couldn't so I've just signed up here hoping that everyone else was here too! Hi!

By the way - I'm listening to Jeff Beck - Who Else

(I can't seem to get the pic to display - I'll get the hang of it next time!)

Puptent - 24-3-2006 at 16:42

Hi floss. Cool, I've never seen Jeff Beck live, hope he tours the Netherlands as well.

Better play some records and drink a couple of beers.

Hi 2U2! I like your avatar - never went much for Les - I prefer Edna! For some reason she's slightly less creepy! HAHA!

According to your profile here you were 6 a few days ago. I hope you had a spiffy party with jelly and ice-cream and a goody bag to take home! :D

I heard some bad things about disky records quality (mostly by BBP) but the 2x2 cd (6 euro's 4 cds wow how how how ) "reggae classics" is really rather good. Lots of classics that I never had the money to buy.
NP is is the first song of the 2x2 cd "blues classics" John Lee Hooker, Boom Boom.... "
oh and right now its already Jimmy Reed...
pretty cool!!!!!!! still to come and I'm already enjoying it: Leadbelly, Brownie MCGhee/Sonny Terry, Lightnin' Slim ....:drooling:

Didn't Zappa buy blues records as a first musical experience or so?

Jackie McLean - Jacknife

Jackie Mac passed away yesterday at age 73. He was one of my favorites on the alto sax, played with Miles and Mingus and recorded tons of good stuff on Blue Note as a leader.

He played on their last album.....I heard a couple tracks online, have to admit I wasnt totally blown away. Having said that, Vinnie is always on fire, and he sounded good, but in "metal" mode, so was hardly spinning freely, as on SUNPYG for example.
Megadeth lost it for me after So Far, So Good...So What, so if you liked their later albums you might like the VC album too no doubt ( forget what its called ).....

scallopino - 24-5-2006 at 10:38

You know what sucks? The guys in Megadeth can say: "Yeah, i've done session work with Colaiuta..."

aquagoat - 24-5-2006 at 12:42

Countdown is the last Megadeth record I bought, I alredy thought it didn't sound as crazy as So far... and Rust in peace.

BBP - 24-5-2006 at 15:54

aquagoat - 24-5-2006 at 18:58

What a great record. I hadn't listened to it for what... 10 years. Actually I only listened to it once at that time cause it was on a cassette a friend of mine had lent me with Lark's tongue and another Crimson album I don't remember the title of.

Gojira or anyone else here, do you know a King Crimson record that sounds very modern, almost industrial ala Ministry or NIN ? I think this record was released in the 70's, but that's all the clues I can give you. If one of you could help me...

Pappawas1975 - 25-5-2006 at 09:59

It could be The Construktion Of Light?....That was a 90s record though, and it wasnt too hot IMO. Cant think of a 70s album in that vein though, sorry....
Larks Tongues is amazing though....My favourite KC album, always goes down well....

aquagoat - 25-5-2006 at 18:56

Hmmm, perhaps my memories are distorted, I don't know, I should have stollen that cassette  Anyway, thanks Gojira.

Just for your listening pleasure.

Not a long time ago I took my old Dio CDs and gave them a listen and woooww, Holy diver, Last in line, Sacred heart, Dream evil, what great albums, I hadn't listened to them for years and had forgotten how good they were, especially Holy diver, though I preferred Last in line when I was younger.

The good thing with Death angel is that each album is different while staying typically death angel style. Too bad the made only three records at that time. Have you heard their new album ?

[Edited on 28-5-2006 by aquabot]

Pappawas1975 - 28-5-2006 at 11:25

No, keep meaning to pick it up though....Any good? Same line up?
That box set thing seemed a little pointless to me also, consisting of songs from the first two albums and a few extra thingies thrown in for good measure, but would like to hear their last record. they played in London last year sometime and was tempted, but chose not to go in the end....

Re Dio, yeah, all those albums rule, but I never liked Dream Evil though. It never quite reached the heights of the other three IMO. Shitty production too...
Apparently his later work ( "Magica" or something ) is worth getting too. And he has just put out Holy Diver Live, which judging by the reviews is a great album....
Always loved Heaven And Hell too, but Im a little tired of the Ozzy vs Dio in Sabbath debate!

I can heartily recommend most Frost albums, apart from Cold Lake and Vanity/Nemesis. Into The Pandemonium is absolutely essential. One of the most ground breaking and best metal albums ever, and it has definitely stood the test of time.
