Thats not a bad album actually BB...I like all their 80s albums.....Strange one to start with though, lemme know whatcha think. I can recommend all KC albums really, but Larks Tongues In Aspic, Starless And Bible Black and Red are top of the heap IMO.....

My favourite track has to be the Barbershop quartet... I didn't really like the first few dancy sing-alongable tracks, and the last few tracks were too much for me as well... Aren't they supposed to be the missing link between Zappa and Primus?

Hope it gets better with listening more and more to it...

It will grow on you BB, just like their other 80s records, at first I thought " What is this all about?", but I got there in the end. Then again, I am a drummer, and Bill Bruford is on them, so it maybe was easier to dig quicker....!!!!

I agree with Gojira, this album will grow on you but not as much as Red or Lars tongue, there's always that kind of 80's pop tinge that's a bit boring. Does Discipline sound the same ? I've always wanted to buy it but never dared to cause of the period during which it was released.

2 Naxos CD's (a well-known budget series of classical music, with reasonable quality):
Akio Yashiro: Piano Concerto + Symphony
Hiroshi Ohguri: Violin concerto, Fantasy on Osaka folk tunes, Legend for Orchestra, Rhapsody on Osaka Nursery Rhymes.

For what it's worth, I like Discipline a lot better. It does have the same '80s production qualities' (you know, lots of that gated reverb 'Phil Collins' snare sound), but the tunes are a lot less poppier and more challenging.

Hey kids! Do you hear that sound? . . . Freaks will be coming from miles around!

Hey BBP, if you're interested in improving your bass skills, I'v got scores of KC's "Three of a perfect pair". The bass part is not very difficult but the guitar parts are, its good for you hand dexterity. Give me a sign if you're interested. I've also got scores for "Vrooom", if any KC fan wants to have a look at it.:-)

I spent a lot of time practicing the crosspicking patterns in "Fracture" (from the Starless and Bible Black album), that stuff is pretty tough as well, but a great workout for your right hand.

Yes, if you practice it seriously you can only progress. I usually use the beginning of "Three of..." as a warm up exercise. It's good for your right hand precision and left hand dexterity.
